Figuring this was the last weekend it would be in regular circulation, I went to see it one more time. IT had been moved to a smaller room in the megaplex, but surprise, surprise it was almost full.

Well, you know how it is. Gotta make room for that other "must see movie"

#11 at week 6 ain't that bad. I'll bet xXx2 won't be looking that good at week 6.

With France and Germany in line, Sahara should easily make over 10million between the two, if not more. With the DVD releases, Sahara should make over 25 million worldwide. That would put the total near 130 million. Maybe there will be a sequel after all!!! pirate.gif

Marketing and the wages of all the hundreds of crew members on the movie and the cost of location shooting and the logistical expenses and the technology involved pushed the movies budget that high. That is why movies are expected to make the big bucks in their first weekend is ridiculous because of all the expenses involved in these big budget "Event" movies. There is a need to stop this madness.

Sahara is still holding strong at #12 daily! This is great news. Just behind "Hitchhiker's Guide"! My bet is that if Sahara was re-released it would gross much more. "The Italian Job" started to become strong again during it's wanning weeks at the box office and it was re-released.

Tuesday's Numbers = $38,641 (roughly $40,000 behind Hitchhiker's Guide, which was released THREE weeks after Sahara. Sahara is also only on 387 theaters and Hitchhiker's Guide is on 801.)

Domestic: $66,503,819 69.3%
+ Overseas: $29,400,000 30.7% (Updated)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

= Worldwide: $95,903,819

Oh and by the way. Sahara opened in France today and opens in Germany tomorrow.

Phil--

Thanks for the interesting news.

What seemed really strange to me was that Sahara was dropped from my local 21-theater megaplex on the Friday of the Memorial Day weekend. But they kept showing The Amityville Horror that weekend.

The weekend before, Sahara made $803,664 while Horror made $702,477. Horror had dropped from #11 on Thursday, May 19, to #13 by May 26. Sahara had gone from #12 on the 19th to #11 on the 26th.

Does anyone have a clue as to why they would drop a higher rated movie making more money for one not doing as well? That weekend Sahara went from 1,074 theaters to 387, so my local theater was not the only one that dropped it.

I just noticed that Sahara broke the $100,000,000 mark...

Domestic $67,447,882 66.3%
Overseas $34,300,000 33.7%

Total $101,747,882

It sure would be nice if it met the $130,000,000 production cost.

That's just theaters. But I did read (can't remember where) that DVD sales can be three times that earned at theaters.

But as others have said--in terms of seeing a second Pitt movie--the money earned really doesn't matter. It's what happens in court that will decide that. All we can do is hope for the best.
