Well, a lot of the Elder Scrolls standard stuff wouldn't work in an MMO. There's too many ways to completely break the game that is fun in a single-player but an MMO has to at least attempt to be balanced. I mean... stealth. Yeah. Also, I'm pretty sure nearly everyone has played a thief in one Bethesda game or another... if they put the pickpocket/lockpicking/sneaking combo into an MMO, no NPC in the game would ever have any belongings at all, and you'd never be able to sell anything to a vendor because they would never have money.

But it loses all credibility upon reading line six on that page. It made me immediately think that literally everyone is playing a claimant to the imperial throne (and if there's another way of interpreting that, let me know), which is just hilariously stupid.

Most likely it will end up being shit. The most interesting thing, to me, is the map on the Game Informer cover. They didn't like making world maps in the main series and it would drive me nuts.

It's not really a world map, though. It's just the main continent. And maybe my brain is just filling in the gaps, but I thought that was all pretty much stuff we already knew.

Now maybe when they start getting into Akavir and stuff...

I'd also have liked to see the Dwemer in this, since it's a prequel, but I guess it doesn't go that far back...

...but really, I just want a co-op TES game. It doesn't need to be a massively multiplayer game, but... sommat I can hang out with friends.

Well, the main continent (and the various islands) pretty much is the world. I did not, in fact, read all of the billion books scattered around Skyrim so I might've missed some reference, I suppose. My memory is bad but if any other continent ever came up in a plot-important manner I apparently missed it - and if it only showed up as a passing reference somewhere, it hardly constitutes important.

Mainly it looks like there's far too many areas on the main continent+islands that are clearly being held in reserve for expansion content for me to really believe they plan on going beyond that, nor do I have particularly high hopes for the game's success so that they might be able to pump out more than what is already obviously not there.

And if there was ever a world map given in any of the games since friggin' Arena, I have not found it.

Mainly I just like maps. It's a crappy map but hey, I wanted to say something positive. And there really isn't a whole lot positive to say about this.

Hahah, very true, very true. And I can't think of another solid world map offhand, so you're prolly right and my brain is just juxtaposing stuff.

(...and Akavir, for the record, is the mysterious orient themed landmass somewhere to the east, populated most notably by snake people who invaded the Empire a couple times, and also founded the Blades)

Oh, it's a PLACE?

...I thought the Akaviri were a race.

edit: Er, a race in the fantasy sense. Elves and humans and so forth. Although honestly that's probably also true given the already existing differentiation between human subraces. I guess I just never thought of them as having a homeland - they were always spoken of as if they were extinct.

If this is supposed to be a prequel, then maybe it's before they are.

Oh, of course, of course. But a landmass doesn't go extinct, and I never thought of it in terms of them being from a different continent. I presumed they were some race or subrace that had used to live around the main continent and had either died out or interbred with other races to the point of losing racial identity. They seem to be awfully important in a lot of history for people from a very long way away.

It sounds like someone hasn't been using enough violence.

I'll never forget the time FZ came to Naxx with my raid one time. We did Heigan and he'd never seen it, or even raided once before in his life.

I actually did some raid stuff back in BC, just very casually. I did Karazhan 3-4 times, and I think I did that big angry cyclops dude once and that was it. I think I spent most of the cyclops fight dead because the rockfall went off a little bit early and I didn't make it to cover.
QUOTE
As I understand it, the info comes from the next issue of Game Informer, but I can't personally speak for any voracity.

It got leaked early online, I've actually got the article. The game looks like a bastard child of World of Warcraft and Guild Wars 2, and the gameplay sounds like shit. It reeks of a lame cash-in off the popularity of other games because it plays nothing like any Elder Scrolls game and instead plays like every MMO in the world.

Maybe I don't remember the ES timeline very well.

But if this is set before any of the ES games, why is Nazi Elfland around? And if Nazi Elfland is around at all, why are the Imperials the bad guys?

The Aldmeri Dominion, much like the Holy Roman Empire, has existed before, and the current evil variation (The Thalmor) is claiming themselves to be the new coming like the Nazis proclaimed themselves to be the Third Reich.

That's not to say the first Aldmeri Dominion were nice guys, but as a group it has existed before, and the current version is the high elves trying to regain their former glory.

So in the next expansion would we get the Numa Numa?

Carmeldansen has the advantage of having been slightly relevant in the past 2 years or so. Numa numa hasn't been paid attention to for half a decade or more. tongue.gif

It will live on in my iPod.

Of course, so will All Your Base and Carameldansen, so...

I still listen to it every once in a while.

Especially after they started making those 10 hour loops on youtube.
