Not because of human intuition or anything like that. That would be silly.

But those happen from time to time anyway!

How could they guess that the next quake could be 'the one'?

user posted image
Untold, hmm? If only someone had the foresight to write a video game telling the story...

user posted image
And here we go. But wait, no. I don't like this screen. I liked the older one.

user posted image
Ah, that's much better.

Now, I'm going to try using Luke's style of writing here, because I don't want to screen-cap all the dialogue like I did with ShinyGold. So, here's a handy guide:

First is standard untouched text. This is used for my own observations on the game.

"Next up, we have speech marks. These signify my party's thoughts and responses to various NPCs."

Name: A name with italic text signifies in-game dialogue or text. I'll generally transcript important dialogue and any dialogue I find funny. This includes my party.

Finally, bold text signifies me diverging from the in-game text and having an NPC say something they normally wouldn't. This generally doesn't crop up very much, but sometimes you'll see it in there.

Party Stats

This space is where I will include my current party's Job Class and a list of their mastered abilities, new abilites in italics. I will update this at the end of each update.

Chapter 1: Beginning Steps

Since there's quite a bit of dialogue here, the beginning may be a bit slow.

user posted image
Our story begins here, in Castlevania...

user posted image
Oh, no, its just a normal castle. Then again there are some Dragons in Castlevania...

user posted image
Lenna: Do you really have to go?
King Tycoon: You know I do, dear. I need you to protect the castle. Under no circumstances are you to follow me, do you understand?
Lenna: But, Father...
King Tycoon: Something is wrong with the wind... I must go to the Wind Shrine to make certain nothing's happened to the crystal.
Lenna: Yes... I've noticed it as well. But, to go alone is-

user posted image

user posted image
Lenna: But you're the king! Why not send some soldiers or something?

user posted image
Oh, I'm sorry. We seem to have taken a wrong turn and wound up in a completely different scene.

user posted image
Now look, there's nothing wrong with the wind. See how it flows through his hair?

user posted image
... Hey, that's not fair, game!

user posted image
Well, this is why you don't let kings do anything important.

user posted image
That's quite the cave. I'm not sure how you could tell the wind was gone.

user posted image
How fortunate that she stayed outside this entire time! If she had gone inside, she'd have missed the plot!

user posted image
Look, all that worry for nothing. The Crystal is fine!

user posted image

user posted image
Sorry, king, but we all saw it. The Crystal was fine until you got there. This is all your fault!

user posted image
Meanwhile, not even the lack of wind can disturb our hero. It's a lovely day outside. From here, he can even see the sunset. Let's take a look.

user posted image
Oh crap.

user posted image
Man, that was close. Let's check it out.

user posted image
For no reason, let's leave our Chocobo behind.

user posted image
What's this? We gotta save her!

user posted image
Lenna: Y-yes... I believe so...

user posted image
My name? I did consider naming him Alex, after the Captain, or Red, after myself, but I decided to stick with the default. Now, the original fan-translation named our hero Butz. That was a horrible name, so let's stick with the new one.

user posted image
Bartz: Me? Call me Bartz. Me and my chocobo just go wherever the trail leads us...

user posted image

user posted image
Bartz: Guess it's a meteorite.
Lenna: A meteorite... I wonder if it has a connection to the wind stopping?

user posted image
Lenna: Bartz... Did you hear something?
Bartz: Huh?

????: Oohhh...
????: Ughhh... Help... me...

user posted image
Of course, someone's pain doesn't mean we can't take a moment to look for hidden treasure!

user posted image
Old Man: Where am I... Oh...my aching head!

user posted image
Old Man: Ehh...? I can't remember anything!
Bartz: Looks like you hit your head pretty bad... Maybe you got amnesia.
Old Man: Oh! Something came back to me... My name is Galuf!
Lenna: That's a start! Anything else?
Galuf: ... ...Nope, just the name! Other than that, my memory's a blank slate...

user posted image
Bartz: Where're you going?
Lenna: I must go to the Wind Shrine...

And so, with a party of three, we're off to the Wind Shrine. Sure, the Crystal shattered, but maybe we can use glue or something!

Let's see what happens next time, when I'll take us to the end of the Wind Shrine, where the fun REALLY begins.

user posted image
Galuf: It's decided, I'm going with you!
Lenna: But...
Galuf: I could never let such a sweet girl go all by her lonesome. Plus, I know I've gotta get to that shrine... I feel it in my bones. You've gotta take me with!

user posted image

user posted image
Sorry, I don't want to join you. I want my game to be about something completely different. Like exploring the world, without worrying about saving it.

Lenna: Bartz... Thank you, again. Farewell...
Galuf: Godspeed, and all that whatnot!

Well, with them gone, I suppose we'll just have to go explore. Let's see what a game where we don't have to save the world is like!

user posted image
Ow.

Bartz: Ow!!! Boko! Bad, bad chocobo! What are you doing, stopping like that?

user posted image
Boko: Kweh! Kweh kweh!
Bartz: ...I know, it's just a girl and an old man... And with all those goblins around... Fine, I got it, I got it.

user posted image
Galuf: Geh!

People moan randomly quite a bit in this intro.

user posted image
A couple battles later, and we find them.

user posted image
See what I said about the moaning?

user posted image
Lenna: Bartz!
Lenna: It seems I cannot escape being in your dept...
Bartz: Hey, don't worry about it.

user posted image
Bartz: The road's covered in rubble. I don't think you're gonna be able to make it to Tule that way.
Lenna: But... if I can't get to the Wind Shrine, then...
Galuf: Uhhhh...

user posted image
Bartz: The old guy's pretty dead set on getting there, too... All right. I'll go with you and personally see to it that you get there safely!
Lenna: Oh! Really?
Bartz: Yeah! You know, it was my dad's dying wish that I go out and travel the world... Plus, this time, it feels like- like the wind is calling me.

user posted image
Bartz: Wha- You're awake?
Galuf: Don't sound so surprised. This old dog is always ready for anything!

user posted image
Bartz: Hrm...
Lenna: ...

user posted image
Galuf: Right! And we'll find it!
Bartz: All right! Let's ride!

Man, those character portraits. Really hope the hypothetical FF5 DS takes cue from the sprites rather than Amano's art.

Still, I like FF5. Sometimes simple is a good thing and the job system is always welcome.

Man, I just finished this game like a week ago. You better be using the Spellblade/Duel Wield/Rapid Fire combo or I'll be sorely be disappointed.

It really says something when every piece of Lenna & Faris hentai is based on the in-game sprites & not the portraits.

Yes, each and every single one. Rule 34 does not apply to Amano apparently.

Chapter 2: Road to the Wind Shrine

Last time, we left off after getting Lenna and Galuf to join our party.

Bartz started equipped with a Broadsword, Lenna with a Knife, and Galuf with no weapon. I switched the Broadsword and the Knife because Lenna is faster.

user posted image
Lenna: I don't remember there being a cave here...
Bartz: Probably opened up during one of those quakes.
Bartz: Boko, I think this is gonna be a little too dangerous for chocobos. You stay here, okay?

user posted image
Yes, even Boko has a portrait. Also, 'Wark' is better than 'Kweh'

user posted image
Just inside the cave is a healing spring, if you feel like leveling. Though its not really needed, and if anything, I'd prefer leveling AFTER the Wind Shrine.

user posted image
Odd, there's a pirate here. We could follow him, but first...

user posted image
Gotta love treasure. I gave this to Lenna since she has the least HP.

user posted imageuser posted image
Bartz: That ship just now... How was it sailing with the wind so weak?

user posted image
Lenna: I wonder if they would give us a ride?
Bartz: Um, I think the only ride they'd be interested in would be a keel-haul for all three of us.
Galuf: Yeah, you can't ask a favor from a pirate! That's why we'll just sneak on and steal their ship!

user posted image
Bartz is thrilled with this idea.

Bartz: Whoa! You're pretty gutsy for an old-timer.

user posted image
There's some rooms here, but they're all blocked off.

user posted image
Alright! Let's do this!

user posted image
Bartz: I know that! The wheel won't even budge. How do you work this thing?
????: Try working anything and there'll be the devil to pay!

user posted image
Faris: ...or mayhap you're just lacking in brains! I'd wager it's the latter.

user posted image
Lenna: Please accept my apologies for attempting to commandeer your ship.
Bartz: Wha? Princess...
Galuf: ...of Tycoon!?

Well, I guess the introductions were a little fast...

user posted image
Lenna: Please, allow us the use of your vessel. I must get to the Wind Shrine- my father is in danger!
Faris: Oho, the princess of Tycoon, here on my ship? I'm sure we could fetch a good price for this one.

user posted image
Lenna: I beg of you, please...

user posted image
Faris: ...Toss the lot of 'em into the brig!
Pirates: Aye-aye, Cap'n!

user posted image
The pirates are sexiest. They only need one to capture Lenna. The men get two each.

user posted image
Galuf: What genius came up with the idea to steal a pirate ship, anyway?
Bartz: Look in the mirror, Pops.
Galuf: ...Ohh, my aching head! I can't remember a thing!

Amnesia does not work that way.

user posted image
Bartz: Still... I can't believe you're really the princess of Tycoon, Lenna!
Lenna: I'm sorry, I didn't intend to keep it a secret.
Bartz: It's not that big a deal. But, if you're the princess, why were you going to the Wind Shrine all alone?
Lenna: My father is there. He hadn't been gone long when the wind slowed to almost nothing... I just can't shake the feeling that something terrible is happening. I slipped out alone to head to the shrine, but then that meteorite fell, and... you know the rest.

user posted image
Faris: She said her father's at the Wind Shrine...

Faris is going to ransom Lenna directly!

user posted image
See? He's planning to take her to the king for ransom!

user posted image
Yes, the pirates brought them out of their cell, still tied up, just to ask this. You know, rather than asking, THEN letting them out of their cell.

Faris: Untie 'em.

Faris: I meant, sometime today!
Lenna: But... why?
Faris: I reconsidered your request. You can go back into the brig if you'd rather.

user posted image
Pirates: ...
Faris: Hey! Something wrong with your ears? I hope I don't have to repeat myself!

user posted image
Pirates: Aye...aye-aye, Cap'n!

Faris: Full of curiousity, aren't you, lass?
Faris: Syldra! Come up and say hello!

user posted image
The boat has a head? Now this doesn't make sense.

Oh, it's some kind of sea serpent. I guess that makes more sense?

Faris: Beautiful, isn't she? Syldra and I were raised together. We're close as siblings.

user posted image
Faris joins the party with a Dagger and a shield. I'll probably redo everyone's equipment before we go into the Wind Shrine.

user posted image
I could go to the Shrine first, but let's make a detour here, to the town of Tule.

user posted image
Faris: Think I'll stop in and have a drink as well.

Faris will temporarily leave the party here, but if you choose to shop, you'll be able to shop for Faris as well.

However, we don't really need new equipment yet.

There's plenty of goodies to be had, though!

user posted image
Most of it is found here, in the Beginner's Hall. The pot and barrel hold a Potion and Phoenix Down.

user posted image
There's a secret passage in the wall that leads to this.

user posted image
And this one is obvious.

user posted imageuser posted image
Upstairs, you can fight a Goblin for this.

user posted image
Other goodies can be found. There's a Potion directly across.

user posted image
Bartz: Someone you know?
Lenna: Yes. He built the Torna Canal.

user posted image
Bartz: Okay then, let's check again later.

user posted imageuser posted image
Of course, just because Zok is gone doesn't mean that we can't dig up the treasure in his yard.

user posted image
And some more money!

user posted image
Guess we'll have to track that guy down upstairs. But first...

user posted image
Well, with an invitation like that, I can't refuse!

user posted image
Awesome.

user posted image
WHOA!

user posted image
And here's the first of many pianos. I'll be showing off where they all are.

user posted image
Alright, lets get this guy so we can head to the Shrine.

user posted image
Galuf: Bartz, what've you got that goofy look for?
Bartz: Uh... nothing, I didn't see anything! Must've been a trick of the light or something...
Galuf: For crying out loud, shove over and lemme see!

user posted image
Galuf: Great Caesar's ghost! Just gorgeous... sure haven't felt like that in a spell!
Lenna: What in the world are you two going on about?

user posted image
Faris: What're you two gawking at? Get ahold of yourselves.
Faris: I need a little time to myself. So shove off, you!

I guess we'll leave him alone until the post break.

When we leave the town Faris will join up again.

And here's the Wind Shrine.

So, I gave my Broadsword to Faris and gave Lenna the gear Faris started with.

user posted image
Lenna: What's happened? What's the matter?
Man: The wind suddenly stopped, and now there are monsters in the shrine!
Lenna: What about Father!?
Man: The king went up to the top floor... He has yet to return.

user posted image
Faris: The crystal's up on the top floor, right? Won't hurt to go up and take a look.
Lenna: Faris...

These potions could be handy. Also, the jar here is water from a refreshing spring.

Bartz: The crystal... it's lending us its power...
Galuf: ...For now, let's get out of here.
Faris: Lenna...
Lenna: ... There should be a warp panel to the outside behind the altar.

Now, here's where the real meat of the game comes in. The Job system.

For people who haven't played the game, here's how it works. You can set each party member as a class. As they level with that class, they will learn how to use that classes abilities.

For example, if I make Lenna a White Mage, in time she will learn the skill !White. I could then change her class to Thief, and give her the !White skill as a secondary ability. This would make her a Thief that would be able to cast healing magic.

So, right now we have access to the Jobs Knight, Monk, Blue Mage, Thief, Black Mage, and White Mage.

How should I set up my party? Right now I'll focus on two Jobs for each character, but I don't want too much overlap. Regardless of my party, I will be collecting all the Blue Magic skills as I can.

Not too much overlap? Than my suggestion of 4 monks won't fly. But this is the point in the game when they are most useful, so I suggest Bart and Ferris take monk, while Lenna is a mage and Galuf a thief. Should you get barefisted, go ahead and equip that on a character and make them become the mage or thief instead.

I believe swords are for suckers until you can buy some better than the monk attack bonus.

Make Faris a White Mage.

My Faris had mastered Dragoon and White Mage. !Lance and !White were a pretty awesome combo.

Actually, wait, no. The best thing for a White Mage is to learn an Equip Weapon ability first.

So, actually, go with Monk for Faris. Good strength bonus, plus the Unarmed skill, which you can use for White Mage.

As a note, any skills without an ! in front of them are all passively equipped once you master the class. Not that we're mastering the classes anytime soon.

Make Bartz a Blue Mage!

Galuf is too manly for anything besides Monk, and Beserker with Bare Handed later.

Chapter 3: Magic, the Gathering?

user posted image
Alright, here's the party I wound up selecting.

Sorry, DH, but I'm not grinding 30 AP points just for Learning.

I changed the screen color, as you can see. I'll probably end up doing that a lot. Blame the ADHD. Also, Lenna being in the top row makes her appear on the overworld. There's no real reason for that, I just like to change it.

user posted image
You may remember I didn't shop the last time I was in Tule. This means my White and Black Mages have no spells. So I came back to buy the level 1 spells here.

If you're curious, there's nothing of note at the Weapon or Armor shops. I could buy two more Leather Caps but it's really not a big deal.

So, now Lenna and Faris are set for spells, but what about Bartz? Blue Magic is learned from Enemies. In this game, they have to use the spell ON the Blue Mage in order for my party to learn it.

user posted image
There's some Blue Magic we can learn now in this cave. But it seems that Boko has gone missing while we were off at the Wind Shrine.

user posted image
And here we go. Bartz learned this from the Steel Bats.

user posted image
Well, this solves the mystery of where Boko went.

user posted image
Apparently chocobos aren't very well known in this world.

user posted image
Boko: Kweh...
Lenna: Oh! He's been hurt!

user posted image
Bartz: Please, if you can help him, doc...
Doc: Leave everything to me!

So, theres a random old man with the pirates, and we're calling him Doc. Great Scott!

user posted image
Yar har fidely dee, you do what you want cause a pirate is free!

user posted image
There's one last door. To open it, use this switch.

user posted image
The other chests held a Tent and a Ether.

user posted image
Back outside, we learn the Blue Magic spell Goblin Punch from one of the generic Goblins. Then Lenna sets them on Fire as revenge for knocking her out TWICE at the beginning of the game.

Goblin Punch does extra damage if the enemy and the caster are the same level. You can also learn it from the Black Goblins at the Wind Shrine, and in fact I was intending to do it there, I only learned it here because of a random encounter on my way to my boat.

user posted image
Lastly, we learn Aero from the Moldwynd enemies at the Wind Shrine. You may notice Galuf is a Thief in this picture. As a Monk, he had this annoying tendency to counter-attack and kill Moldwynd's before I could learn the spell. After the first few times, I made him a Thief for one battle.

user posted image
One side effect to Galuf being a Thief temporarily is that I could see this hidden passage. Don't worry, Algy, Galuf was made into a Monk again after I got Aero. The staff went to Faris. Not particularly useful, but better than nothing.

user posted image
With those Blue Magics in hand, we're ready to continue on! The only place we haven't been yet that we can reach is here, at the Torna Canal. Unfortunately, the canal is locked.

Wait a minute... didn't Lenna say she knew the guy that built the canal?

user posted image
What the hell did we walk in on?

Zok: Ohh, Princess Lenna!
Lenna: Zok! It is good to see you.
Zok: Yes... It's been a long time.

user posted image
Zok: Oh, dear. Ever since the wind crystal was destroyed, the beasts in the canal have multiplied like rabbits! It is much too dangerous to enter!

Eww, monster sex.

Zok: Moreover... I-I seem to have lost the key to the canal somewhere...

user posted image
Lenna: *nod*
Zok: Wonderful. Then, follow me!

user posted image
Damn you, insomnia! Even in a video game, you plague me!

user posted image
I don't think I've ever just randomly stood outside to try curing insomnia.

user posted image
Oh, and we seem to have stumbled into a flashback. It was a simpler time, where Bartz had blue hair. You gotta have blue hair!

user posted image
Dad: Stella... if anything should happen to me, never tell Bartz about the crystals... They aren't his burden to bear.
Stella: Oh, darling... please, don't say things like that...

His dad's sprite reminds me of Edgar.

user posted image
Meanwhile... old men are being perverts. Next time you fall asleep, beware, for an old man may be watching you!

Lenna: ...Father... I'll protect the crystals... promise...

user posted image
Bartz: Nothing... I just was reminded of my folks... They died a while back, though...

Bartz had two parents appear in this game. That seems pretty rare for an RPG hero...

user posted image
Bartz: Huh? Take what?
Zok: The key to the canal. With it, you can open the gate and travel to Walse. I was worried about Lenna, so I hid the key, but...

Pirates: Cap'n!!!
Faris: This smells of a long journey... While I'm gone, I need you louts to guard the hideout. We can't just let anyone raid our booty!

Faris: Please.
Pirates: ... Aye-aye, sir! Wind at your back, Cap'n. Godspeed!

Lenna: The wind crystal has shattered...
Bartz: Uh, I know... I was there...
Lenna: Right now, the only difference is that the wind has slowed... But soon, it will stop blowing completely. And in a few years, the air will grow stagnant, and the birds won't have any place to fly...

user posted image
Bartz: ...Three crystals?
Lenna: Yes, the crystals of fire, water, and earth.
Bartz: If those were lost too, then...
Lenna: At first, nothing would happen.

user posted image
Lenna: the seas dirtied and rivers ceased to flow, fires lost their heat and the world became dark and cold... It really would become an unlivable world...

I can't help but wonder how she knows this exactly...

user posted image
Bartz: Huh? Did that trigger any of your memories?
Galuf: Nope... Doesn't matter. I'm still gonna help!
Faris: Well said, old man. I'm coming along too. Plus, we still have to find Lenna's father.
Bartz: King Tycoon? But he disappeared into thin air.

user posted image
Lenna: Bartz... Will you come with us?

You owe them, Bartz. They sat around and watched you learn those Blue Magic spells...

Bartz: Before, I was just coming along for the ride... But seeing everyone here...
Lenna: The crystal shards...
Bartz: We were given power to protect the world... The power of the wind crystal...

user posted image
Bartz: We've got some crystals to save!
Galuf: Sure enough! Let's be off!

user posted image
Galuf: Bartz! Where in tarnation did you get the key?
Bartz: Does it matter? Let's get going!

It's worth noting that there are two enemies you can only encounter here, if you're trying to complete the bestiary. Do that before going too far in.

user posted image
Bartz: Hey... what's that?
Lenna: Oh no... the sealed monster...
Faris: Thundering typhoons! The rudder's not responding!
Galuf: You'd better figure something out fast, cause we're getting sucked in-

user posted image
Well, this isn't good...

user posted image
Faris: Syldra, what's wrong!?
Bartz: Look alive, something's coming!

user posted image
Boss Fight: Karlabos

user posted image
Faris: Syldra!
Bartz: ...I'm sure she's okay. She's a fighter, and you know it.
Faris: Syldra!!!

user posted image
Faris... even if they let you go, I don't think you could do anything...

user posted image
Oh... Syldra's head went down...

Will she be okay?

And if not, how can we get out of here with no wind?

Party Time
Lenna, Faris, and Bartz have each learned the first 'ability' of each of their Jobs. In Lenna and Faris's cases, this means they could use Level 1 spells of the Black and White types, respectively. Bartz's ability is called !Check, which reveals the enemy HP.

I could keep everyone's classes the same, but I could also level Lenna and Faris in the Thief or Knight classes instead for a bit instead. I'll probably be keeping Galuf and Bartz as they are for now. Let me know what you think.

I suggest you make Faris a thief for quicker emergency heals and getting pirate booty.
