Anyone read/collect the Aubrey/Maturin books? I read the first - Master And Commander - a couple of years ago and thoroughly enjoyed it despite at first wondering how I would handle the 'period' language. Excellent stuff indeed.
I've got six or seven of the 20 and, fortunately, the next few books I need to read the series in sequence. Was watching the surprisingly enjoyable movie The Jane Austen Book Club the other day and, at the end of the film, they're wondering whether the O'Brian series should be their next project. Made me think I really should get back to reading them. |

There is a Patrick O'Brian book that was made into a movie, Master and Commander. Saw it on TV not that long ago.

And a good movie it was too, Tony. However, it was an amalgamation of several books and had nothing to do with the book of the same name.

Despite having the complete collection, I've only read one which was The Golden Ocean and that prompted me to get the lot. I'll read them all in order when I get the chance ... maybe in retirement.

LOL, know the feeling, Tony. I'm building up the motivation to read Post Captain. I know it will be good but for some reason I've been holding off as I'm under the impression it doesn't have as much 'sailing action'. LOL, golly that's sad.
