I REALLY liked this part:
Elliott became the first Season 5 contestant to have a solo concert event. He was well-received by his hometown. At the end of the concert, Yamin took off his shirt and threw it to the audience but he was wearing a tank top underneath.

There is a link in Wikipedia Entry to an article that talks about Elliott and his mentor, Tony Klisiewicz. It is near the bottom of the page under External links. It is called Mason Employee Mentors American Idol Top 24 Finalist, The article made me cry. Thank God for people like Tony who saw the potential and helped Elliott! He saw a lost kid who came into Foot Locker every week to talk about shoes and was the one responsible for helping Elliott get his GED. It was very inspiring.

I totally agree. I am so glad that he saw the potential in Elliott, now the whole WORLD does! Thank you, Tony!

I'd like to meet that man and give him a big hug.
So would I! Maybe we could all send him a group E-hug through cyberspace!

Anybody has access to Elliott's Wikipedia entry. It's up to all of us to ensure it's always accurate. You can go ahead and change it back to what it's supposed to be, totoch.

Sherwood, I think this whole Wikepedia thing started when Elliott was first on Idol and they had his name listed as Elliott Bartholamew Yamin. I'll never forget that one. I think it was brought to his mother's attention and she thought it was hysterical!

There has been manipualtion before, of Elliott and ALL the Idols. I know someone put "this b*t*h beat out Chris Daughtry" on Katharine's MySpace once. Luckily, they do keep older version available for repair purposes. Wikipedia is toying with an approval process and locking some entries; should be interesting.
Wikipedia is well used and well-travelled and should be kept up-to-date. It's another site that needs to be tended to, and monitored for accuracy. I love Wikipedia, especiallly the in-depth histories. Normally people don't mess around with it and play with the info-- Idol fanbases are such drivel sometimes, and very immature.

Maybe I should have voted for Chris Daughtry instead.

People with no special expertise or knowledge can post and edit on any subject. Very dangerous, and can be damaging to someone personally or professionally. Wikipedia does not verify the posters credentials. I don’t think they can even trace the poster or editors.
It can make some enjoyable reading. But I wouldn't trust it factually.

exactly.
It is very unreliable. I use it, but with some doubt and I never base anything on something I read there.

Same. I do use it occasionally and it can be a good resource. But the fact that anybody and their uncle can log in and edit stuff makes me take it with a large grain of salt. Adding to what OG said, last year somebody put on Melissa McGhee's site that she had died. People can be cruel.
ETA, we already had a topic about this pinned, so I've merged them.

All kinds of manipulations do go on if you're talking about celebs and other volatile subjects. But if you just need quick facts about general topics and don't need to do strict referencing, Wikipedia is usually fine. Lots of people really enjoy contributing to serious subjects that are close to their hearts.
Does the article look fine to you guys? Notice any errors? Maybe some of us could try our hand at adding to it or editing some parts that Wikipedia was suggesting to be edited... I don't have a Wikipedia account yet, though...

You don't need an account to edit articles; the system will track your IP address. However, you can easily register for an account with just a username and a password by clicking on Create account. You can view all edits before you accept them and all edits are tracked and can be undone, so you never have to worry about messing it up
The administrators seem to be pretty good about catching obvious vandalism, but more subtle changes (like the two Ts) seem to slip under their radar.

I wish there was a better picture of Elliott on Wikipedia. He can look so amazingly handsome in some of his pics, but then again you see one that doesn't do him justice.

I don't fully understand the Wikipedia rules regarding photos, but I know permission is needed from the photographer or owner to use them in an article. Since any material contributed to Wikipedia is free for anyone to use, they have a process that attempts to ensure no copyright violations occur with photos. If you click on each of the photos in Elliott's Wiki article, you can view the permissions. The photo with President Bush is public domain; the Live and Loud was posted by the photographer; and the AI photo was posted on Flickr with restricted use through Creative Commons.
There aren't currently many images of Elliott to choose from, but if anyone who owns a nice photo would like to upload it to Wikimedia Commons, it should be useable.
