I had pre-ordered the DVD in August and the family watched it on Christmas Eve. We had seen it at the theaters twice---a first since Star Wars in 1977. Making of the movie was fascinating, and looked very expensive. The Kitty Mannock scene would have kept it more like the book. The explanations for changes from the book were reasonable, especially with the extreme expense and sandstorms. It was most enjoyable this time, although the opening scene was best at the theater. A home theater system would do it justice, but we're totally on solar power in the mountains of Colorado, and those systems suck the power. The DVD is my favorite in my collection. Big Mike.
