Chapter One ~ Beginnings of A New Legend.

It's early morning. The sun is rising over the city of Viridian, as a group of eight people approach a building on the outskirts of town. They stand there for a moment, before the door opens. An aide, dressed in a white lab coat, motions for them to come inside. Inside, you can see multiple shelves filled with books containing various information about Pokemon. At the end of the building, a woman is typing on a computer. As you approach, she turns around and rises to her feet.

Despite her silvery-white hair, she looks to be in her mid to late twenties. She walks with grace and confidence in every step and wears a knowing smile. She is Professor Karen Palm, former leader of the Elite Four and Pokemon League Champion.

"Hm, punctual. Very good. I am Professor Karen Palm, as most of you already know. You are the new trainers, yes?" She gestures to a desk, where six red and white Pokeballs lay. "There is all you will truely need to begin your journey. Professors Oak and Elm have been gracious enough to donate the six Pokemon most begnning trainers choose to begin their journeys." Her eyes scan the room. "However, I see we have more trainers than Pokemon," she pauses and glances around again, "And you all seem to have a Pokemon of your own already...". She shrugs, "Well, you'll just have to decide for yourselves." Her eyes flash, and she smiles wickedly, "Maybe you should test out those Pokemon of yours? Ah, but I'm getting ahead of myself."

She points to the left wall, where several backpacks are hung. "Inside each bag are various supplies, a small sum of money, and most importantly, a state-of-the-art PokeDex. The PokeDex has a complete registry of most all of the Pokemon that can be found in the Kanto and Johto regions, a built-in map function, and, well, most everything a trainer will need. Take care of it, you'll certainly need it."

She waits paitently for each trainer to pick up a pack and gestures to the desk, "Now, I'll give you a few moments to decide what you'll do with the six Pokemon."

Cyra walked in slowly, looking at everything around her curiously. When the professor spoke she listened intently, but stayed quiet.

Natu just nestled deeper into her hair, starting at everyone else in turn and almost seeming bored.

[Immolation]

Valter listened carefully, looking at the six availible pokeballs and then at the rest of the group, which stood eight strong.

A potential battle this early? Hm... He thought before turning his attention to the back pack's.

After Karen finished, but before any questions could be asked by anybody else, Valter raised his hand.

[Notty]

Karen looked at Valter, amusedly. "People usually don't raise their hands outside of school, though I suppose it's not the worst idea in the world, what is it?"

[Immolation]

"What are the six pokemon?" Valter asked, lowering his hand.

[Notty]

"Well, I'd hoped you would have already know, perhaps you should do your homework a bit more?" She laughs, more to herself than anything else. "The Pokemon are Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile."

[Immolation]

Valter shrugged and walked towards the desk, looking at the pokeballs which were in the exact oreder that Karen had just listed.

Wordlessly, he picked up the pokeball containing Charmander and walked towards the left wall.

Ok, hopefully, I can get out of here without being challenged....

[Newb]

Pink followed Valter's lead and simply walked over to the cyndaquil, picked it up, slipped it in his pocket, and started walking. He trusted his muscles to stop people from challenging him for it.

[Red]

Sawyer, after grabbing a suitable backpack walked swiftly to the table on which the Pokeballs rested. Almost imediatly, two of the other trainers moved to the table and grabbed the 2nd and 5th pokeball.

"hmm. they took the fire pokemon first. that is probably a good indication that most trainers would pick fire, and I already have a fire type. that means I should go with..."

Sawyer quickly moved to the end of the table and laid claim to the last pokeball there. the pokemon Totodile. he slipped the pokeball next to the other one on his belt and moved to stand near the others.

[Pinku]

Mike promptly grabs a bag, but looks at Sawyer with utmost disappointment.

"Nuts, I really wanted that Totodile. How bleeeeh..."

Mike, although he doesn't know the actual order of the Pokemon in the balls (he was probably too busy thinking about what he was going to do with a Totodile), takes a random ball from the collection... but takes something into consideration and puts it back. He looks at Sawyer and proclaims...

"HEY YOU. I WANT THAT. I'MMA FIGHT YOU FOR IT. POKEMON BATTLE 'N ALL THAT JAZZ."

(EDIT: Being the last post on the list at the time, I'd think I had the ability to edit it, right? )

Mack looked around. A few kids approached his age, but he was certainly the oldest trainer here. Well, he knew that would happen.

Mack walked up to the table, offering Karen a smirk and a nod, and he grabbed the squirtle. He picked up a bag, and returned to where the beginning trainers were. He leafed through the bag to check on the money and pokedex, and prepared to watch the first pokemon battle.

[Red]

Sawyer sized up his challenger. Then he put a smirk on his face.

"two on one? are you sure about this?" Sawyer said. "I have a better idea."

Sawyer picked up the Chikorita and looked over to his opponent.

"Tell you what. you win, we trade. You lose, and you keep this one. sound fair?" Sawyer tossed the pokeball to his challenger.

[MFD]

Mack cleared his throat. "Mr. Vonclay, two people will walk out of here today without one of these pokemon. How about you two just have a one-on-one battle, huh? The loser forfeits his right to choose a starter."

Mack glanced at Karen to note her approval or disapproval.

[Red]

"It's up to you how we do this. either way, I'm going to win." Sawyer said, looking at Mike.

"Mmm... eh... aw, phooey. FINE. 2 ON 2, WHATEVER. Let's do this business!"

Merlin, who had been sleeping in Mack's arms, was rustled awake by the emotions of the upcoming battle.

"Hm?" He grunted at his master.

"Sh..." soothed Mack. "Go back to bed, but be aware of the pokemon fighting."

"Mm!" Merlin smiled at Mack, and closed his eyes once more.

[Cran]

Karen shook her head. "Come, now. If one of you won't be taking the Pokemon home, there's no need to tire them out," she said. "That would be unfair to the one who gets the loser's choice, would it not?"

[Pinku]

Mike considers the consequences.

"Hm ...well, gosh. If by any chance I do lose, I've lost, and that ain't good for me record... eh. Best not put all me eggs in a basket."

He looks at Sawyer with a fairly smug yet aggressive look.

"You got lucky THIS time... but I'll mop the floor with you if you even THINK 'bout fightin' me!"

Mike seems to have a grin behind his threat.

"Gimme that one he threw at me!"

"I'll look forward to the challenge then. Next time." Sawyer returns to his spot as Mike took the pokeball Sawyer once threw at him.

An opposing type challenge. He might be a good Rival for my team. I'll have to keep tabs on him.

Mack, a little disappointed that he wouldn't be able to see how these kids did fighting, wandered over to a nearby bookshelf, and lazily flipped through a book on squirtles.
