I... I don't get it.

Well, OK, I do get it. Heaven and Hell for Chrono Trigger, Heaven and Hell for the Super Mario series...

But I'm not seeing the narrative thread connecting these things.

I kinda want to see what level 8964-4 would be like, level design-wise.

All I know about Lucca's "heaven" is that either Alex or JD (my money's on Alex) completely missed two small but important bits of text concerning Lucca and her character development while he played through Chrono Trigger.

1: Lucca's "defining moment" that she mentions as "never having happened"? It happens even when you do save her mother from being crippled, as her diary now displays a desire to learn about science and robotics to make sure there are no more "almost-accidents" around the lab. So she doesn't have that excuse to use for the "changes" in her personality, as we've already seen that time-travelers in CT tend to be more or less untouched by time-travel changes *anyway*.

2: After Crono "dies", Lucca mentions him having been "just like a brother", when you talk to her at the End of Time. So the whole "Lucca not-so-secretly lusts after Crono and is being a bitch and trying to off Marle" idea? Yeah, Alex *really* didn't pay attention when he last played his game, huh? Or maybe he just preferred to think of it as happening "this" way, since it's his ideas that shape Videoland. Either way, Lucca's "Heaven" is the part I think I'm just going to quietly ignore, even when mentioned in canon strips...

Just as a note, JD doesn't write the Christmas filler; it's by Drekal.

Well, Alex (and JayDee) is FAR from the only person to interpret Lucca in this way, so I'm going to go with "it's probably not as clear cut as you see it"

Edit: And yeah, that. Though your commentary involved the strip in general as well.

Too bad, SMB is only strong enough to get to level 256 with cheats.

What, you think she's going to speak candidly with Marle there, who definitely was in with Crono? Especially given the fact that stopping Lavos is definitely a cause more important than petty relationship squabbles over a dead man. Why cause conflict in the team?

Also, I can't really speak specifics, since it's been forever since I played CT, but I seem to remember at least implied infatuation.

She says this no matter which character is in the front of the party. In all three versions. To my annoyance however, the game scripts at GameFAQs left out the optional dialogue you get when talking to party members to recruit them for the DS and the PSX versions, which means I might have to dig out my DS to re-discover how it gets reworded for that one (can't do PSX as I sold that piece of mistake after realizing I now had both games in much better versions on the DS.)

Also, Palom and Porom doing that stuff to the poor Chocobo remind me of a conversation about Link and Fairies.

"But what if you say, choked to death on a fairy while you were eating it? Would you be continually revived only to choke again?"
"...Congratulations, you've just discovered eternal agony." (The BigChoco there looks like this is what he's in. huh.gif )

He's a perfectly ordinary cat from the real world. Ergo, he hates water.

It was a bit of subverted expectations, what with all the deep psychological subversion heaven and hells in the same series. I think it would have been better if Max Force were switched with Edward, to make the contrast even greater.

Anyone notice that Eggplant Wizard's heaven would be hell for everyone else? Not much that's worse than someone who thinks they're funny, but always tells the same kind of joke, and always explains it even though they've said it a thousand times.
