The PokeRP in a nutshell, folks.

Gonna go ahead and start a new thread for OOC, just to get a clean start.

I think Cran has something to say as well...?

EDIT: Time to put this first post to use!

Alright, a several things we need to cover. Somethings I'll get to when we actually get to them in game, though.

Alright as far as team building goes, everyone already knows that you are currently all Lv5-all, with 0 EVs.

Here's the ruling on EVs. EVs are now awarded based on Gym Badge or Contest Ribbon count. You gain 64 EVs per Badge or 102 EVs per Ribbon. So, it looks like thus:

0 Badges/Ribbons: 0 EVs
1 Badge: 64 EVs
1 Ribbon: 102 EVs
2 Badges: 128 EVs
3 Badges: 192 EVs
2 Ribbons: 204 EVs
4 Badges: 256 EVs
3 Ribbons 306 EVs
5 Badges: 320 EVs
6 Badges: 384 EVs
4 Ribbons: 408 EVs
7 Badges: 448 EVs
8 Badges/5 Ribbons: 510 EVs (Maximum)

If you are collecting both Badges and Ribbons, you'll use whichever amount is higher to determine your EV amount. If you had 1 Badge and 1 Ribbon, you would have 102 EVs available, but if you win a Gym Badge and have 2 Badges and 1 Ribbon, you would then have 128 EVs.

You are, of course, free to allocate your EVs however you wish.

You'll notice that trainers who collect just Ribbons will have a faster method of progression than those who collect Badges, but that is because contests are marginally more difficult than Gym Battles.

More to come!

EDIT: Hey, I said there was more stuff coming!

Anyway, as far as Level goes, that's much the same. Your level range will be determined by your amount of badges or ribbons.

0 Badges/Ribbons: 5-10
1 Badge: 10-15
1 Ribbon 10-20
2 Badges: 15-20
2 Ribbons: 20-30
3 Badges: 20-25
3 Ribbons: 30-40
4 Badges: 25-30
4 Ribbons: 40-49
5 Badges: 30-35
6 Badges: 35-40
7 Badges: 40-45
8 Badges/5 Ribbons: 50-all.

Again, please do not panic at the fact that Ribbon-collectors level up faster, this is due to Contests being spread out and infrequent compared to Gyms.

More to come!

EDIT: Continuing right along...

The last update covered level ranges, and anyone paying attention will note that despite everyone currently having 0 badges, I've told everyone that their level is 5-all.

This because of a slight twist to the way Gyms work. When you increase your level range through earning badges or ribbons, you will automatically set all of your Pokemon to the minimum level of that range.

If you wish to 'level up', you will need to NetBattle through either Trainer encounters in the wild or Gym Trainers in the Gym. Simply participating in a Battle will be enough to earn a level, and defeating a Gym Trainer will earn two levels.

Of course, if you're capable of defeating Gym Leaders/winning Contests without any leveling up at all, you're free to challenge them at any time, regardless of whatever your current level is.

More to come!

EDIT: Okay, on to Moves.

In a departure from Chapters past, upon claiming your 8th Badge/5th Ribbon, you will NOT unlock all available moves.

Here is the progression.

1-4 Badges/1-2 Ribbons: Level Up Moves Only, 70 Power or less.
4-7 Badges/3-4 Ribbons: Level Up Moves and Egg Moves Only.
8 Badges/5 Ribbons: Level Up Moves, Egg Moves, and Move Tutor Moves Only.

In order to use TM attacks, you will have to find/purchase the TM.

Every TM can be purchased at the Battle Frontier, and there will be numerous ways of finding/earning TMs in game, so there's no excuse for not having the moves you want.

More to come!

The listings in the Global Trading Station are updated on a REAL-TIME weekly basis.

So, it will only be updated on Saturdays.

This gives you a week to find whatever is requested on the GTS and get back to Jubilife to get it.

This is the introduction and explanation for Chapter 5BF: Special Edition.

Back when we started Chapter 5, you'll recall we had a three-way branching. One branch was Orre, one was Hoenn, and the last was the Battle Frontier. Unfortunately, due to a variety of circumstances, Chapter 5BF didn't go very well nor have any lingering relevance.

So now welcome to the Special Edition. We have revamped the chapter with suitable population, storyline, and system, bringing it back for a new round to compliment Chapter 9 and later chapters. Why are we doing this, now? Several reasons, but the greatest is very simple: We can do better.

Here are a list of features we will be providing via Chapter 5BF: Special Edition.

1.) The almost entirley battle-centric element of the chapter provides you with a further experience of the game, allowing you to improve and shuffle time. Moreso, idle battling will be further encouraged for purposes within the chapter.

2.) Battle Points. As you fight on in the Battle Frontier, you will earn BP that will allow you to purchase a variety of things, from Hold Items to TMs. These items can then be transfered to your character in Chapter 9.

3.) The selling point: You play your old character. If you were in Book 1, you will play your Book 1 character. If you were in Devel, you will play your Devel character. If you happen to have neither and still want to participate, we'll personally talk to you to determine what needs to be done.

Indeed, don't think of this chapter as parallel to Chapter 9. Think of it as a single massive element to the game, itself.

Here, I will explain the Battle Facilities of the chapter. They have been altered slightly from the ingame version for proper execution via Forum and NetBattle/Shoddy.

1.) The Battle Tower
-You will pick three Pokemon to come with you against a gauntlet of trainers. There are no special rules involved. The only thing expected of you is Ability. You may choose to participate in Single or Double-Battle.

2.) The Battle Pyramid
-You will play through an invisible map in freeform, choosing from the four compass options to find the way to the floor above. In your search, you may encounter an enemy trainer, a wild Pokemon, or even find an item. You are not allowed to bring items with you, and Level Damage Rules apply. To complete a single set, you must ascend seven floors, each testing your Bravery.

3.) The Battle Pike
-You will choose from three rooms, relying only on hints and Luck. Each room you choose will contain an enemy trainer, a negative status effect, a wild Pokemon, or a free healing station. Level Damage rules apply. To complete a set, you must pass seven rooms.

4.) The Battle Dome
-You will participate in a tournament. In it, you may only bring two of your selected three Pokemon to battle, and it will always be a Double-Battle. You will see the Pokemon your next opponent uses prior to battle. Your Tactics will be put on trial.

5.) The Battle Arena
-You will participate in a 3-on-3 three-round battle. If no KO occurs, a winner will be chosen based on Tactics (number of attacks), Mind (effectiveness of the attack), and Body (remaining HP). You will continue until one trainer's team has been entirely eliminated. How far will your Guts take you? A single set is seven battles.

6. The Battle Palace
-You will battle 3-on-3. All of your Pokemon may only choose one attack each to use throughout the entire set. This is where you temper your Spirit. A set is seven battles.

7.) The Battle Factory
-You will battle 3-on-3 using rental Pokemon. After you defeat an opponent, you may exchange one of your Pokemon for theirs. This will demonstrate your Knowledge. A single set is seven battles.

If you are interested in participating in Chapter 5BF: Special Edition at any time, you need only post. This is not mandatory and there is no time limit. This is solely for fun, and the chance to gain an edge in the main chapters.

Welcome.

We would now like to explain an element of Sinnoh gameplay that many of you have probably been very skeptical about, the return of Pokemon Contests.

Pokemon Contest are a potential replacement for, but are not mutually exclusive from, Pokemon Gyms. If you have ever participated in the Pokemon Contests in RSE or DPP, then you'll have a basic idea what is is we're dealing with here. Unlike the attempt in Chapter 5, these Contests are much more systematic, not to mention cruelly fair, and they will test more than your ability to defeat trainers of specific typing specialties; they will test your ability to do it in measurable style.

First of all, allow me to explain the system supplementary to contests rather than within the battles, themselves. There are, as earlier mentioned, five total ribbons, one for each of the Contest Categories: Cool, Tough Smart, Beauty, and Cute. Additionally, you may not allocate more than one Ribbon to a single given Pokemon. What this basically amounts to is, you must have five different Pokemon trained specifically for these categories. These categories have been defined according to the overall battling system, which I will now share with you:

Cool = Attack
Tough = Defense
Smart = Special Attack
Beauty = Special Defense
Cute = Speed

Some categories contradict others. Using opposite attacks in a specific contest category may lower your point gain or a judge's voltage. For your convenience, they are the following...

Cool - Smart and Cute
Tough - Beauty and Cute
Smart - Beauty and Cool
Beauty - Smart and Tough
Cute - Cool and Tough

Contests consist of three rounds, plus a simple Initial Impression. The Initial Impression awards you points based on your Pokemon's nature, as well as anything you may have given it to boost their specific stat. Such items range from accessories to Poffins, both of which we'll go into at a later time. The points awarded from Initial Impression are an edge, not a decider, and it's the three main rounds where we'll test your mettle.

The first round is the Acting Contest. This should be familiar to you if you've done contests in RSE or DPP. For four rounds, you and your four opponents will Appeal using four moves you will have preselected. The Appeals will earn you Points, and matching the category will raise your judge's Voltage; however, using a move of contradictory category will lower the Voltage. You may use this to your advantage, however. Whoever earns the most points at the end of a given round will go last in the next round. In addition, reaching the maximum Voltage of five stars on any given judge will automatically earn you a great deal of points.

Now for the meat. The second and third rounds are the Battle Phase. At the end of the Acting Contest, the person with the most and least points will be seeded to battle one-another, as will with second and third. Contest Battles have a time limit of five turns. How you battle will determine how many points you gain, such as whether or not you use an attack, or how effective the attack is. The category of the attack is also very important. Be noted that while KOing your foe will award you 10 points, it's possible to still lose without the right choice of moves.

The third round and second Battle Phase will be seeded according to winners and losers of the second round.

After the contest, whosoever is the winner will have the opportunity to face the Contest Master of Ceremonies, or MC, in a personal battle mirroring the Battle Phases. Defeat the MC, and you will be awarded a Ribbon for the Contest Category you're competing in.

These Ribbons will eventually grant you access to the Grand Festival. Placing there, you will be afforded entry to the Pokemon League Tournament.

We will update later with a further explanation of moves and their effects by Category.

I will now clarify the Battle Phase of Pokemon Contests.

In them, you have five rounds to get as many points as possible. These are the points that you are awarded per action.

In standard combat, the type and effectiveness of your moves will yield the following:

Miss - 0 points
Not Very Effective - 1 point
Neutrally Effective - 2 points
Super Effective - 3 points
Critical Hit - x2 points

Many attacks have alternate effects, such as delivering status, or raising/lowering stats. Other moves are specifically designed around manipulation of stats. The points are:

Attack + Effect (status, stat-up/down) = 1 points
Stat-Up - x2 points following turn
Stat-Down - 1/2 points following turn

Of course, being that these are contests, there is much emphasis on the Conditions, of which there is always one theme with two opposing types (see above). These are the points with greatest prevalence in victory or defeat, and they are as follows:

Theme points - +3
Contrary points - -2

And finally, the most important thing about battle, of course:

Victory - +10

I hope this has cleared up a few things.

Thanks for that.

So, there you go, folks. All that random sitting around in the server and playing pointless battles...has a point now! Yay!

Anyway.

While Rowan did leave the choice of starters up to you guys, I'm going to impose a few additional notes.

1) Iyestorm won the Questionnaire Guessing Game, his reward is an uncontested starter. You may not take his starter from him.

2) Anyone who has two Pokemon, either through having two pets or two characters is not allowed to take a starter. (This was established a long time ago.)

3. Additionally, to Samuel and Miggs, while I can't directly forbid you taking one, I would request that you decline to take one, given how strong your pets are compared to everyone else.

More info to come. It's gonna be a busy night, folks!

I said this in the server a few times, but no-one is allowed to leave the lab until everyone makes a claim or pass on a starter.

Within reason, of course. I'll likely start actual updating sometime tomorrow.

I think we've established that Piplup is about as valuable as Sinnoh's underground in gold.

You people suck.

Yeah, I mean Turtwig is clearly the superior Pokemon, yet only two people wanted it.

As a side note, I better catch something else before Roark, or Sam is going nowhere fast.

Edit: I would be beating up Immy or Cyrus for their Turtwig, but Notty's under the mistaken impression the Murkrow is better than nearly everyone else, despite him being OHKO'd twice in a row, not to mention completely incapable of taking on the very first Gym.

So uhm, a few questions.
First of all, i can't get on the server right now due to being at work, so how am i gonna earn my starter? Since there's not that many left... I'll guess Nico just gets screwed over then due to the rules of "first come, first served."
Second, and strongly related:How am i gonna join in plot battles with this time difference?

Server is down, so you're not missing much.

If you want a starter, you'll have to challenge someone for it. Just find the person that has the one you want, and challenge them.

Depending on exactly how bad your schedule is, I may end up deputizing other players to run plot battles for you on a case by case basis.
