He's lucky its Proto Man and not Samus or Spencer, otherwise the webcomic might have just ended.

A first for the comic.

I mean, as far as we know, he has no reason to be cryptic. He knows the person he's talking to doesn't know about the events in question, and he's willing to explain!

Anyone else get the feeling that the Herald of Sorrow is the one that gave Mother Brain the info about how to extract Omega Energy?

Obviously the Sovereign has the ability to see across all games and across both realities, so she'd know about Omega Energy's origins, especially if she's connected to it. A herald is someone who ushers in a beginning of something, and Mother Brain learning about and implementing Omega Energy certainly led to the beginning of the end of everything that they all knew; something that's been hinted pretty bluntly throughout recent comics.

http://www.captainsnes.com/2011/05/09/670-...ey-on-spriteco/ Is where MB first learns about it, through the paper.

http://www.captainsnes.com/2011/05/25/677-in-the-putting/ Is where she uses it and mentions a "he", who is whom I'm assuming is the eventual Herald of Sorrow. My assumption is that the Herald is a "he", and he used Mother Brain as a conduit to begin the Sovereign's outward plans.

I know that it was said that Wily was the one who discovered Omega Energy, but a few things come to mind.

A) He's a liar, and could easily have taken credit for it after MB was gone. After all, who else was there who could testify against him that's still around today?
B) He legitimately didn't know about Omega Energy's origins while the timeline was still in 90's cartoon-mode. When reality started to "change" during the great change after MB's death, surely he could have and would have had an increased interest into the origin of Omega Energy, especially if he was the one who performed the extraction technique to suck it out of Captain N.

If my suspicions are correct, we'll probably see some sort of tie-in between whoever provided that information to MB on that note (which could be anything from detailed documents to something taken from the real world) and the Herald of Sorrow.

But the Herald was called a 'her' in the manual.

Perhaps it was the Shadow King then, who told MB of Omega energy... But who is he?

Hrm... I sense a scene shift coming on.

look, I'm not afraid to say I'm totally gay for Protoman. Please, you shiny red robot, tell us more about the secrets, and stuff.

Also, JayDee? I think most people don't much mind comics appearing at exactly 12:00 AM. It's getting three strips a week that is really awesome.

yeah, I'm just happy to have the frequent updates now myself. But maybe he's setting some self-imposed deadlines as a disciplinary measure. You know, keep the updates from becoming sparse again like they were numerous times in the past. If such is the case, I applaud him for keeping at it.

Post is now accurate. biggrin.gif

And also, Lucavi, a Herald can also be a messenger, especially for a Sovereign. Perhaps the N-Team/Royal Family did more shooting than heeding. It also wouldn't surprise me that the manual's information didn't quite have all the facts, straight or otherwise.

It's a flimsy pretext, but I'm sure that the N-Team have gotten away with worse.

I don't think the Captain SNES characters/manuals can lie without our knowing it. This seems to be a convention in series with complicated plots, where characters are plopped into a mysterious world that has strange physics and phenomenon. For instance, in Lost, the deceptive Benjamin Linus could lie about his motives and actions (especially through omission, like Gato and Bob), but never about the phenomenon or history of the Island. It is a convention that is important to have, because if the reader cannot assume to trust anyone, I wouldn't think he'd be able to transcend the skepticism he'd have of EVERYTHING offered to the reader to enjoy the storyline.

So, for instance, though Gato is deceptive, he never outright lies. Likewise, the Sovereign maintains herself that she does not lie (and we can trust her in this, I think). Cynicism is deceptive in her recent questioning, but Alex himself admits she did not lie. Magus does not lie to Roy; he just uses another spell to send him away. Those who do lie are immediately revealed to be that way, like Spoony and Wiley.

In any case, I think we can trust the manual, even if as you said, it could be a little off, or have a rose-colored perspective.

I wonder where Mario is in all this. Is this his pre-Great One days, or is he better working as an independent?
