Okay. I've come up with a brilliant idea! Something big and fantastic that hasn't really been done in webcomics before! Tell me folks, what's the one thing that is missing in almost every webcomic you read? How about...VOICES!

That's right. As of yesterday, I've decided to undertake a new project I call:

CAPTAIN SNES: THE AUDIO

I'm sure that the use of voices will add to the appeal of this already wonderful comic! Thing is, I know I'm no master actor, nor am I one of those abridgers that can do every single voice on the show...though I can do a great deal.

Which is why I'm counting on YOU, the fans, to lend your voices and enhance this comic, bringing it to greater heights!

Right now I am working on only the NARRATIVE portion of Captain SNES, which means that Alex and Ryan are both taken. I've also done a little of Kain and will soon be doing Max Force as well...but if anyone can come up with a better voice for Kain and Max Force, I'll be happy to give you the part. As of right now, I've done the first 275 comics.

While, I'm doing recording for the narratives, I'm going to be taking auditions. Here's who I'm specifically looking for.

ORIGINAL CHARACTERS
Alex Williams - Taken by me
Schrodinger -
Ryan Keene - Taken by my brother...who I will call "Luigi"
Soverign of Sorrow - I can't pretend I know who this will be (though personally I think it's Hope). The Sovereign's voice will be the toughest to pull off. Mainly because her voice will be blended in with the other sorrow-touched characters. The best thing I can think of is that moment where Riku+Ansem are merged together in Kingdom Hearts and speak at the same time. The difficult part is that the Sovereign's voice must speak at the same time as another character. This voice requires COMMITMENT.
Arrogance (Anne Robinson) - Teach.
Hatred (Zeromus) -
Cynicism (Alanis Morissette) -
Monkeyspank Virus - Luigi...though if anyone thinks they can do a better Monkeyspank voice, feel free.
Bob (Final Fantasy Legends) - Luigi

Sabin - Once again, Teach
Gau - Uwaaaooo! Teach do this voice too!

WHEW! Long-ass list. Feel free to pick a part while I zip through the narrations. Feel free to PM me if you're interested. Pick some parts and send me some clip samples. I'd like to go through this in chronological order, so a good place to start would be for the Act 1 characters.

Also, the purple characters are sorrow-touched. Meaning that either now...or at some point later on, the voice of the Sovereign will have to "match" up her voice with other characters. She never speaks alone. Note that our first sorrow-touched victim will be the Fat Chocobo, so she'll make an appearance early.

Let's see what you make of this!!

Pretty sure this was attempted before, back when we were on the Buzzcomix forums. Didn't work out so well...

This is the kind of gun they used to put PLANES on. It wasn't a case of 'Oh, we got this jet fighter, it kinda needs something besides missiles and bombs and shit, let's strap this thing on'. NO. It was a case of a guy making a gun SO awesome, that he just stepped back, and said, "This shit needs to fly'. And everyone else is like, 'You cant make a gun fly!'. And the first guy is all like, 'Fuck you, yes I can. I will strap a PLANE to this GUN.' And everyone's like, 'You mean strap the gun to a plane?' And the first guy is like, 'No, man. I am strapping the plane to the gun. The plane is an ACCESORY.'

Yes, but with a slight difference. I've got sound recording equipment. If there aren't any voice actors available, I'll just do the voices for narration only.

Captain's Log: Worked and voiced 436 pages of the narrative parts. Only 155 more pages to go!

I could probably get a good chunk of this done tonight or even tomorrow, depending on my brother's schedule...

Are you just doing the narrative, or the narrative and Alex (since he's the one giving it)?

Edit: Addendium:

My earphones have a microphone, but I have no idea how to use it. Could anyone point me to a windows program that does this easily?

I'm using Windows again because IE is required for certain classes. icon_wall.gif

Right now I'm just doing the narrative. I'm Alex, my brother's Ryan. It goes by pretty quickly.

If I can get some more people into the project, I'll do Alex's spoken dialogue as well. My first step is to go through Act I.

As for recording, I use Adobe Soundbooth. However, I'm sure most Windows computers have a program called Sound Recorder (look under Start ---> All Programs ---> Accessories ---> Entertainment). As long as you've got a mike, you should be able to record and PRESTO! Instant voice recording in a neat little .wav file!

By the way, Spriteless Girl, who were you thinking of playing as?

Well, my voice comes in monotone or overacting (conversationally, I actually use a monotone), so Lucca with overacting, SoS in the monotone, and perhaps Roll or the littlest white mage in a falsetto...

I'd be very interesting in hearing these parts. PM me if you'd like to audition and I'll gladly give you my email address.

As for the Prettiest Girl, I'd say her lines sloooowlyyyy. Then run it at doublespeed. She'll sound like one of the Chipettes!

Hmmm... I have a decent voice. I'd love to try for Magus. Thank goodness for laptop mics or I wouldn't have one.

There used to be recordings of me voicing Mario somewhere. But looks like its a dead link now.

I could try something later. But ehish...I won't lie, I like the idea of what your attempting to do but a few things hurts my soul, audition wise.

Notty: You yourself said you were the master of reusing tired jokes until they were so unfunny that they literally absorbed fun and happiness from the universe.

Troper 1: Wait, I'm sorry. Did you just say that the internet, the same internet that accepts Rule34 without question, the same internet in which exists 4chan, can't consider the possibility that this fanfic is real? What kind of horrible, horrible thing is Too Spicy For The Internet?
Troper2: "What kind of horrible horrible thing"? That's My Immortal alright!

It's dead? Dammit, I should have saved it.

Can you record it again? I'm sure we'd love to hear what you can do.

I'm pleased for the enthusiasm. But before I can give anybody the okay on anyone else's voices, I need to actually HEAR them first. You can either PM me so that I can give you an email to send the clips to. Or you can put them on Youtube and post a link.

By the way, Jay Dee. I'm almost afraid to ask this since I've done a LOT of recording for Ryan's voice already (I am now on Page 500)...but what kind of voice do you think Ryan should have? I'm asking mainly because from the way they talk with Alex occasionally calling Ryan, Junior or Skippy and what not...it appears to me that Ryan is younger than Alex...If you're not keen on spoiling details just PM me.

Also, would YOU be interested in doing any voices?

Oh...shit....This is a new development. Just got through reading 592.

Seems like not only do we have purple text, Omega energy and people who are sorrow touched, but also green text, Alpha energy and...people who are...balanced?

For the purple text, I was thinking of doing a double voice of the Sorrow-touched character with the Sovereign herself. But with green text...I'm not sure what I'm going to do. But maybe that's for another day.

I still have the audio file. Let me see if I can whip up something for Youtube or something.

EDIT: At least, I thought I had it... I'll keep searching for it.

So this is reminding me slightly of "Gunnerkrigg Court Fan Project", but in a good way.

Incidentally, I have a few voices I think I could do, but I'll have to go back thru the comic a bit, pick some choice trial lines, and record.

I highly recommend saving all the pages in the comic. It takes a few days to do this, but in the end it's worth it. Just be aware that most of the comics, especially the later ones come in two or even three parts (Look for filenames that end in a + b).

Since the website that we used before to upload voice files is gone, whats a good way for me to get my voice to you?
