Well, I've finally created the new EGB IRC server! Everyone join up and get on there!

Primary hostname: egbirc.eagleworld.net port 6667
Alternate hostname: delorean.eagleworld.net port 6667

Registered channels on the server:
#EGB - standard channel for chatting
#Violations - for discussion flaggable flash/reviews

To join a channel, type "/join <channel>" (without quotes)
To register your nickname to only yourself, type "/msg nickserv register <password>". Don't type quotes and subsitute the password you want to use to log on.

After you're registered, you identify yourself to the server that it's you by typing "/msg nickserv identify <password>".

Post any questions, comments, or suggestions here!

If you guys can not get your hands on an IRC client, click this link for a download to a program called xChat.

Eagle introduced it to me yesterday, and its a nice little lightweight application that gets the job done well. I recommend it to you all.

If you already have an IRC client.....Well then just have fun! That's what its there for! however, it did get a bit dead in there last night.....So more people pl0x!

This is the client I've been using lately. Anyway most clients are pretty much the same, and in some cases you'll find some clients with different skins.

If anyone wants to give it a try, you can download it from there and there's also a guide in case you're having problems installing it or using it. The help section also has a shitload of FAQs and stuff that you may want to read if you don't know how to use it.

"The server at egbirc.eagleworld.net is taking too long to respond."

It won't load. What am I doing wrong?

The server takes a while for me to load, but in the end I'm able to connect.

What client are you using? I'm pretty sure that there must be away to configure it so that it still tries to connect even if it takes too long.

Most of these things I can just load up in my browser, so I've never really needed a specific client for chats.

Tried playing with xchat; damned if I can get that to work either. FML.

I don't have AIM. Can't you just write out which buttons to push here, or is it not that simple?

It's not that simple I'm afraid :\

Sorry.

Sorry.

Well, to be honest, there are a few steps he can perform at first assuming he's not having the same issues Cobra was with his router, etc:

1) Go to the Network List (XChat > Network List)
2) Set up your nickname information above (username and nickname should be your ideal pick...the alternates are in case you log in more than once or something)
Add a new network and name it something like "EGB Network"
3) Click "Edit" on the network you just created
4) Click on the "newserver/6667" entry at the top of the dialog box and edit it to say "egbirc.eagleworld.net/6667" and hit enter after typing
5) If you are planning on registering your nickname, you might as well enter the password you plan to use in "nickserv password"
6) For convenience, you can check off "Auto Connect to this network" so you don't have to manually connect every time.
7) Click "Close" on the dialog box to get back to the Network List.
8) Finally, click "Connect" to get on to the EGB server!
9) You should at least connect to #EGB at first by typing "/join #EGB"...you can learn the rest as you go!

These instructions work perfectly for the Linux version of XChat, which I am assuming has the same front end as the Windows version. If they don't apply at all, I can draft up other directions using a Windows install. Enjoy!

Yeah. Sorry about that. If you didn't get the hint....That was a kind way of saying "No sorry, I can't be bothered to write up some instructions."

I really should have done it, I'm sorry. I was just too busy :\

However, make sure that the port "6667" has been allowed through your firewall AND the program xChat is allowed access to the internet smile.gif

There I helped a bit. Yey! :3

Jesus, this is fiddly... What was wrong with xat?

Anyway, I think I might have got it working, but... it's always empty whenever I go in. When's everyone usually on (so I can test if it really is working or not)?

I saw you connect yesterday. My name isn't a bot or anything...that'st actually me. But, I was away from the comptuer at the time, and I only saw your message when you came back. I'd like to get more people on semi-regularly. Cobra and I frequent it, Lizz and ismael92 come on from time to time, and I've seen some other faces peek in as well. I figure the more we can get in there on a regular basis, the more useful the IRC will actually be.

Anyway, I'm sorry you had so much trouble connecting. I'm surprised everyone's having so much trouble...I've had no issues connecting, so I'm not sure what's going on. If you're having trouble again, maybe you can troubleshoot with me to see if there are any server issues I need to look into.

Thanks!
