Alright, been awhile since I've thought up of anything good, but now I had something come to me. I wanted to try add mecha somewhere into the mix, even though I can't even draw mecha, let alone a comic! (Maybe not a manga, but maybe an anime? O.O) Let's see if this is something original and a keeper! xD
So C&C away!

IDEA:

General Idea: It's a fantasy/sci-fi that happens after a great diaster that leaves over half the world completely decimated and uninhabitable. Only 3 great militaristic powers emerged from the chaos, The Lonestar Corporation (named so, since everything east of the Texas line has been destroyed and is the heart of the rest of America), The Celtics (The remaining parts of Europe, now stationed in France and Greece), and The Japanese Organization (Built mainly of Japanese, but took in survivors from China/Korea). The main characters would be thrown into solving not only what caused such a diaster, but how to stop it's horrid aftermath. (As to what power they are coming from, that is still undecided. I even thought of mixing a rag-tag group from each power, but I also wanted conflicts between each nation so it was out of the question.)

Some of the typical myths of each reagion would be included. For example:
America - Vampires, Zombies, Yetis, etc
Japan - Demons, Chi, etc
Europe - Dragons, Magic, Demi-Gods, etc

In Detail: In the Spring of 2024, scientists had discovered unusual patterns of maelstroms forming throughout the oceans across the world. By the Fall of 2024, these maelstroms had been known to cause supernatural phenomena, accounts similar to that of the Bermuda Triangle. In 2025, the world, as most people knew it, came to an end.

The maelstroms had expanded, their destructive powers ever increasing. Lands across the coasts began to sunder, sinking into the water. Eruptions spread across the world in eastern America, Europe, western Asia, Africa, parts of South America, Canada, and other areas. The eruptions had caused massive thunderstorms, earthquakes, volcanos to erupt, drought, mutation (through what possibly might be considered "evolution"), and other random nightmares throughout those areas. Those lands become lost to the rest of civilization as we knew it.

Anyone who had fled in eastern America, now sought refuge with the rest, within the largest military coalition left, The Lonestar Corporation. For many a years, it was the biggest corporation for military, social, and scientific studies in America. Inventing cybernetics, augmentations, weapons to combat monstrosities, and Massive Electronic Combat Hierophants, M.E.C.H.s for short.

The remaining survivors of various European countries had fled to one of the only havens remaining in Europe, France and Greece. Their union, also known as the Celtics, forged their dominance by reverting and embracing their old pratices. Praying once again to the old gods and picking up the old ways of magic. Although most countries in Europe are still are in one piece, they are shrouded in mystery and monsters roam.

Japan, one of the only islands to remain standing, attempted to close it's borders to all outsiders, once again moving to an isolationism. However, in the previous years, pacts made with both China and Korea were formed, those of which that could not be broken in such times of need. Most survivors from those areas fled to Japan, in hopes of finding shelter. Having to fend off both demons and creations that have not been seen before, The Japanese Organization, in as much respect to their olden ways, also created mechanical war machines. But instead of being run by modern fuels, their weapons and use were controlled by the use of Chi.

Now, in a world picking up the pieces after diasters we have never seen before to this magnitude, people strive to stay alive. Against their own problems, new problems created in the aftermaths of chaos, emerge as the dominant power of the world, and bring an end to this new threat one and for all.

this looks pretty cool, i love it when various myths are clashed together, but this would be quite chaotic if you planned to place everything you mentioned i would imagine, or so i would think.

Gah...its been a long day, but i promise ill read this more seriously tomarrow and give you a better response...

That's a really good idea, though! Your main characters just break off from their own groups to form their own and solve the problem together under some kind of decimation threat from their own corporations. That way they're really trying to work together efficiently to get what they're trying to achieve done and not get killed as rebels, or something like that. That way you REALLY get the cultural clash among the main characters.

This sounds really interesting!!! I would want to read something like this. But I agree that a rag-tag group would be good. A member from each of the 3 major Corporations working together as one.

I don't know why, but reading that made me all excited. laugh.gif

Sorry, i don't think i would read it. Or maby i would, if you keep the post apoc element. The whole typical japan/europe/america myth thing working together just seems so typical and Underworld.

The story is pretty interesting with the whole apocalypse background, but a problem (that i had myself) that will arouse is: how are you going to let your readers know what happened (in a not already overdone way)? If you use a chapter for background history (like record of lodoss war did) and it's not in the same storytelling style as the rest of your comic will be (for instance, on a much bigger scale), then you have a problem. Then there are those huge scientific and historical holes you'll have to fill up, since starting up a new society after the end of the world isn't exactly the easiest thing to do. Things like oil, energy, internet, mass-production, sattelites are things that you can either leave out or keep, but both choices will give you something difficuilt to explain.

Next to all that there's the question of where you'll take it. In a big universe (macross, cowboy bebop or gundam wing) you can focus on all kinds of different 'societies'; the world leaders, the civilians, the soldiers, the crew, ... even if you limit your story to earth alone.
good luck
