Title: SWORD OF EL CID
Description: New DVD release from Germany

High Plains Drifter - April 5, 2008 11:26 PM (GMT)
As predicted earlier, German Company SPLENDID film has released DAS SCHWERT DES CID on DVD in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen.
Picture looks good:

Unfortunately, it is German Language only - the previous information that suggested it might have an English track, or even English subtitles, is quite wrong.
Guess who's looking for an English Language VHS in PAL.

Running time is quoted as 80 minutes, which would make it 83 minutes at the cinema. The imdb says it's 86, but who trusts them ?

It's directed by Miguel Iglesias (i.e Mike Church), but allegedly that's a temporary pseudonym for Ferdinando Baldi, adopted in order to get co-production cash from the Spanish government.

Just like I expected it to be, then. Would have been very strange by Splendid not to promote an English track on their own website if there was one, while amazon routinely gets it wrong.

According to anica's file it seems likely it's the German theatrical cut on the new DVD.

Well it's certainly not the German Satellite cut, because that has a lovely set of credit titles over a Medieval Tapestry.
It is in fact an Italian print, because it carries a Filmar ident, and is followed by the title LA SPADA DEL CID. I'm sorry, but I should have mentioned that.

Amazon.de have now removed any reference to English Language in their listings.
