Member Group: Members Posts: 63 Member No.: 28 Joined: 23-July 08	Custom Avatars Introduction Ok, so with the Star Force series, we get represented on our brotherbands by an Avatar. SF2 took away the pregenerated Avatars to boot, so now we must rely on what we can produce ourselves. Most of the time, the product is pure **. Because of this, and the limitedness of the Japanese website that's floating around, I decided to take requests to put pictures on a 38x46 pixel size with 1x1 pixel grid and reduce them down to 14 colors. Well, my program will only reduce to 16 colors, so you need to knock 2 colors off. In most cases, the bottom 2 colors will be white, and won't be in the picture. In some, you'll have to play around with it to fit the colors. My resources: Corel Paint Shop Pro X Microsoft Paint Sprites, Inc. http://www.sprites-inc.co.uk/ - for their rips megarockexe's Genius Sprite-making Skillz Capcom's official sprites other artists that have submitted their creations How To Section TO USE THESE PICTURES, IT WILL TAKE A LOT OF TIME AND EFFORT. AN HOUR AND A HALF IS AVERAGE FOR ONE PICTURE. YOU MUST SET THE COLORS YOURSELF ON YOUR DS AND THEN DRAW EACH PIXEL BY HAND. THE GRID AND PALETTE ARE SHOWN IN THESE PICTURES FOR THAT VERY PURPOSE, TO MAKE IT EASIER. A lot of people ask "how do I change the palette on the DS?" so I will list the mini-guide to that here: Go to the screen to edit your avatar and then hit R or L to make the palette your active window. Once that is done, use left and right to highlight a color, press A to select it. This will bring up the color edit window. There's not 255 positions like on MS Paint or PSP or Photoshop, so you'll just have to eyeball it. What to Request and What Not to Request 1. I do not search for any images if they are not on Sprites, Inc. - Boktai & Lunar Knights images I may make an exception for, but don't get your hopes up. 2. If you want a non-Mega Man or non-Boktai/Lunar Knights image grided, provide me a direct link to the image. I'm not into Naruto and many other things that are so popular so I'm not going to know where to look or in a lot of cases even what it is you want and I don't have the time to figure it out. 3. As a general rule, artwork (which includes anything you won't find in a video game, including official artworks) is far too big and far too colorful for me to work with. A spriter will need to turn it into a sprite first, so avoid asking for artwork done. 4. I AM NOT A SPRITER. I DO NOT MAKE SPRITES. DO NOT ASK ME TO MAKE ONE. I WILL IGNORE YOU IF YOU ASK ME TO. All I do is take sprites (which, by definition, is images you will find in the game [and it should be obvious what is an in game image and what isn't]. Custom sprites also count under this rule and are fine to request.) 5. The DS only gives you a 38 pixel wide and 46 pixel tall canvas to work with. You also have only 14 colors, even though they are customizable within certain limits, to work with. Keep this in mind when requesting images. Dealing with so few pixels, reducing the image further tends to distort it beyond recognition and it really does look bad at that point. 6. Before requesting anything, make sure it has not already been done. I personally update the database every time I create something new so if it has been done, it will be in the database. Also note that some images from different games (Such as the first 3 MMBN games and MMBCC) share the same images for things that are common (Like Mega Man.EXE is in all 3 of them and the image is identical.) and they are categorized the way they are for that reasons. Chips and Cards are different as not all of them are identical but some are, so keep that in mind too. 7. Also note, as part of rule #6, that there are a few galleries that have images based on many different games that are in the same category. Currently these categories are: megarockexe's Gallery Beavisdude27's Gallery (created & gridded by him) Other Custom Made Sprites - Unknown Artists Unless Specified Other Mega Man Images Other Images (NOTE: This category will have ALL images that are not from any Mega Man or Boktai title) 8. A note to custom spriters submitting their work: Your work is much appreciated, but to protect and preserve what you have created, I ask that you use the eyedropper tool before submitting work. Colors that are different in their RBG number but are identical to the eye will take up seperate spaces when I reduce the palette to 16 colors and will cause it to kick out colors that are more important. 9. THIS IS NOT A BROTHERBAND REQUEST THREAD. DON'T ASK ME OR ANYONE ELSE HERE. I am specifically aiming this at visitors from GameFAQs, but it applies to everyone. I have 6 brothers anyways. The Data Base NOTE: For your convenience, I have listed here in order from top to bottom what images are found on the Japanese website. This issue has already arisen once, so I will address this here: I do not frequent this website and they may update it, if this happens, my list from top to bottom may no longer be correct. ALSO NOTE: Identical mugshots from different games are categorized in the same category. Battle Chips and Cards are a different story, generally each game has their own images but sometimes there are a few identical ones. If you request one that I know is identical to another, I will point you to the one I've done. To display grid lines, taken from the Help menu: ''On the View menu, point to Zoom, and then click Custom. Under Zoom to, click a percentage of zoom greater than 200 percent, and then click OK. On the View menu, point to Zoom, and then click Show Grid. Note You can remove the grid lines by repeating step 3 and clearing the Show Grid check mark, or by clicking View, pointing to Zoom, and then clicking Normal Size. '' So if the pic you want is already the right size you can start working on it right now.

I'm not sure which colors to delete either since it's 16... --------------------
