Perhaps - I don't remember what Rydia's full-party Cures were like at the time - but then Rosa joins you...

First off, Salve allows you to conserve Rydia's MP for offensive magic through the Antilion cave. Second, the status effects his Sing attack inflicts can be useful (not only that, but there's a 75% chance of afflicting an enemy with some status effect; also, he will apparently always inflict Toad if he's a toad while he uses it). Third, Salve goes a long way towards evening the lack of healers during the Fabul sequence. There are times he's not as useful, such as when he goes into auto-Hide (especially when you can't take a post-battle break to heal), and naturally he is eclipsed by Rosa while she's in the party. But he is not useless. -------------------- Please do not "help" me by merging threads I make into the ridiculously large ones that seem like they have everything but the kitchen sink related to that topic.

Everything's going to be okay, guys! How do I know?
...because Edgar's going to pierce the sorrow. With his drill. |

Awesome but unlikely.
As for Celes and control: the Sovereign exercises a most subtle control over her servants. Even Rydia, working against her, is a useful pawn.Spoony is more directly controlled, having been advised by the Mask. I think that, though Celes thought she needed to banish Locke... it's possible that Locke is probably a gamepiece the Sovereign wanted out of the way. Celes was in control of her actions. Her thoughts are just tinged by Sorrow. Here's a thought: if Edge's Masamune is effective like Frog's against the Sovereign... then there's a strong parallel in how Rydia banished Edge. -------------------- "The eagles who soar through the sky are at rest And the creatures who crawl, run, and creep. I know you're not thirsty. That's bullshit. Stop lying. Lie the fuck down, my darling, and sleep. - Go the Fuck to Sleep "Yeah, well. We're building a bomb. You do the opposite of what the warning labels say." - Burn Notice: The Fall of Sam Axe |

You spelled Chainsaw wrong. Two of my favorite games as a kid were Crystalis and FF6. Crystalis is dead. I believe in FF6. Sabin, Bum Rush her ass. |

Chainsaw applied instant death too often... and death revived too many enemies who didn't even look undead. The DRILL, on the other hand, pierced defense.

And here I thought you were making an Anime reference a couple of posts back... -------------------- It's a flimsy pretext, but I'm sure that the N-Team have gotten away with worse.

Not to mention that even if the drill can't pierce the sorrow, Edgar can at least put it on his head and be protected against it.

Playing through FF6 again, Chainsaw's instant death does *not* bring undead back to life. And just to make it comic-related, I really hope Edgar whips out some tools at some point. They rock.
