Description: It's a thing

There. Talk about autism as it does not relate to politics in here, please.

My stepsister has autism.

So does my half-brother. It's part of the reason why my dad's first wife won custody over him and a few other things.

The brother of a childhood friend of mine had autism. I always found him kinda scary.

I've always been an "Aspy's" kid, but during High School I became much more mellow. My best friend Matt has the same symptoms, only more of them and they're more noticable. He's a little geeky and nerdy, but he's still my bestest buddy, we've been so since elementary.
A lot of people made fun of me over the years because of what I had. But I ended up in my dream college despite all of the hardships, and ultimately I'm able to use my "disability" to my advantage. So ultimately, you just go with what you've got, I guess.

Who here that's claimed to be autistic actually got professionally diagnosed with it?
Nick - March 4, 2008 09:26 PM (GMT)
I actually was. And I freaked out a little bit, to be truthful...

I did, but I also recogonize that since the form of autism I got diagnosed with (aspergers) is a more subtle case of it, there's a huge possibility that I was misdiagnosed and that I'm merely just a strange kid.
Edit: Wait a minute Nick, you're in college? I thought you were like 15-16.

My uncle has been professionally diagnosed with autism and quite frankly has a pretty severe case of it. It's always pretty depressing to visit that side of the family on holidays.

The most with Autism I've had to deal with is helping my sister one or two times for special Olympics, and even then it was at a distance.
edit My sister coaches Special Olympics, for clarity.

Sometimes it feels like I was misdiagnosed and I could just be strange, but who knows?
And I'm a Freshman in College. I just have the mindset of somebody younger. Always have had that sort of mindset throughout my High School. It keeps me sane.

*waves*
I don't really noticeit though. I have to focus a bit to keep running my mouth over things people don't care about, but that's it. Also partly why I got fired from my first job, but I digress.
