Title: Temporary Smash Thread
Description: Spoiler Free Zone

MFD - January 29, 2008 07:48 PM (GMT)
Discuss the latest happenings at the Dojo, as well as press releases or interviews, here.

Do not discuss actual game footage. I know the game has been leaked. Keep it in the other thread. You lot can manage that at the very least, right?

ETA: This is temporary because I'll merge it with the other thread when the game hits America.

Grandmaster Jogurt - January 29, 2008 07:54 PM (GMT)
So there's actually stuff in here...

Man, they even consider the 1-1 and 1-2 versions of the Mushroomy Kingdom different stages when it comes to music, but they don't let us choose which one we're going to play? It's another Samus/ZSSamus-style nonchoice! user posted image

EliteAgent - January 29, 2008 07:56 PM (GMT)
well, they'll probably be a workaround for Zamus the same way theres a workaround for Shiek. As for the music, I don't see the problem, unless you wanted the underground theme on 1-1 or some such.

MFD - January 29, 2008 07:57 PM (GMT)
Personally, I hope there's some button code.

Also, Gritzy Desert? Time to fire up PiT to hear that theme.

One thing my brother has been complaining about is that there are very few music choices that really sound like battle music. The Ocarina medley is nice, but it just doesn't get my heart pumping. Hopefully some of these other music choices do, so I can turn down the chance of the non-battly music appearing.

Also, I see a distinct lack of the DK Rap.

EDIT: GJ was talking about choosing between 1-1 and 1-2, not choosing 1-2 music for 1-1.

I mean, I'd like to be able to choose which one. If they're considered separate stages even by the developers, it just seems mean to not let us choose.

A lot of Melee music wasn't martial in tone, either, but it works once you're in the game beating people with your fists.

EliteAgent - January 29, 2008 08:01 PM (GMT)
I see, I really doubt there won't be a way to pick one, though.

And since more tracks can be unlocked, I expect classics, like the DK rap to be in the game. Quite frankly though, once I get DeDeDe's track, I won't care about anything else

MFD - January 29, 2008 08:05 PM (GMT)
Maybe, GJ. Love Theme, Lylat Cruise, and Norfair Theme are the only ones off the top of my head that sound martial. And Love Theme is just barely.

Alan Bates - January 29, 2008 09:37 PM (GMT)
I'd really prefer the chance to choose between World 1-1 or world 1-2.

Also, I wonder how they're going to do the scroll. Will it just start back over again at the end of where the level ends or what?

Grandmaster Jogurt - January 29, 2008 10:08 PM (GMT)
Everyone into the pipe!

Algasir - January 29, 2008 10:11 PM (GMT)
...I read that as "pie".

Alan Bates - January 29, 2008 10:15 PM (GMT)
Also, I wonder if World 1-2 is going to have the warp zones at the end.

Red Silvers - January 29, 2008 11:43 PM (GMT)
Minus World! Minus World!

MFD - January 30, 2008 03:01 AM (GMT)
Reposting this from the spoilers thread:

Hey, if you subscribe to this podcast using your iTunes, you can download the Angel Island remix. It's spectacular.

Grandmaster Jogurt - January 30, 2008 07:27 AM (GMT)
Aw, man. They removed seeing who you were in Random? That should at least be an option, for when you feel like playing, say, "someone I haven't played yet", or "someone fast", or "someone starting with the letter M", or anything.

Also, at least most of the items and starting stages are confirmed now. I'm hoping there are more Melee stages, because a full half of them are ones I'm not going to touch. I mean, Brinstar Depths? Really?

[/rant]

EDIT: Whoa, whoa, whoa. What's that stage to the right of Poké Stadium and below Orpheon?

And that item to the right of the Bob-omb had better be a proxy mine of some kind.

MFD - January 30, 2008 01:47 PM (GMT)
I can't tell from the site what the stage even looks like.

EliteAgent - January 30, 2008 03:01 PM (GMT)
the stage to the right of the Stadium looks like an F-Zero stage, below Orpehon is Wario-ware i think

The stage to the right of Poké Stadium is the same one as below Orpheon. You're thinking of the Halberd :P

I may have my lefts and rights confused, but the Halberd is on the same line as Stadium and Orpheon. Castle Seige, Warioware, Distant Planet, Smashville and New Pork City are on the line below.

Grandmaster Jogurt - January 30, 2008 07:42 PM (GMT)
What I'm seeing is:

Battlefield, Final Destination(?), Delfino Plaza, Mushroomy Kingdom

Mario Circuit, DK Falls, Eldin Bridge, Norfair, Orpheon

Yoshi's Island, Halberd, Lylat Cruise, Poké Stadium, (?)F-Zero(?)

Castle Siege, Wario Ware, Distant Planet, Smashville, New Pork City

The Summit, Skyworld, Pictochat, Shadow Moses

Grandmaster Jogurt - January 31, 2008 07:06 AM (GMT)
So, secret characters, stages, secrets... hopefully not much about SSE.

Dark Hawk - January 31, 2008 07:14 AM (GMT)
Face it peeps.

There's no way to escape the Spoilers now. :P

Cran - January 31, 2008 07:17 AM (GMT)
Except...y'know...ignoring select updates or the Dojo entirely? :P

Immolation - January 31, 2008 07:18 AM (GMT)
If you do that, the thread will probably stagnate from lack of discussion and die.

Notty - January 31, 2008 07:28 AM (GMT)
I thought the whole reason that this thread was created was to discuss Dojo updates without having to worry about spoilers.

Anyway...

The new video is nice. Basically condenses everything we learned from the Dojo since it started updating all those months ago.

If it's not yet on the Dojo, keep it out of here.

Cran - January 31, 2008 07:32 AM (GMT)
I can't get the video to load...

Grandmaster Jogurt - January 31, 2008 07:34 AM (GMT)
I got it to load once, accidentally closed it, then had to retry over a dozen times...

Notty - January 31, 2008 07:43 AM (GMT)
I know GJ is avoiding the other thread, so I'll post this bit of information that I know she'll want to hear.

It's not SSE spoilers or anything else, just something I know she was irritated about.

Zero Suit Samus can be selected from the character selection screen. On the WiiMote, it's the minus button. Z on Nunchuk + WiiMote.

So, no. You *do not* have to play as Samus to access Zero Suit Samus.

Grandmaster Jogurt - January 31, 2008 07:45 AM (GMT)
Hahaha, wow. That is a lot of smiling I'm doing.

Notty - January 31, 2008 07:48 AM (GMT)
Amusingly, if you choose to start as ZS Samus, there will still be pieces of her armor that you can throw as the match begins.

EDIT: Holding R is the ZS Samus command for Gamecube and presumably Classic controllers.

Grandmaster Jogurt - February 1, 2008 07:08 AM (GMT)
Holy shit. I think the Dojo just exploded.

Edit: Huh. A new Tips section. Cool.

Dark Hawk - February 1, 2008 07:23 AM (GMT)
DH is sad because the infomation on the Unlocking of everyone's favorite Blue Blur is not up.

mordain - February 1, 2008 08:39 AM (GMT)
If Sonic is an unlockable and not a starting character, why was he revealed before they started revealing 'secrets', as such?

I'm slightly confused...

Also, the big popup "ARE YOU SURE? SPOILER ALERT! SPOILER ALERT!" window made me laugh.

Knight - February 1, 2008 08:56 AM (GMT)
Yeah. Pretty darn sure that anything revealed before today was starting, and not unlockable.

EliteAgent - February 1, 2008 12:20 PM (GMT)
Sonic was revealed early to soften the first delay announcing. He is unlockable, as is Snake.

mordain - February 1, 2008 12:27 PM (GMT)
Yeah, I know, which is why I mentioned it was weird.

I guess that third-parties were just an exception to the spoilers rule (despite being MORE surprising than most anything else).

LuppyLuptonium - February 1, 2008 01:40 PM (GMT)
Yeah maybe we should have the CSNESF Smash Tourny a few days after the game is released. so we have time to unlock characters.

MFD - February 1, 2008 01:44 PM (GMT)
I love how he went to the trouble of highlighting the differences between Ness and Lucas.

demener - February 1, 2008 03:04 PM (GMT)
Looks like Lucas is 'EZ Mode' Ness.

Dark Hawk - February 1, 2008 05:14 PM (GMT)
Something tells me we will be getting those highlights with the other "Clones"
