Okay, since we now have a topic I had better at least mention what it is about.

Back in college (when most of you where in grade school!) Scott, another friend Steve, numerous others (many with characters in the books) and I gamed every chance we got. Mostly a great superhero game, but we also made D&D characters. This was old school D&D v 1.0.

We never got to really play in that world though so the characters went where all characters go. Into a folder waiting to be rediscovered.

Scott and I have always been the writers of the bunch. We were discussing something last summer and I said I had too many worlds in my head to pick from to write about. He suggested pulling Terin and Taylin (Steve's and my D&D characters) out of storage and writing stories about them. He was planning on using his old D&D world as part of the ring.

Kicked the idea around for a bit, thought of a story and thus was born the Grimoire saga.

Now this won't be a full length novel. It may not even be a novella. But it will be good story I hope. And the cool thing is that Zierath, Kunce and Smerhen ran into this evil book 1000 years ago so that is another story to write also

The premise is that during Book 1 of Scott's trilolgy the Grimoire resurfaces. Because no Imryhs can be spared to get it the team of Terin and Taylin are sent to do it.

I won't spoil where the story is going, but it should be fun.

Questions, comments?

Thanks for adding that, Matt. I was going to introduce it and turn it over to you, but you beat me to it. I am looking forward to reading Terin and Taylin. I have put the previous Grimoire materials in the Timeline. I'll dig them out and make sure they match what you wanted...

12662 The Grimoire resurfaces in Zierathdom. Its owner, Zolan Kre, a powerful mage, slowly goes crazy.

12675 Zolan Kre, under the influence of the Grimoire, slaughters the villagers and farmers in the Mattscott Valley. Zierath, Kunce and Smehren search for the Grimoire. Kunce, Smehren, and Zierath track down Zolan Kre and the Grimoire. After a long battle, they subdue him. After a couple of weeks of trying to break the link between Zolan Kre and the Grimoire, Kunce, Smehren, and Zierath are forced to kill Zolan Kre. They then hide the Grimoire.

Is that close?

Perfect!

I'm going to modify a little bit what the book can do from the preview that you have, but it will still be nasty and cause people to go insane.

Now I have a location for that story so that may have to get started again soon!

Got a bit further last night in the current story. Hopefully I will do some more tonight. Had a bad day at work and haven't decided if it better to kills things with words or on the wonderful visuals of the Xbox. Decisions, Decisions.

I do understand that. I was supposed to finish chapter 29 this weekend, but I got too caught up in City of Heroes. I plan to finish 29 tonight, or maybe tomorrow. This is an action sequence, so it may write quickly. We'll see.

But later I will be playing City of Heroes (after Kath goes to bed. wink.gif

Okay, in your ZA newsletter you kept talking about my novel. I guess I had better figure out to expand the story into novel length.

Hmm, that may be possible.

Scott, is there an area of the Ring that has not been called yet? I could just populate an area where the story is set that way it won't overlap with other stories too much.

Sure. We'll take a look at the far east. There are a couple continents there that I have just added in the last year - very little on them (and actually close to where the 1990 Ross MacBain adventures took place)

Well, as I read in another section, we should keep it near the Zierathan Alliance. Let's take a look at a remote area of Carlindom or Dietz. Mountains, maybe. Sound okay?

Sounds fine. Either give me feature & city names or I can make them up myself.

Think city in the mountains. If in Carlindom, the Bane Spine Mountains would work - they are mountains on a penninsula. Another option would be in Dietz, where the mountains are currently unnamed. Create a city, and I'll be adding it to the big map.
