Everyone needs a Hero, dood!, Oh noes, dood! It's another RP!

So, Sinnoh is coming soon. After I'm settled in and figure out what's what in there, I'm planning to run another RP of my own.

But I've learned from the last one; Digimon went well enough for my first on these boards, and I know what I'm doing now. Kinda.

So, taking what I learned from there, I've decided to go for a little something... different.

I'm still in the planning stage. But I've got some ideas to run by people, see what they like.

But of course, you all want to know what this is.

Well, I'll tell you.

It's a Disgaea RP. Yup. I've gone crazier than usual.

Everyone will get to play a demon, setting him/her up with crazy nutso powers. Everyone will be able to have servants and vassals, for even more nuttiness.

The plot? Well, I can't tell you everything...

But I do plan to make it episodal. So everything'll be done in stages, we'll have room for new players every few months, and I'll be able to deal with players dropping easier.

The first episode? Well, it's gonna involve prinnies. A lot of them. A whole lot.

But to do this whole thing... a couple questions.

What's more important, to you? Game balance and having it fair for everybody, or having fun with crazy stuff?
Is it better to die with honor, or with a big ka-boom?
And finally... would you prefer that I flip coins and roll dice in secret, or a method that we can all see and use fairly?

Finally, as far as questions to me... ask away. I can't promise to answer all of them, but I'll do what I can.

A bit of both, really, but with a definite tilt towards crazy for anything based on a Nippon Ichi game

I don't really care, though I'll probably abuse the hell out of the system just for kicks if you let me figure it out. It's kind of what I do.

And? Prinnies are awesome. Besides, they're the only part of the series I'm familiar with, other than the characters from La Pucelle.

I'll keep an eye on this and decide later.

But, even though I've said that, I'll probably join.

Also, you could still (in theory) keep going with the Digimon RP. You just need to be more willing to progress even though some players may be absent. It's cruel, I know. But sometimes it may be necessary.

Oh snap, crackle, and pop! A RP here that hasn't been going on for the last half year, or a Pokemon RP that is part of some interconnected plot that has been ongoing since the beginning of the forum? I'm so in!

I've already got a few character concepts ready for this!! Tell me, no ones going give me shit if I play a toon that is oppisite of my gender, right? I ask because one of the characters I have lined up is a eastern style yokai chick, and I'd rather not use her if it could cause problems.

As to your own questions...

Balanced or fun and crazy?

Both. I want to get to get my character to the point where stray Ki shot could detonate planets, I also want everyone else to be able to reach this point, and beyond, as well.

Honor or kaboom?

I'd rather die in an honorable Earth Shattering Kaboom, perferably against a god-like eldritch threat to the multiverse!

Hidden or non-hidden mechanics?

Now, you see, this has always intrigued me greatly. From what I've seen, most forum RPs are like multi-author novels. One writes one part, another writes the next part. Your Digimon RP was the first I've seen that actually used RPG mechanics. As to your actual question, a bit of both would be nice. Show certain mechanics and states so that we actually know whats going on, hide the rest to keep us guessing.

On another note, I plan on opening an RP myself! Won't be up for a while, though, seeing as it's an original universe (well, mostly original, more on that when I post the RP) that's quite intricately detailed. Both the RP and OOC OP's will be pretty long, as there's a lot of data to cover. Should be up in a week, though. Wish me luck!!

Right.... first off, Darth, this isn't DBZ, it's Disgaea. You won't be blowing up planets. Taking on whole armies is a piece of cake when you're level 9999, though.

Second... um... the pokemon RP? Does use mechanics. Yeah, they do. Online battles and stuff for major fights. Go look at the netbattle log thread thingy.

Third... Great, you wanna punch cthulu. << Then again, it's Nippon Ichi. Somewhat viable.

Yes, you can be a prinny. No, you won't be anyones slave or such. I just have a... special plan for this kind for this kind of thing.

Most of the RPs that have gotten anywhere in the past ever while here have had mechanics; we originally took a more free-form context, but the more structure RPs (primarily the pkmnrp) worked so incredibly well in actually being able to provide challenge that... well, there's not much reason to go back.

... Ok, first off, take things I say with a grain of salt, cause I tend to exagerate to make a point. It's in the large ham job description. I know there's a difference between DBZ and Disagea. I pulled out the planet detonation thing out of my ass (though I believe Laharl DOES destroy a planet with ease in Disagea 2 if you beat him). And Disagea is pretty much about punching sarcastic, genre savvy eldritch abominations!

They were jokes, and pretty obvious ones, that were there to emphasize a point. Point, may I add, you didn' even address.

However, RPG mechanics thing? Yeah, that was kind of embarrising. I admit, I hadn't really looked over the Pokemon RPs. Luckily, my RP universe lends itself quite handily to RPG mechanics. However, I'll probably need someone else to handle that. Any takers PM me, and I'll send you the OPs so you can help craft the mechanics.

Oh, and I can't make Nifar my slave? Well, no worries, I'll simply make him my hired help!! My hired WAGE SLAVE help, that is!!

And Etna had prinnies who betrayed her every time someone who might possibly beat her came along.

Besides, not all prinnies in the Netherworld had contracts. Just look at the prinny land stages and whatnot. The only thing is, if they don't have a contract they don't earn HL towards resurrection as something not in a penguin suit.

...unless, of course, they're Celestia prinnies, but those are goodie two-shoes no-one cares about.

Yeah, I was actually wondering about that. Is Celestia going to play any part in this tale?

Besides, why would I want to reincarnate when there's the Land of Carnage, where prinnies become great warriors? (Yes, I've been doing research.)

Yeah, you better get used to that kind of answer, too, Darth. I don't think I've met a bigger tease of a GM than Raider.

Also, to answer your earlier question: I highly doubt anyone cares what gender your character is, or if your character has a gender at all.

As a side note, if anyone manages to pull off playing a truly sexless character, I'll be impressed.

Genderless char? Yeah, golems are fine.

Also, I totally am a tease of a gm... but hey, I like the feel of a game that evolves slowly as the players learn more.

At any rate! Just to see what kind of characters I might see...

I wouldn't mind a couple pre-bios. These'd just be to test the mechanics I have in mind.

For the mechanics, I've decided on a variaton of Risus.

Everyone makes up five 'skills/weapons' their character has. Examples are things like: Big ass laser cannon, badass swordmaster, mechanical genius.

At the end of any post where you'd use one of those skills, you put a random number between one and ten at the bottom of your post. I'll roll a d10, and the closer you are, the more you succeed.

If you get right on the number, you succeed in a spectacular way.

Example #1! You have the weaponl Big Ass Cannon and try to blow up a small castle. You pick 4, the roll is 5. You probably blow the hell out of it.

Example #2! You have the skill Over-sized Swordmaster and try to cut up an entire army. You pick 9, the roll is 2. You probably get your ass kicked and end up captured by the army.

So, for the test run of the RP, an "episode" called "Pilot", make up some chars. I'll accept the first four.
