How long does it take you to read whole book?

This thread may be a little depressing for me but it seems I am a very slow read. My wife and her dad can knock out a book in a few days and it takes me about two months.

Now the cool thing is about being a slow reader is that I remember A LOT more than they do and I share the adventure with a lot of others thus hooking them. It is a lot of fun to engage others in the adventure I am reading.

So I guess I am happy I am a slow reader but I wish I could read more books quicker....can't have my cake and eat it too I guess!

Don't worry I'm a slow reader too! I remember everything I read and never read a book twice. I blew through the first 5 Cussler books in a week and almost burned myself out so I've slowed down the pace quite a bit. I've had days where I've read for 15 hours straight, long car trips and such so I can read some books in a day but those would be the only 2 reasons why.

I'm a pretty slow reader too, I think, but have the problem of not remembering every detail either. So I guess that would be the "worst" of both worlds. However, since I don't remember everything, I can re-read the book again and relive the adventure. I also don't blow through a book the day or week I get it and end up with that "oh man, now I have to wait two years before the next one comes out" feeling.

Pros and cons to everything, I suppose.

Well I started Treasure Of Kahn yesterday and finished it today. Of course I wasn't able to sleep much because our sheepdog hasn't been feeling well and I've been getting up every couple of hours to let her out. Believe me when I say there isn't much of anything worse than a long haired dog with diarrhea. YUCK!!!

I can usually read abook in 10 to 12 hrs. spread over 2 days. I retain probably 85 to 90% of what I read but, still enjoy re-reading a few months later.
I've re-read some of the earlier CC books 5 or 6 times since 1973. I guess I'm leting the truth out about my age.

I'm a slow reader when it comes to long books, especially non-fiction. With fiction I can pace myself so as not to read too fast but not take forever either. Then again, since I have two sources of income (not counting my wife's), housework, plus watching quite a bit of tv and spending time on the computer, it's quite a jampacked day for me with little sleep.

I'm a fast reader, main reason I believe is because I'm to impatient . I want to know what happens and if I stop reading an exciting book in the middle, then I can't concentrate properly afterward because I want to know what happens next. After I've finished it once then I can go back an reread it some time later to pick up the details I might have forgotten.

I am a reasonably fast reader I think, though it depends on the book. Fiction books I read in bed before sleep and usually take a week or two to get through, non-fiction books I like to read at the breakfast table and it could take up to a month to get through. On the other hand a book by an author I really like, like CC, will only take me a day or so. I got Treasure of Khan for Christmas, plan to start it tomorrow and should have it finished by the end of the weekend.
A couple of years ago I started a book diary, writing down the name & author of each book I read, what I thought of it and importantly where I got it from. A quick look back over 2006 shows I forgot to update it for a couple months during April and May but so far I have read 29 books this year, with Treasure of Khan still to come.

if I have time to read then about 2-3 days but if it's during the semester can take up to 3 weeks... if at all. It also depends on the author/language that is used, medievial languaged books take up to a week when I have time to read modern language books take way less

ToK took me 8 hours to read approximately. I read about a page per minute.

Hmmm...well I guess it kinda depends on the book. For example, if it has anything to do with school, then I will take as long as I possibly can.
If it's a Dirk Pitt book, I'd say.......4 days tops.
Hehe...but i'f it happens to be a new Harry Potter book, well, I start reading those suckers the moment I get home from the midnight release parties and don't stop till i'm done...which is usually around 6 o'clock the next night. Yeah, it's a good thing those books come out only every 3 years.

Depends what else I have on my plate at the time. I sometimes have a few books on the go because I haven't had time to finish one off and am not in the mood to knock it over. If I get into a ripping good story like a CC and have the time to sit down and take it all in rather than grabbing lunchbreaks etc, I think I can knock over a good sized book in a week.

Usually reading a magazine as well so depends on my reading mood!
