Wow. Did not expect him to go out like that.
I do love Cyber-D though. That's awesome. I'd like to think he talks like that all the time. One thing I do wonder about though is Mouser. Back on the ld Mario cartoon he was King Koopa's right hand man. What happened there? In fact, what exactly was Bowser doing while the rest of Videoland was dealing with Mother Brain? |

I was going to go with "The Final Countdown" to spoilering that direct reference.
Well we've been moving by pretty fast. I'd say we're coming up on Year 19 pretty quick. Also, I guess that explains Bigfoot's rebellion; one of the touched must've reprogrammed him. Though what female in the NES days would've been able to do that? Also also, apparently the Shadow King's race kinda lost it after his fake death. (Panel 2.) EDIT: I'm guessing that these 15 some odd years were during the Super Mario Brother 3 version of the Super Show, with the Original Super Show concurrent with the War vs Mother Brain. Mousser got fired by Bowser around the time MB got... turned off. Of course, that raises further questions, such as how long the Mario Brothers live, or something... "Until that day finally came. The day everything changed."
For a long while I thought I might die of old age before it was revealed what the Great Change was. This line makes me think the revelation is imminent. If this is a fakeout I might just implode into a singular mass of frustration. The thing that I immediately wonder, following today's comic, is... ...if they knew Max Force was touched before the great change, why was he not dealt with long before his commercial ever aired for Koopa? In fact... how could he even get a commercial when he should be gettin' arrestamadid? edit: also:
Man, that sounds riveting. It could be the next super magus bros! This post has been edited by Cyrus on Aug 31 2011, 05:32 AM -------------------- |

So is the Super Mario Bros Super Show canon to Captain SNES? The Zelda cartoon is, I think, so it would make sense...

Bowser's a simple guy, he likely didn't get involved with this whole mess at all. Also, "Shadow Kind" in the second panel This post has been edited by Pata Hikari on Aug 31 2011, 06:46 AM |

Dr. Light. Or well, more likely Dr. Light is using him, he did provide the man with the reality belt thing. The N-Forcers seem to know classified stuff. I get the idea that the War of Death and Despair was a secret war.

I had always thought that Wily gave Max Force the reality-altering belt. Is there a reason to believe it was Dr. Light instead of Wily? |

That's... that's actually a really good point. Especially considering said fact that Dr. Light is touched. -------------------- |

Possibly, but it doesn't seem like Dr. Light is always under the Sovereign's control, at least not as far in as Max Force is. I always saw it as more of a team effort: Light Labs provides the tech, Max Force provides the rockets to the face. On that same note (and with Max Force's appearance here), a thought occurs to me. Alex mentions here that the widows of SoS victims became her minions as well. In the instruction manual, Hope mentions something about the "surviving members of the Power Team," implying that at least one person in the Power Team dies. I think this is how she gets Max. Near as I can tell, there's only one person in the Power Team whose death would affect Max Force so strongly: Johnny Arcade. -------------------- |

There's only ever been a few people revealed to work for Light Labs though, in the games. Dr. Cossack, Rock, Roll, Dr. Light, and Auto. And Dr. Cossack only gets mentions in the manuals as that. -------------------- Notty: You yourself said you were the master of reusing tired jokes until they were so unfunny that they literally absorbed fun and happiness from the universe.

Moot point, but Wily also worked with Light Labs before or during at least three games. With him and Light on working terms in the comic, both or either could make something with the label "Light Labs".

I'd like to think it isn't. Otherwise, "King Koopa" would be some some Bowser/Wart hybrid, and all the Koopalings would have their names from the TV show here. You'd also have to consider that a ton of locations parodying fairy tales or movies (most of which were recent at the time the show was made) would make up part of the Captain N/SNES canon. It also seems to contradict the two later Super Mario cartoons, where the portrayal of the Mushroom Kingdom as well as the mechanics of travel between there and the real world are very different (though out of the three, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 seems to be the closest to the games they could ever get).
Yeah, but by that same token, you'd have to consider that a completely random Koopa Troopa was one of his top three henchmen (along with Mouser and Tryclide) on several occasions.
would the manuals even make up the canon here? Technically, details behind the game's backstory isn't in the game itself half the time (at most, there's a small amount of text if you wait on the title screen long enough), so if you play via emulation or Virtual Console, you're never gonna see it (there's also the issue of some instruction manual stories being fucked up by bad localizations, possibly even contradicting what's seen in-game). Video Game Land here seems to be composed mainly on facets of the games themselves, though the Captain N cartoon also seems to make up the canon. Come to think of it, all of the world's canon seems to somehow revolve around Alex's personal experience with video games (as evidenced by his haxed Final Fantasy 4 file), so I guess whether disjointed instruction manuals make up part of the package, as well as any if not all three of the Mario cartoons (or even, god forbid, the movie), is somehow or other his call in the end. |

I'd guess that it'd be like the FF4j/FF2 thing with mythral town. It counts where videoland feels it matters, but doesn't necessarily go one way or the other. -------------------- |
