Well, take my word for it, the movie was a twisted, soulless abomination still-birthed from the torn carcass of what was left of the book after the movie industry got a hold of it. The only thing it shared with the book was the title.
-------------------- "Yes, makin' mock o' uniforms that guard you while you sleep
Is cheaper than them uniforms, an' they're starvation cheap; An' hustlin' drunken soldiers when they're goin' large a bit Is five times better business than paradin' in full kit. Then it's Tommy this, an' Tommy that, an' "Tommy, 'ow's yer soul?" But it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll, The drums begin to roll, my boys, the drums begin to roll, O it's "Thin red line of 'eroes" when the drums begin to roll." -Rudyard Kipling, "Tommy" |

Isn't that normal for the film industry when they get their hands on a book? -------------------- "Can space marines get drunk?" Oh, probably, but a better question would be "Do you want to be in the same room as a drunk space marine?" I thought not.

Well, I suppose a lot of unscrupulous people (marketing, promotions, etc.) would try and turn it into something else entirely (a la, the Sword of Truth Series and other books/settings that have been bastardized over the course of the last few decades). However, since we don't even know the plot, I personally refrain from judging until the final product comes out. (OK, I'll be honest. I can't refrain from judging that long. So, I keep from judging until at least a teaser comes out.)

I like how everyone immediately assumed that we would sell out and let them do what ever they want to the end product. We are fans just like everyone here. Do you think we would stand by and let them destroy our dream? Come on folks have just a little faith. (This goes double for you Ak)

Sell out? No, of course not. Perhaps Paul was a bad example, in that he wasn't a fan of the book (likely, he doesn't even know how to read), so wasn't really under pressure by "the executives" to make that travesty of cinema. But it is quite likely the suits will browbeat you into changes you're not going to be happy with. -------------------- The Gaunt and Grot

Maybe, but maybe it'll end up like the LotR movies, not true to the books entirely but the best you can get in a less then a day time span.
EDIT: Meaning the movie has to last less then a day |

What I don't get is, someone had to have seen Paul's movie, understood it wasn't what Heinlein intended, and should've spoken up with "this is just a generic sci-fi movie; let's remove the names that relate it to this pinnacle of military sci-fi literature."
Personally, I'd love it if Durndal's television show doesn't make spoken connections to 40K, except from vague references to "the Administratum" and characters walk around with subdued =I= insignia, or somesuch. You know, make it something that just anyone could look at, say it looks cool, and get them interested in looking further into it. "Oh, so there's more to that guy's insignia than a cool frakkin' skull on a stylized 'I'? Oh, you mean there's a whole universe of information? Tell me more..." -------------------- The Gaunt and Grot
