Again, you're forgetting the LARGE international audience Tintin has. Of course they release it here, but the big money is overseas.

There was also a cartoon in the 90s.

Just for a comparison, from a similar era in US comics is Batman, who also has had TV shows regularly since his glory days, and movies made recently. There isn't a person alive in the US who isn't familiar with The Bat, or at least hasn't heard of him a fair bit and knows the basics of the story.
But whenever we make a new Batman movie that isn't a direct sequel to a previous movie or TV show, we make sure to tell his origin story again and explore his character again before showing him investigating/punching out the villain of the movie, because we see it as necessary for good storytelling and to make sure non-fans aren't dissuaded. Somebody who's never seen Batman before, but watches Batman Begins or the 1989 Batman, will still be able to understand why Bruce Wayne dresses up like a giant bat and how he does what he does and so on, and why Ra's al Ghul/Jack Napier want to gas Gotham and how they can do what they do. I didn't feel like I got any of that here. Honestly, by this point, I think they're free to make Batman/Superman/Spider-man movies without bothering with origin stories for at least a few decades, but that's just a side point.

I just watched the Amateurs on Netflix. WAIT! I'm going someplace wholesome with this.
For a movie about a small town coming together to make a porno.... HEY, keep reading, I swear this will get better. It's actually a really good movie. From Jeff Bridges portrayal of a father who feels like he's losing touch with his family, to Ted Danson trying to play a homosexual. The movie comes off as slightly heartwarming and really funny, and there really isn't any nudity (Save a butt shot or 2) to speak of. Plus you have to love a movie that has a character that is literally named Some Idiot and manages to actually develop a character beyond his unfortunate but seemingly suitable naming. If it had a rating it would probably be R, but It's a really good movie and worth watching. -------------------- |

Just saw the new Sherlock Holmes movie. Fun, though not as objectively "good" as the last one. They seem to have dropped the pre-fight scene checklist in Holmes' head of what organs he's going to target and why, which is disappointing, but kept the fight planning scenes with generic one-liners and/or general statements (leaving them feeling like unnecessary padding), and they seriously abused slo-mo and no small amount of Matrix panning. They kept the Reichenbach Falls scene, which is nice, but ruined it by showing him having survived a scene and a half later just before the credits (we all know he's going to survive, but its still better storytelling to leave it ambiguous until the next installment).
edit: Also, surprisingly, the most amount of homosexual subtext wasn't between Holmes and Watson, but Holmes and Moriarty. Unless either the writers or Moriarty failed to read the lyrics to the fourth stanza of Schubert's The Trout... I think that the makers of Chronicle forgot it was supposed to be a found footage movie about halfway through.
Fun movie though. -------------------- Dwarves are just small bundles of beard and booze and hate.

Here's something everyone knows the origin story for
Also, are we going to hell for this? I think we've crossed the point where reality ends and Grand Theft Auto radio commercials being. --------------------

You could substitute Half Life 2 Episode 3 maybe. Or Final Fantasy Vs 13.

So I just got back from Journey 2: the Mysterious Island
It was cheesy. It was childish. It was more than a little dumb. But it was also a lot of fun. It's definitely a kids movie, but it keeps a good pace, has some pretty great banter, and Luiz Guzmán's comic relief surprisingly doesn't really get old (though I was certain it was gonna through most of the movie). Personally, I went to see it because I'm totally man-gay for The Rock, and he's great in it. The man is just so damn entertaining. Plus, not really much of a spoiler, but to not ruin the pleasant surprise if you plan on seeing it: [the pec dance scene was infinitely funnier in the movie than in the trailer] I went to see it in 3D. There were a handful of impressive atmospheric-3D shots, and a handful of cheesy throw-stuff-at-the-camera-3D shots, so if you're a fan of either it might be worth the extra three bucks. But if you hate 3D, this ain't gonna change your mind at all. At the very least, it was bright, vibrant, and colorful, so the 3D actually stood out, unlike some... Other movies *cough*pirates*cough* All in all, it's my favorite movie of 2012! ...it's also the only 2012 movie I've seen thus far. -------------------- |

Anyone know what those robots flying around are? I'm kind of expecting the movie to be similar to the first two Ultimates miniseries, so my guess is Skrull's brought to earth by Loki.

The Turtles are from another planet than the transformers, and there will be a crossover in space. The movie will still spend 2 hours on humans.
