Hmmm... They look a bit too much WWIIesque...
A bit. They are awesome, nonetheless. I expected nothing less from Seato. Say, the faces in the second post... they sure do ring a bell, but I couldn't point my finger at where I have seen artwork in that style... Personally, I love this drawing style, and would like to see it in the comic. -------------------- |

Well, the De Geb are meant to be based on WW2 soldiers. I think that subtle changes like the imperialis on the helmets in the last picture and other Imperial touches should help make a difference... any thoughts/suggestions/ideas?

Just an idea, but possibly combat vets like on the D-Day assault. Not too good near water, but still...

I get the feeling they need to be slightly more 40k-ified too.
I think a good way would be to change the collars, to be like 'straight' collars, like they have in minority report. Or perhaps the small, strip-of-metal shoulder pads like this Deathkorp model. |

![]() Like this? For what it's worth, I get the feeling that the Kataque will be more 40kified, so they'll likely offset the De Geb slightly. I do think it is worth trying to 40kify the De Geb slightly, though. -------------------- + D E I + C A S T I G A T O R +

I'm thinking that, to start with, they have to wear Flak armor. Maybe something like a flak-jacket would be enough, though. Imagine a Kevlar-vest-like configuration (two layers, joined under arms and over shoulders by straps). Then add the Aquilla on the chest. Maybe the layers could join around the neck too, and put the Aquila on there.
Also, the pouches could be put alongside the thigs, instead of around the waist. This way, not only does Seato save some work when drawing the soldiers from a side (since the pouches on the other side will be hidden) but it also helps give them a nice, unique feeling. If necessary, you could draw a strap around the leg to keep the pouches on their place. The pouches themselves would be put in a strap, this strap being in turn strapped around the leg. To offer a kind of compensation for this (the pouches would over-size the legs) we could put something on their arms to bulk them up a bit. I'm thinking clips for the weapons, or a knife on the off-hand arm. Also, grenades could be hung from the waist, or clipped onto the flak-jacket, right on the lower-back (so a soldier only needs to reach back, pull hard, and throw, the clip being yanked out thanks to the pulling motion). It would be spectacular to have a scene with a De Geb pulling a grenade off his lower-back, and tossing it with his arm doing a side-ways motion. About the weapons, I have a hard time thinking how we could 40kify them. However, how about simply adding laser sights or scopes to them? Adding the Aquila would be simple enough, but that means some more detail-work... -------------------- |

The easiest way to 40kify the guns is to just make them chunkier than usual, with wider barrels and stuff.
The more effective way though would be to give them some of the features that make autoguns so unique looking, such as the classic stock, with the padding on the end, and (most importantly if you ask me) the 'fat' barrel cover/grip/whatever (the triangular shaped bit at the end of must necromunda autoguns. Or at least hint at these features. Molotov: thats what I was thinking of yeah, but obviously not on a leather jacket.. Something this made me think of, which i reckon is a good way of making fatigues look more 40k-like, is to give them double-breasted shirts. I know it sounds odd, as they are usually thought of as a very old fashioned style, but it looks good in a 40k environment. Just look at the cadian tank commander model. |

I was thinking more of the U.S. WWII uniforms, but with contemporary webbing, as seen on the gadget-covered Americans now. M-14's are still in use, so I could use the updated version in this. Following the procedures for keeping weapons abreast with the times, I could add the same improvements to the M1 Thompson and other De Geb "stubber" weapons.

I likes it, but the barrel seems a bit fragile, and I think all IG weapons are supposed to be reliable in all conditions, no?

I extended the barrel to make it look more like the thompson, my original idea was to have the end of the barrel (the flash supperssor, or whatever it is) be more or less flush with the grip, ala the necromunda autoguns.
