No one has addressed the main point that both myself and applesauce have made through out this thread. Where is the gigantic criticism for Janet Jackson grabbing a man's ***** during her performance? It seems more then slightly hypocritical of the corporate media to focus upon Adam Lambert's overt sexuality while not speaking virtually at all about her. It is purely because of the fact that a Gay man was explicitly erotic with other men on the stage. For all the outrage against Adam for his choreography there just is not the same backlash towards Jackson and other performers who also wore revealing clothing and were overtly sexual. And no amount of pontificating about how the AMA's is supposed to be a family show can change the glaring double standard practiced by the media.
Frankly, I believe Adam did this also partially to expose our society for its hypocrisy. And as far as my peoples basic civil rights....well, you heterosexuals have already been taking away our rights in Maine and California so the conversation is one sided anyway. Let me be brutually honest for a moment....in most states in this country it is still perfectly ok to fire someone simply for being Gay from their job. Under Mr. Hope and Change our brave women and men in uniform who happen to be Gay are still being discharged from the military just for being Gay. And also, the Mormon and Catholic churches helped to get our civil right to civil marriage placed on a ballot and took away our rights. So, please don't lecture me about what will advance civil rights in this country when our lives and love is constantly under assault in this country.
Would you like to switch places and instead be the 2nd class citizen who gets mistreated constantly for who you are as well as being discriminated against under the law? Because seriously, I'd much rather be in your life situation where you are so free to judge another person negatively because you don't live in fear you will have your head bashed in by a baseball bat just for walking down the street holding your B/F's hand. That you can unapologetically be yourself and express yourself without fear of people telling you that you will burn in hell for eternity just for being who you are. I wish I had the luxury of sitting on my throne of superiority because I wasn't treated like **** by my government and by a heck of a lot of people over time.
This outrage and ignorant judgment proves how sexually oppressed and anti-Gay this country really is. And after my litany of justifications I mentioned above please don't bother countering that with your personal support for LGBT civil rights. Because while that is nice those of us out here still dealing with peoples BS who can't get over that we exist, we like to have sex, and we have long term/loving relationships continue to bash us both socially and through the government.

All I have to say Soul, is try being a Muslim in the United States after 9/11 and don't tell me that no one else has never felt discrimination.
I may not be gay, but I sure as hell have felt discrimination.
I'm sorry but most of the people in the US couldn't give two ****s about Adam Lambert.
And frankly I'm ******* sick of having someone tell me that when I criticize Adam, it's because he's gay. How about, I can't stand him, because I find his voice absolutely grating, I think he's become quite arrogant, and I think his music sucks. And maybe you aren't talking about the people here, Soul, but it sure as hell feels like it. Yeah maybe all of this brouhaha was brought up because he was gay, but how about it was his first national performance and he mock stimulated BDSM, rubbing his crotch in peoples faces, grabbing his junk, and flipping the camera off. He wanted the controversy, he got it.

I'm sorry I'm not gay, maybe that would make this conversation easier, but just because I'm not gay, does not make me a piece of **** trying to steal your rights. So you can have your one sided conversation, and continue to yell and be angry on this board, and not even pretend to try and understand someone elses point of view.
Also, I did not watch the AMA's, so I could give even less of a care to how skanky Janet Jackson is, or how much the other celebrity women dress like hookers.
I'm done, I'm outta this thread. Since obviously I'm not an Adam fan, and this is a fan area. I apologize to everyone for that outburst, and I'm sure it sounds a little stupid, but I'm a little miffed.

Can you picture a little boy, dragging wood down the lane? Grandma waiting for him brother, playing outside in the rain Each day we hear the score, before not after shots of war And the road to him is love, but the love is never more

Oh, I'm just stating the obvious. LGBT people remain arguably the most discriminated against group in this country legally next to likely Native Americans. Frankly, I feel like Adam is being unfairly attacked like so many other Gay men like myself have been, and I responded to that. I don't dispute there has been discrimination against Muslims in this country, but do they have laws on the books against them in this country? Do they have their rights put up to a vote in individual states? I'm sorry, but the clear answer to that is no.
I understand clearly what all of you are saying. I just refuse to join in on the bashing so really who is not the one allowed to participate in this thread?

Then you stick up for him Soul. You tell us what you liked about the performance, and how you didn't think it was controversial at all compared to the other performances. But don't tell us that the reason we PERSONALLY didn't like it was because he's gay, and because we're a bunch of hypocrites. How about you let us who disliked the performance have our opinions and you have yours. It's as simple as that.
Now I'm out, because this **** is pissing me off.

Notice how I said the hypocritical and double standards of the MEDIA. Berkana, you know I respect and like you as a person, but I don't like seeing a Gay man bashed. Period. What you can't seem to understand is that as a Gay man I've seen this same bigotry from the media in MY OWN LIFE so I'm sensitive towards peoples negativity towards Gay people in general.
I didn't say you couldn't have your opinions, but it's ridiculous to think I should just sit here and watch people say these things w/o responding.

Also, allow me to be quite frank: I HIGHLY doubt Adam had LBGT rights in mind when he was performing; he wasn't doing all that stuff to make a point about double standards against gays, he was doing that to cause a ruckus so he'd get more press. I believe it was him who said that he wasn't that deep and I believe it, he's just a big attention w**** like Madonna, GaGa, Britney, and the like who try to rely on cheap gimmicks instead of using talent to get people's attention (he might have talent but he's obviously relying on the gimmicks).
And SMR, did you not see that I said Janet's performance was vulgar as well? Because I did say that and it was. But two wrongs don't make a right and Adam shouldn't get a free pass because he's gay, just like Janet shouldn't get a free pass because she's straight. Either way Adam's performance was a tasteless mess and I'm SICK of people calling me a homophobe because of that. I'm far from homophobic, and if Britney Spears did exactly what he did I'd be saying the same thing (heck, I commented on IDF about how her new song, "3", crossed the line into tasteless territory so she's not immune from my criticism). If I find some straight people's actions vulgar then I'm gonna find some gay people's actions vulgar as well. I don't discriminate.

EITB: I repeat that my criticism was against mainstream media. They covered the 'scandal' of Adam Lambert extensively while others were basically ignored. This is ultimately what I'm upset about. Adam may have done this performance simply to shock people, but it's all speculation at this point unless someone developed telepathy.

And I have a question to all of you:
Do you support full legal equality for LGBT people including Marriage Equality? I know most of you do, but I don't know if some of you do or don't. Because anyone who does not is a homophobe. I will unapologetically call anyone that who opposes full and equal rights under the law for LGBT people.
I support full rights for LGBT people if that's what you're asking.

From conversations previously in the past on this site I remember you said you supported these civil rights issues. That's wonderful, and I can only hope in the future that because of attitudes like yours being Gay won't be an issue in the U.S.

For the sake of millions I hope not as well. Hopefully attitudes in this country will change, if not right away then eventually. Even more importantly, I hope people will adopt not an attitude of tolerance, but one of love. It's one thing to merely tolerate, or put up with those who are different. It's another thing to truly love them.
