A friend of mine and I have wondered whether the new Isaac Bell (and Dirk Pitt as well) books are shorter than Pitt books from the late 1980s/early 1990s. Any idea if there is a marked difference in word count between e.g. Cyclops and Crescent Dawn? Do note that I and the fellow I mentioned have read the books as Finnish translations (well, I have read Vixen 03, the best Pitt book of all time I'd say, in English as well).
In general I'd really love that the new Bell and Pitt would be as long as e.g. Wilbur Smith's Monsoon or Tom Clancy's Executive Orders. One more thing, I'd hope that Justin Scott takes over Pitt books as well. IMHO Cussler jr. is not quite up to the task. |

Oh no!!! Never read Cussler`s books in any translations, and NEVER in Finish!! Sorry...I live in Finland and I have tried to read books ( any books, even Harry Potter ) in Finish translation, and it takes the whole sense out of the thing.
I have also tried to read Cussler in German translation cause I am German, and I was thinking: Oh no, what a trash! Translations don`t work with that kind of stuff, this i have noticed, and ever since I read only originals |

Terve vaan! I have to disagree. If well translated, Cussler does not lose anything in translation*. I read also Dark Watch in English, and frankly the experience was not too overwhelming. It felt like a child had just learned the phrase "double tapping" and felt atavistic joy every time he wrote it down...
Besides, that was not my original question... *Are you fluent in Finnish? |

Depends what you mean by fluent
I am working in a hospital since 5 years, so I have to speak, all right, but I also make mistakes about grammars, and sometimes, when I am tired, my tonge gets knotted I am not sure if the bokks get shorter, but I think the Fargo- books are shorter than older Pitt- books.... Where do you live? |

I meant a more "reading fluency" that is definitely easier to learn than speaking. You mentioned being German and as German is mostly quite a phonetic language it should help in learning Finnish.
I live in Kuopio and Rautavaara. |

There are 149,892 words in Cyclops. No idea on Crescent Dawn.
