Name: Marienna Klahan Funsaiki
Nickname:
Codename: Paradox
Team: Mutant w/no team
Sex: Female
Ethnicity: Thai
Age and birth date: 19; DOB- 12/24/84
Power: Marienna’s body has a heightened magnetic charge. In times of very high stress or adrenaline, positive and negative magnetic currents contract against each other inside of her, causing a charge that emits from her body. Her body is capable of advanced atomic magnetism by touch. A bombardment of moving electrons of her newly-created magnetic field is caused upon the object or person. On the atomic level it will greatly influence the electrons surrounding their respective nucleus of their atoms, temporarely destroying it's normal harmonic structure. A person will experience this as a violent electric shock.
Extent and weaknesses with powers: Marienna’s power is not so limited as is her ability to use it. She is able to emit magnetic shock from anywhere on her person, but she has not reached the experience level to control where. Currently, at will, she can release the charge from her hands; however, when she is highly stressed or in a state of panic, she is unable to control where she emits the charge. . This magnetic shock can range from a harmful shock to a tingling sensation when it makes contact with others. It often depends on the stress she is under when she uses her power. If she is simply angry, it would be a light charge; if she is completely enraged, it would be a shock on contact. When Marienna uses her power, she often feels nothing and the area of her body that is emitting the charge goes numb to all feeling whatsoever. She must make physical contact with someone in order to use her power on them at all. It is useless in her defense at a distance. Also, once she has reached a certain skill and control level, she may be able to influence the electrochemical signals of the brain, thus partially controlling the person. This can prove useful in sense of interrogation. However it is limited as said at weaknesses, and she must still make physical contact.
Fear: heights, spiders… She has a discomfort (slight fear) with men; partially because of the incidents that occurred with her brother, Niran.
General appearance: 5’9”, 140 lbs of toned muscle. Her figure is fit and slim, but firm and strong. She is an attractive female with bronzed ivory skin. Looks exceptionally stunning in red satin.
Distinctive marks: Marienna has three, almost invisible, vertical scars along her midsection.
Hair: Black with slight burgundy streaks in random places. The length varies, as her hair is disheveled in many different lengths, however, longest strand extends to her midsection.
Eyes: Light hazel/Deep Brown; two shades in a swirl.
Personality: Marienna is independent and untrusting. She likes to keep her distance from men, because she fears she will undergo the same grief she did with her brother. She knows that she has a softer, gentler side with a great capacity to love. This side of her is very vulnerable and has been played upon in the past, so she keeps it hidden. She also maintains her independence and individuality at all times; if even subconsciously, her constant goal is to remain true to who she is and different from those around her. She is generally kind to those she interacts with and maintains an easy-going, laid back countenance most of the time. Because of her upbringing, she shows great respect for her elders; more specifically those who are in their 60s or older. She has always had a great respect for those who have attained wisdom from their years and feels she can learn much from them. She is strong-minded and intelligent; however, she has a seductive feminine side that is rarely shown. She occasionally uses her charms as a last resort in tense situations or when extra leverage is needed, but most often that is not necessary. She has a very sarcastic sense of humor. Marienna is usually calm and un-phased by typical annoyances; however, it is not wise to anger her or tire her patience. When she is angry, she will not hesitate to vent in whatever way possible. And, considering the fact that her power is most active when she is under great stress, it’s just not wise to piss her off.
Hobbies/Abilities: Drawing/Painting, Japanese mythology. She is exceptionally skilled in kick-boxing and street fighting.
Likes: overconfident men (they present her with a challenge-to put them in their place; which she enjoys greatly), pepperoni pizza with extra cheese, learning new things (also greatly interested in furthering her education), automobiles made in the 1940’s/50’s/60’s, and classical music
Dislikes: stereotypes, rap music, chocolate ice cream, romance novels, situation comedies, James Bond movies, and those who learn slowly (requiring her to make use of patience she does not have)
History: Marienna Klahan Funsaiki was born 6 minutes before her identical twin sister, Pakpao Lawan. Since the two girls were infants, they were treated as if they were only one child, instead of two separate children. They were dressed alike, disciplined alike, and treated alike in every way. As they grew up together, though Pakpao didn’t seem to mind the treatment, Marienna constantly strived for a sense of individuality. She purposefully developed opposite tastes from her sister, wore different styles in clothing, and did everything she could to be different. Her mother and father shared equal responsibility in raising their children; the father was at home often and provided a very positive male role model for the sons and daughters of the house. As Marienna grew up she always had a special place in her heart for her father that she had never had for her mother; this could be partially due to the fact that Marienna had inherited many of her father’s traits and did not have much in common with her mother at all. She grew up with a very positive image of men; perhaps she looked at them through ‘rose colored glasses’, if you will. Besides her father, Marienna admired one other man in her family; her eldest brother by 8 years, Niran Kiet. She looked up to him and counted on him to protect her as he had all of her life as a child. However, this soon would change. One day, when Marienna was 9 years old, her brother arrived home later than usual. He had been out with friends from school (tampering with experimental ) and stumbled in the door at 1:00 AM. Before this night, Marienna had always waited up for her brother and when he would arrive, usually around 9:00 P.M., he would tell her a story or simply stay up and talk to her until she was tired enough to sleep. This night, Marienna had gone to sleep at about 12:00 A.M., tired of waiting up for her brother and slightly hurt that he had not come. He came in the front door and, though he was in a daze, searched for his sister. He eventually found her in her bedroom, half asleep. She awoke terrified, as her brother proceeded to remove her clothes. By the time the night was over, he had d his little sister and ruined her image of her brother for the rest of her life. He was much too drunk to remember later what he had done, and she was so ashamed that she didn’t speak a word of it to another soul.
After that day, Marienna was very distant from her entire family; scared to that someone would find out her wretched secret and cast some blame on her- much like the blame she put upon herself. She did not even completely understand what had happened to her but; just the same, her innocence had been severely shaken. Two years later, when Marienna was 11, Niran went out partying with old friends. Marienna knew he would come home high, and feared experiencing the same physical and emotional she once had. She tried to get out of the house that night to avoid contact with her intoxicated brother, but all her plans failed and she was left to lie, terrified, in her bed; waiting for the inevitable. Niran came home that night and attempted once more to violate his young sister. Marienna struggled to escape him and placed her hand on his chest- pushing him away. In her state of high adrenaline and panic, she emitted a magnetic shock that made contact with Niran’s heart. This was when she discovered her powers; this was also the most powerful her charge has ever been, even since then it has not reached that level of power. He cried out in pain, awaking Marienna’s parents in the next room. When they walked in, what they saw shocked them beyond words; they saw Marienna, unclothed and shaking in fear; and Niran, lying on the bed with a blank expression on his face. Niran died that night and their parents put the pieces together.
The parents decided the best solution would be to hide the truth from anyone. While they attempted to keep the information from all in the family, and while they succeeded with the younger members, Pakpao found out. She blamed Marienna for the entire affair and, from that day on, treated her as a monster. She looked down on her, not only because she believed it to be Marienna’s fault that Niran had behaved badly, but also because this proved that Marienna was a mutant. All this time, Marienna never once lost any of the affection she held for Narin or Pakpao. And, even though she strived to be different from Pakpao, she still felt a great deal of love for her. In fact, they had once had a sisterly bond that was stronger than most; they were not only sisters, at one time, but they were very good friends also. And even though Pakpao now seemed to despise her sister, Marienna continued to feel the same loyalty to her sister. The Funsaiki family was able to keep Pakpao silent until the twins were 15 years of age. Marienna and Pakpao got into a verbal crossfire that had nothing to do with Narin. Pakpao was angry with her sister and went straight to the authorities. She told them an exaggerated account of Marienna’s mutation and the fact that she had “killed Narin in cold ”. She left out all indication that there was a involved, or that what was done was in self defense. Marienna panicked and ran away from home. She got on a plane to New York. For the next year, Marienna wandered the streets and learned how rough life could be on her own. Though she did make a few friends of others on the street, there were also many with bad intentions. Twice she was almost d; in both occasions, she managed to escape without using her powers. In fact, for that entire year, her powers were dormant. Then, one day, Marienna was caught shoplifting (one of the only ways she was able to eat). When the police attempted to put handcuffs on her, she panicked and ally emitted a slight charge from her arms. There were no injuries; however, one of the officers experienced some pain when attempting to cuff her. This obviously aroused suspicion and it wasn’t long after she was taken in that they discovered her mutation. All it took was a little bit of research into her past by the authorities and they discovered the unfortunate events in her homeland. She was sent to a Juvenile Detention Center in Bronx, New York.
It would seem that a certain guard at the JDC discovered Marienna’s mutation and found some other trivial reason not to like her. For the first few months of her stay at the center, this female guard did her best to make Marienna’s life more of a living hell than it already was. She took the liberty to spread the word to a few of Marienna’s inmates who didn’t like her so much either. One day, Marienna was in a bit of a fight with her inmates; one of the s made a smart-ass comment about her being a freak. Marienna was angry; unfortunately, she was not angry enough to utilize her power in her defense. She was ambushed and beaten senseless by five of her inmates. Ramone Shamarr, another guard at the center, watched from a distance and later approached Marienna. He told her he was a former instructor in kick-boxing and street fighting and explained that he would like to teach her to fight and properly defend herself. After careful consideration she accepted his offer and began learning to fight. Those in charge of the JDC and Ramone’s superiors were aware of Marienna’s training; however, it was kept a secret from all of her inmates.
Marienna proved to be quite skilled and successful in both forms of fighting. She did go quite some time without a single confrontation from her inmates; however sometime later, her greatest rival snuck up behind her (catching her off-guard) and managed to knife her in the stomach three times. In her state of panic, Marienna grabbed the ’s arm and sent a magnetic shock through her body. The was shaken enough to cease her attack on Marienna, and was later transferred to another facility. Marienna’s wounds were treated and in time she did heal, but she still holds scars to this day. Marienna was released from the facility when she was 18. Ramone had friends in Bayville and gave her their information; promising that they would show her the same kindness he had during her stay at the center. She contacted them not long after her release and was given a place to stay. However, she soon found that depending on charity was not to her liking and went out on her own once again. She is still in occasional communication with these people and Ramone Shamarr; but, as a rule, prefers to be a loner. She has done some research into finding her family once again in Thailand, but discovered through some of Ramone’s connections that they no longer live where they once did. Marienna has no clue where they are and still hopes to find them.

Sample RP entry: Marienna sat on a bar stool in a café in Bayville, her back to the door. She sipped occasionally at a French Vanilla cappuccino and dodged glances from those ing in the café. She did her best to look normal and not attract too much attention from those around her; however, she often found it difficult to feel completely comfortable in any setting. The young woman behind the counter approached her. “Excuse me, miss; will that be all for you today?” “Yes, that is all. Thank you.” Marienna responded coldly. She was making an attempt at being polite; but, as always, it was laced with the rude distrust that is Marienna Klahan Funsaiki. A light ringing sound came from the door and alerted her. She turned slightly to the left and peered towards the doorway. In walked Ramone Shamarr- a good friend. Marienna was just preparing to approach him when an awkward feeling came to rest in her mind. She had, after all, abandoned the assistance he so readily gave to her after finishing up her time in JD. He understood her need to be independent but she still felt slightly uncomfortable in his presence. She decided to wait for him to approach her. And he did. “Hello there, Marienna. It’s been a while, hasn’t it? I almost thought you fell off the face of the planet.” Ramone said with a warm smile. “Hey, Ramone; it’s been way too long.” She eagerly accepted his friendly embrace. At this point in her life, Ramone was the only person (let-alone man) that she was willing to trust. He had been there for her at a hard time in her life. “We really ought to keep in touch better. Do you still have that cell phone?” he asked. “No, I’m afraid not.” She pulled away from the hug, at last. “It was stolen; I’m sorry…” “Don’t apologize to me. It’s quite alright. I’m sure Julia can hook you up with another if you ask her.” He said with a hopeful gleam in his eye. He had wanted her to keep regular contact with his friends in Bayville incase she needed anything at all. “Yeah, I know… I’ll stop by there later today, I guess.” She said. “Maybe I’ll drive you up there.” Marienna nodded. “I would like that.” Ramone smiled and took a stool next to Marienna’s.
“Excuse me,” He called to the woman behind the counter. “Might I have a cup of coffee?” Marienna gazed at Ramone. He was a sweet man; she owed him so much. Her life had never been the same since that day he approached her back in JD. If it hadn’t been for him, she could be right now. She rested her elbow on the counter and leaned her head against her palm. “So… are you still working up at the JDC?” “Yes, actually… And I may have a new project soon.” He said. “Oh?” Marienna was interested. “Yeah; Mr. Hodges, the man who gave me permission to train you, thinks perhaps it would be a good idea to offer training as a regular program. He thinks it will give the delinquents something to work toward… a goal.” “I agree.” Marienna smiled, “I mean, I know the good it did for me.” “Exactly; Mr. Hodges was impressed too, actually. And I think it might be something worth looking into.” He smiled. “Definitely, go for it, Ramone.” “I think I will…” he paused for a moment, allowing his thoughts to catch up with the rest of him. “Let’s get out of here. My car’s outside; we’ll drive up to Julia’s.” Marienna shrugged. “Yeah, why not?” Ramone turned to the woman behind the counter. “Can I get that coffee ‘to-go’, please?” After getting his coffee, Ramone accompanied Marienna out the doors and into the streets of Bayville.
