I know there are proper methods for lifting and moving a patient from a bed or sitting position. Do you have any ideas about how to assist someone to a standing position from the floor? Especially for someone who is bigger than you. I know avoiding the fall is the best fix for that, however it still happens once in a while. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I think it really depends on the mobility of the person you are lifting.
Safety must come first ! The technique that have used (self taught) is this: Support shoulders and raise to sitting position. Place shortest chair you can find, behind the person and get someone to hold it if possible. Kneel, one knee between person's legs. Other foot, flat beside persons "bum". Wrap arms around persons torso, under their arms. Lift straight up, keep your back straight, using your legs. Put them as gently as possible on the chair and keep supporting them! Basically, as small a lift as you can, as safely as you can. If in doubt, get help ! |
