Sorry to tell you Nick but the band fired me...apparently I was too good at the job and the van was too clean for their tastes. I'm now working for Sheena Easton |

Sorry to hear that, Heep !!! Are you now "Mostly Easton" ? Last time I saw her she was playing Sonny Crockett's girlfriend on MIAMI VICE. I guess you're good company for stars on their way down. When you see me drive by in a 1936 C28 Avions Voisin built by D Tessier in Tours, France, be sure to wave.....I'll even stop and pose for a pic to sent to ol' Clive. That is, if he still has his eyesight...... |

I doubt there are any newcomers to this site and, more specifically, this thread about that fine, still underrated film based on the works of Clive Cussler entitled SAHARA. But, nonetheless, I thought on the outside chance that someone discovers that fine film and, gulp, becomes more interested in the works of ol' Clive, I will enlighten them on just how much care was taken to really highlight the work of Cussler, who, unfortunately, proved too blind to see past his own ego.
In the opening scene of the movie, the camera sweeps across a series of newspaper clippings showcasing Dirk Pitt's accomplishments. If you watch closely you'll see two articles of note. One is an article about the raising of the Titanic. This is in reference to the Clive Cussler novel Raise the Titanic where Dirk Pitt brings the ship up (it was written several years before the real Titanic was found to be shattered beyond reach on the bottom of the ocean). The second article is about the discovery of the Oiseau Blanc. This plane was of French origin and was attempting to be the first plane to make a non-stop Paris to New York flight just weeks before Charles A. Lindbergh's successful journey. The plane left France and was never seen again, but several people in northern Maine claimed to have heard an airplane above the cloud cover at about the right time. Interestingly, in Cussler's "Sea Hunters II", he describes how he and his real-life NUMA team of volunteers went searching for the Oiseau Blanc in the forests of Maine, but were unable to find it. He suggests that it likely went down in a large bog. Now that's just one of many things in SAHARA that still make it a more then worthy primer for the works of Cussler. If you just discovered Cussler and he is your newest cup of tea, then watch this film. It's pure Cussler all the way despite what Clive, and naysayers, erroneously think.... |

Hi Nick, I'm a newcomer. Been reading CC books for the past year or so, ever since I got hooked on them. Matter of fact I'm just starting to read "Sahara". Typical Cussler, a book called Sahara and opens in the American Civil War.
Looks like it's gonna be another fine read. I see some of you discussing this "Sahara" movie. Never heard of it, I'm in Canada, where can I find this movie? I'll probably wait till I'm finished the book before I watch it, so I don't spoil my book reading. |

Wolfman, when you found the movie and watched it, you will find out that it has nothing much to do with the book....but anyway, its not a bad one, for my opinion. Everybody has to judge for himself ;-)
Anyway, welcome and have fun here |
