Super box rules says drum clutch . The thread where we ran first race on our super box . We only have one max-torque 14 tooth clutch . We put it on Kalyns kart which he ran 1 week earlier. So when we got the Stout engine we needed another 14 tooth clutch so I had to use one of our Vortex disc clutches . This race was a test anyway. Kalyn out pulled Danny every time they had starts . The max-torque comes in at 2900 the Vortex 3200 . Looks like RPM's are critical on the super box . But a $35 clutch beat a $250 . I always said I could best a $400 clutch with a max-torque but never tried it . Even though Danny won the race after the clutch is engaged it's like direct drive so the only time the clutch matters is starts.
The Vortex is easy to adjust and I could adjust it in but we can't run it anyway . What I'm saying is my $32 clutch is plenty good for any clone class. I got my clutch from APS the clutch is a Max-torque SS $25 and got a 2900 spring for $6 . You can buy a special clutch for clones $50 which is the same as mine but the spring is installed . I always take them apart and check them out and grease the bushing so I didn't see paying the extra money for having the spring installed.
You can get a lot of different clutches for clones but I will stay with Max-torque I have used them since we first started racing flatheads back in the early 80's . Everyone uses a certain brand for their own reasons this is mine .
