Kaila's stomach grumbled loudly, snapping her out of her daydream like trance. Jerking slightly in her seat, Kaila looked down quickly and sighed. 'I was starting to space out fully too...' The Ravenclaw thought morosely. "Can't you wait another our or so?" She whispered to her nearly flat belly. Grumble, grumble. Another sigh, and Kaila rose to her feet scraping the chair across the hard wooden floor. "I guess that classifies as a no then." She said bitterly, swinging her bag over her shoulder. Glaring at the space in front of her, Kaila stalked out of the library, her boots clicking along with her.

Click, click, click, click. Kaila listened to the sound as he walked to he great hall, calming down with every step. Soon she was entering the Geat Hall, and not caring how her classmates would react, sat down at the table that just so happened to have the least amount of people at it-Slytherin. Quickly she filled her plate with her dinner, sweet potatoes, milk, and some fried chicken. "Soul food" as her mother, an American, would've said. Smiling happily Kaila dug in, only to be stopped a moment later.

She heard footsteps coming up to her place, and then a shadow was covering her. "I hope you're not trying to start something." She said simply, not bothering to look up. "I'm really not in the mood for a fight, and I don't plan on moving."

Ryan was bored, he'd been studying the same passage in dark arts textbook, desperately searching for how Khrist had managed those tricks with the shadows, for what seemed hours. 'You'll never work it out' Khrist taunted from deep in Ryan's head. "Well then, i'll just have to blow my brains out, won't i? Oh, in case you forgot, that's where you live!" Ryan hissed threateningly. If only he really could bring himself to blow his brains out, the world would be Khrist free...then again, Ryan might be able to twist Khrist to his advantage...

Suddenly, he realised his stomach was churning, "Oh, for pitys sake! I just sat down, I'll never find out if i never have more than 5 minutes in front of a damn book!" Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Kaila leaving, stomach rumbling...therefore food would be being served in the great hall, he concluded. He had absolutely no idea what time it was but was happy to take Kaila's leaving as a sign she'd be heading for the great hall and there'd be food.

He closed the book, slipped it into his bag, maybe he'd be able to read it later. Ryan rose to his feet and swiftly walked out the library, nodding towards the librarian as he went who have smiled and waved. Now, he made his way down the stone flagged corridors, his converse padding silently against them, unlike Kaila's, who he caught a glimpse of turning a corner when ever he turned onto that corridor.

Soon, he found himself in the huge great hall, took a deep breath through is nose and practically fainted from the pleasure coming from the smells. Such bountyfull amounts of his favorite foods, he was surprised he wasn't drooling. He glanced about, Sierra wasn't in here, meaning he wouldn't be welcome at the Gryffindor table but the Slytherin table was practically deserted meaning he wouldn't have to listen to their misguided pureblood babble.

It was so deserted that the 3rd year Ravenclaw, that had reminded him food was being served here, was sitting quite near the top of the table, not many none Slytherins wanted to be near them...in fact, alot of Slytherins tried their best to avoid other Slytherins, Ryan was one such Slytherin. Quickly, he approached where she was sat, if he was stuck on the Slytherin table, he'd be damned if he'd sit by a housemate of his.

Her reaction to his arrival brought a small grin to his face, quickly he put on a really demonic voice, "There'd be no fight, I'd destroy you!" he roared then burst out laughing, without even seeing her reaction, he plonked himself down beside her. "'ey up" he chuckled, normal voice resumed, "Oooooh is that southern fried chicken!? We only get that like once a month." Quickly, he picked up 2 legs and dumped them on his plate, followed by two breast pieces.

"Now...where's the chips." Suddenly a bowel zipped down the table to him and Ryan took a rather unhealthy helping for himself, "Now this is food!" he chuckled before ripping a chunk out of a leg and chewing slowly, awaiting her responses.

"There'd be no fight, I'd destroy you!" Kaila heard from above her, the words sounding slightly demonic. 'Who the heck is-Ryan!' The girl thought excitedly, face lighting up as she recognized the voice. Her head snapped up, a wide grin on her face as she responded. "That's bull and you know it!" She exclaimed. "I know way more spells than you do." Kaila knew quite a few spells, more than the average 3rd year anyway. Tons of spells actually, from the most simple to the more challenging. All found in her beloved library.

As Ryan dropped down into the seat next to her, Kaila scooted over a bit to give him some room. "Oooh, is that Sourthern fried chicken?! We only get that like once a month." Ryan crowed rather loudly, then grabbed a couple pieces for himself. Meanwhile Kaila took a bite of her sweet potatoes, giving the seventh year an odd look as he continued to load up his plate. 'Holy crap, that's a lot of chips!' Kaila thought as she swallowed. "Good God! What are you, a freaking giant or something?" She questioned, then added quickly. "Nevermind, don't answer that. How've you been?" 'Oh, you are so smooth, Kaila.' The girl thought to herself sarastically.

Joel roared with laughter, he was in a rather jolly mood, "You couldn't take me, your inflated sense of ability will get you killed someday. There's three tricks to duelling or fighting of any kind is assume your opponent is faster, smarter and stronger than you, always strike first and always try to look and seem as weak as possible. For example, most people assume i'm a mud blood when i'm half blood, most purebloods think muggle borns are weaker than half bloods and half bloods are weaker than them. It always plays in your favor to have the element of surprise ma'dear."

He continued to load food down his throat, god he was so hungry, "I'm no giant, i just the chemical reactions in my body happen faster than in most meaning i burn energy twice as fast...lame man's terms, i have a fast metabolism." The mention of giants brought the memory of his fight with Jordan to mind when Khrist had grown to 7 foot 2 inches. He gave his head a slight shake to banish the memory.

"I've been better" he answered honestly. "I had a bout of a recurring illness and i've been trying to find a cure and a cause for one of a new symptom." He lied, from honesty to lies in seconds...well it wasn't a complete lie, his split personality disorder was a recurring illness, he was trying to find a cure and the whole shadow tricks could be symptoms and he was trying to find how Khrist had done it.

"Before you say I should visit the matron, that wouldn't help, the headmaster knows and he couldn't think of a way to fix it so the matron, a skilled healer no doubt, couldn't...it's a bit...beyond her expertease." He sighed. "What about your dear self?"

Kaila rolled her eyes as Ryan burst into laughter, listening as he spoke with an amused look on her face. "I agree with you on the first two points, but you've got that last part all wrong. Everyone knows that appearing weak causes more trouble than it can make up for. The 'stronger' people aways go for the weaker ones-with your strategy you'll be fighting left and right."

"I'm no giant, it's just the chemical reactions in my body happen faster than in most meaning I burn energy twice as fast...lame man's terms, I have a fast metabolism." Ryan explained, in reply to her comment on his appetite. "Yes, yes I know all about the chemical reactions Ryan. I'm not completly stupid you know, just partially." Kaila said with a smile, then frowned abruptly. "Hey, that's not even right! Quit making fun of my blondness. It's not my fault my parents screwed me over in the genes deprtment." The Ravenclaw said indignantly, her voice raised in mock anger.

As Ryan told her how he'd been doing Kaila took the time to munch on her dinner. It was getting cold already, not that Kaila cared very much anyway. She was nearly full already, even though she'd hardly eaten half of her plate. 'Stupid stomach,' She thought, glaring at her stomach briefly. 'I came all the way down here and now I'm full after five minutes. What a waste.' Kaila looked at Ryan curiously. "A recurring illness?" She repeated. "You don't look very sick to me-have you checked the medical books in the library? They might have some info and I can help if you want."

"What about your dear self?" Ryan then asked her. Kaila blew out a long breath, looking around as she did so. "I've...been busy, boiling puppies, dropkicking kittens, jumping first yeas in the hallways...You know, the usual." Kaila lied nonchanantly. "I joined the school paper this year, if thats worth knowing about. I'll be doing the Advice section, so yeah...we'll see how that turns out." She finished with a grin.

Ryan chuckled, "No, you won't. Everyone gets into fights about the same amount unless you've pissed someone off. If you act all strong and everything, someone will come for you looking for a challenge or trying to prove something to their friends and themselves. If your not as strong as you've claimed or you think, you'll be destroyed."

"If you appear weak, people won't bother you except for pity little hassles, if you ever get into a proper blast on blast fight, they'll be expecting to blow you away and will be off guard, then you turn them to ash." He shrugged, "Those are three rules about fighting, not avoiding fights." they were three simple rules he'd picked up from reading fiction, muggle and not muggle.

"Yes, there's a reason why i look fine, it comes in bouts then disappears. It's complicated." 'Damn right i am!' Khrist said indignantly in his head. Ryan sighed, "I know what the illness is but there isn't a known cure for it." he picked up the last remaining item on his plate, a chicken leg, and began chomping on it, 'You can't cure me! I'm not the illness! You are!" Khrist screamed in anger...one of the only emotions he had...maybe he was right...

As she explained Khrist chuckled 'Now, the first part of that sounds like damn fun' Ryan rolled his eyes, "Newspaper? As if school work wasn't bad enough you want to help write something that no one reads?"

Kaila shook her head the whole time Ryan was speaking, a 'yeah right' expression plastered clearly on her face. "Ok, ok I get it already." She said when he had finally finished. "Look weak, act weak, and then beat the tar out of 'em when they least expect it! I'll have to try that out sometime."

"Yes, there's a reason why I look fine, it comes in bouts then disappears. It's complicated. I know what the illness is but there isn't a known cure for it." Ryan explained with a sigh. Kaila frowned deeply, talking to herself quietly. "Comes in bouts, no cure...cancer, maybe? That comes in bouts doesn't it? But still, he'd be in the hospital if that were the case...." She had no idea what kind of illness Ryan could be talking about, but she was pretty sure that it wasn't life threatening. Well, she hoped so anyway.

"Newspaper? As if school work wasn't bad enough you want to help write something that no one reads?" He said after she told him about her position on the paper. Kaila shrugged lightly, "It gives me something to do." She stated simply. "I'm sick of sitting around this hell-hole all day and doing nothing. I'm about to go insane."

"Join the club" he muttered in return to the insanity comment. Ryan looked at her, she seemed to be struggling with her food, "You think you're so smart? What do you know about Shadow Manipulation magic?" he quizzed. He doubted she did, none of the 25 dark magic books he'd been through seemed to. He'd had to get permission from his head of house to get access to the books and they hadn't told him anything that he needed to know.

"It's not overly important...it's a personal interest, i'm just curious as to what can be done and what can't so's to speak." he tried to cover his true motives of learning such knowledge. He was desperate to know how powerfull Khrist was getting and to know he must know how hard the manipulation of shadows in the style he was doing it was. If he could learn how to use Khrist's powers without bring Khrist into control, he'd be...he'd be the greatest wizard of his generation!

He could get a job as an auror or pretty much anything he wanted with Khrist's power but not Khrist's well....insanity.

"Join the club." Kaila heard Ryan mutter as she contemplated her last piece of chicken. "You know, I'd really love to," She began, not looking up at him. "But I'm not sure if they've made an insanity club yet." His next question puzzled her somewhat, as she had never read anything on the subject before. "Ummm..." Kaila said, stalling for time while she tried to think. "It's a form of dark magic." She finished lamely, her statement sounding more like a question than a fact.

"It's not overly important...it's a personal interest, I'm just curious as to what can be done and what can't so's to speak." Ryan explained. Kaila nodded at his excuse but wasn't too sure if she belived him. "Ask the DADA Professor then," Kaila said. "If anyone were to know the limits of it, they would." She paused, then added as an afterthought. "Or, you could always ask the Headmaster. I hear he's got tons of info stuffed into that head of his."

Ryan thought about this, he had been planning on popping in to see the new DADA professor, he'd heard rumors that she wasn't out of school long herself, in fact the Headmaster had hinted that it might be someone that Ryan had known quite well back when they'd been here. If he'd known them well enough he wouldn't have to explain why he wanted to know about the Shadow magic...well he will but he'll be able to tell the truth and won't have to explain his whole situation with Khrist.

"Hmmm, i may just go to see the new Defense against the dark arts professor. In fact..." he looked up at the clock, "All the new teachers are given their new offices around about now. Do you might if i...head off to find him or her?" he looked down at his empty plate, he was content with the contents of his stomach now, even if he now felt slightly sluggish.

((OOC: there's not much left to put in this thread me thinks, few more posts to round it off?))

As Kaila listened to Ryan, her gaze drifted over to her own table, where she had spotted a small group of first years. There were three of them, all boys and looking around anxiously. Their eyes darted around, stopped on one person, and then the boys would lean in together, whispering and giggling. They might be fun to mess with. Kaila thought with a smirk, turning reluctantly to speak with Ryan.

"No, I don't mind." Kaila said distractedly, glancing out of the corner of her eyes at the boys. "Do what you need to do, I'm not your mom and I don't intend on acting like it. Besides," Kaila paused, letting a devilish smile spread across her face. "I'm just about to go and harass those little first years over there."

Kaila looked over and as if by cue the boys were now staring at her, a perfect opportunity. Grinning slyly Kaila wiggled her eyebrows suggestively, then held up her index finger, telling them to wait. She turned to Ryan next, getting up as she did so. "Well then, I s'pose I should be going. Don't want them to run off now do I? I'll catch you later." With that last comment Kaila swung her bag back onto her shoulder and made her way to her own table, sitting right across from the First years. It was going to be a great year.

((OOC:I agree, but I suck at rounding things off so I just did this instead. =P))

Ryan watched her go with a smirk, he was tempted to stay and watch but he really did have to go see who the Defense Against the Dart Arts proffessor was. The anticipation was eating him alive. Excitedly, he jumped to his feet, looked to Kaila to see if she'd turned, she hadn't so he paced out of the hall. This would be most interesting. Who could it be!? His mind raced in the suspense.

Ryan could feel his heart in his throat as he left the great hall, turning down a corridor that he knew lead to the moving stairs. Soon, he reached the base, like a child on christmas morning he leapt up the stairs, three at a time. Now, he was on the third floor but the wrong side, ah well, he'd walk. Quickly, he set off again, searching for the new professor.
