Are any Ajax members doing this event? I know at least one did recently but can't remember his name.
I'm not able to ride but will be there supporting a non-club friend. It would be nice to know if any Ajax members are around. The idea is to ride up the climb (The Tumble) Govilon to Blaenavon road as often as possible for sponsorship. Some headbanger has managed fifteen ascents which is the equivalent of more than six times up Alped'Huez (allegedly.) Come on guys - sign up for a good cause and a real challenge. :) |

Hi Roger
I will be riding this for the second year, its for an excellent cause. I see that James Rabaiotti and Pat Jennings are signed up as well, so come on lets get a few more Ajax riders in. The organisers are fantastic people! Details of how to enter can be found on http://tumbleup4life.wordpress.com/ Bryn |

My non-club member friend who I'm taking up rides a flat-bar Thorn (from Bridgwater) with a fourteen-speed Rohloff hub and all the extras you can imagine.
It's an amazing, actually very sensible bike that would take you round the world but I can barely lift it. I certainly couldn't put it on to a roof rack. He claims it will climb anything in the lowest gear - you just sit there and grind away very slowly apparently. It wouldn't be my choice of bike but it takes all sorts ............ |

Bryn - my friend who has entered TumbleUp this year has problems since registering and there are other queries that he has about the ride as well.
As you've ridden before could you contact him and give him some advice. He's on splott4jules@yahoo.co.uk If you could help I'd be grateful. Thanks. |

Now that it's public knowledge that I've entered I guess I'll have to start training.
Will be aiming for at least 10 reps. I recall James was sick the last time we climbed this hill. Hope he manages this time. I'll look to put something on the website over the weekend and start to push for sponsorship for us all. We'll need all the help and support we can get to get through this ordeal. Pat. |

Quite tempted, I'm doing the Tour of Pembrokeshire the following weekend and Not sure if this would be excellent preparation or just stupidity and ruin my legs.
Perhaps just enter and aim for 5+ climbs and see how I feel on the day. Andrew |

Simon- yes fully recovered from 1st Jan crash now thanks, just been very busy starting my business up as well so have done er......not many miles this year.
Its only this ride and LE2JOG for Brain Tumour research I am really planning on doing this year. Roger- I have been in contact with your friend, and I'm looking forward to meeting him. Pat-its not an ordeal!!! its surprising what you can achieve if you put your mind and body 100% into it. Its a fantastic event. :) Andrew- It would be excellent prep for T.O.P. which is a good event, but Tumbleup4life is even better, hope to see you there. Bryn |

I'm thinking of doing this, I need the exercise and not busy that day.
I don't know that climb, what's it like please? Comparable to say the Rhigos? Presumably they don't care how much money you raise (as I can't see me raising their target of £500)? Thank you. |

I'm very tempted by this too although I'm a crap climber  - would be good as Pat suggests if we could do a kind of joint sponsorship thing........although I'm not sure how it would work.

Graeme-Rhigos is aprox 6.7km and 307m? total ascent, a long gradual climb.
Tumble-6km and 458m total ascent, it is very steep in the lower section but eases off towards the half way mark......I know it very well now! As far as the money raised, best speak to the organisers, Im sure that the more riders on the mountain the better. All money raised goes directly to Cancer Research Uk with no expenses taken out. Mike-good call on the joint sponsorship idea, and you will climb better after this event! Bryn. |

Thanks Bryn, that's useful.
I have a few days off from work this week, so will probably head out to Abergavenny to recce the hill so I know what to expect. I'm rubbish on hills (Mike Barnes is being modest!) so need the training. My aluminium Orbea with a triple or carbon Cube with a compact - tough choice. |

Good to see some interest, gonna need some friendly faces on the day.
I will send the event organiser an email later to see if we can create team AJAX. But looking at the other teams I think you all have to be riding for the same cause within the Cancer UK charity. Graeme - what about doing this as part of a club ride Sunday 15th April? It would be a way of showing some club members what we are letting ourselves in for. Might encourage them to sponsor us? Pat. |

Hi Pat
Sounds good to me, but I've no idea how far Llanfoist/Abergavenny is from here on a bike. What route would we take? I've a day or two free (parole for good behaviour) so aiming to drive out to Llanfoist tomorrow and ride this hill a few times. I think it's the only significant hill around these parts that I haven't ridden yet. If I was less of a wuss I would cycle there, but I can always use the age excuse. |
