Anyway uhm...I don't know how good it is or if it follows all the rules, but I gave it a shot. I figured why not eh? It's more than 250 words as if you couldn't tell

. So here it is.
Title: Empathy for Jean (bleh title sucks. If you can think of something better by all means tell me)
Character: Jean Grey (as seen through my character Savannah's POV)
Character Owner: uhm well Savy belongs to me, bluegoddess
Category: uhm drama? Action? Not sure really.
Rating: G
Warnings: Nope no warnings in this fic.
Short Summary: This story is set during the episode "Power Surge" when Jean's powers went haywire on her. It is seen through Savy's eyes, but I tried to make it focus on Jean.
Note: Just to prove how much of a geek I am with X-Men Evolution, I did not once have to reference to the "Power Surge" episode for help.

And now for our feature presentation!!

Prologue
Sometimes I wonder why I was given the ability to feel other’s sorrow, anger, and stress. I think it’s because I’ve always been such an emotional person. But having empathy is not an easy thing to possess or control. It takes a strong mind to withstand its power. I don’t understand how Professor Xavier can deal with telepathy. Well I do emotionally, but physically is another story. Don’t get me wrong having superhuman powers has its advantages. It gives me a chance to help people which I enjoy doing. I empathize what they are going through and they do not feel alone… in some way at least. No I may have not experienced their problems first hand, but I experience the emotional part that comes with it. Rather I feel it from them. You could say it’s like Rogue’s power of absorbing memories. Except I absorb emotions, and I absorb them whether I like it or not. Oh yeah, and without the whole skin-to-skin contact. So when Jean Grey was having trouble controlling her own powers, I was absorbing her frustrating battle to overcome the conflict. I could relate to what she was going through because I could feel her slowly loosing herself.Someone who may not know Jean like I do would see her as perfect. No flaws and a role model to everyone. As Kurt once put it, “Basically your whole life is a struggle to be perfect so as not to disappoint any of the countless people looking up to you with almost impossible expectations”. Which was what she was doing. Jean saw it in her head that she should be a model of hope and goodness in the world. She had a good heart and believed in peace. She thought if she could show others that goodness through her, then she could change the world. But underneath all that she struggled to keep herself perfect. She should have known that you cannot be completely perfect in life.
“…For this years most valuable player award, Jean Grey!” Principal Kelly announced to the school congregation. Jean was immediately shocked at the mention of her name. I should know. While I knew it was no surprise that Jean should win that award I still felt shocked. Most of the school wasn’t though. They thought it was obvious Jean should win.
Jean walked gracefully to the stage and accepted the golden trophy from Principal Kelly. With a thankful smile she held the trophy in her hands and spoke to the crowd. That’s when I first started to notice a strange feeling coming from Jean. While she thanked her school and teammates for a great year, I started noticing Jean’s emotions shift drastically. A little confused at first then she started to feel distant. I noticed her eyes were darting all over the room. I could tell she was struggling with something because she immediately felt tense. As if there was a weight she was trying to hold onto. That feeling grew stronger until she clutched her head and yelled, “Stop it! I can’t hear myself think!”
The room feel dead silent. My mouth was gaping open. After a few seconds Jean got her head back together and made a joke. Everyone chuckled and she continued her speech. It was as if nothing happened. I didn’t think much of it even when Scott went to talk to Jean about it. Scott was always concerned about every little problem, especially if it concerned Jean. Little did I know that it was the start of something much more.

That night I tapped lightly on Jean’s bedroom door. “Hi Savannah. Come in.” She said while combing her hair telekinetically.
“Hey Jean. Why so dressed up?” I asked noticing her makeup and high-heeled shoes.
“Oh I’m going to Duncan’s party tonight. You coming?” She asked placing the comb down gently.
“Yeah, I heard about that. I’d love to, but I’ve got some homework to do. Which is why I came to see you. I was wondering if I could borrow your Trigonometry book so I could do some of the problems?” I asked eyeing the book on her bed.
“Yeah sure go ahead.” She said handing the book to me with her mind. “A shame you can’t go. I would love for you to come incase things get heated between Scott and Duncan.” I laughed at her comment and shook my head no. “Nah there’s nothing I could do to keep those two from bickering at each other. Besides there’s always that chance that I could start acting like them if I pick up their emotions.” I explained. Jean nodded in agreement and started to leave. “Ok then. Good luck with the homework. I’ll see you later.” She said waving good bye and heading down the stairs.
I was right. I shouldn’t have gone to the party…
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I was in the kitchen fixing myself a warm cup of milk when I heard the front doors slamming shut.
“It’ll be fun she tells me.” I could hear a voice say. It sounded like Scott.
I heard Jean’s voice too. “It was an accident, Scott. You startled me. That’s why it happened.”
I made my way to the foyer keeping a distance so they wouldn’t see me. I noticed Scott was all soaked and Jean looked irritated. No, scratch that she was irritated. I heard the Professor’s wheelchair rolling into the room and he asked her what happened. Scott mentioned something about his bath. I couldn’t help but chuckle a bit. That chuckle soon came to a brief halt when Rogue appeared out of the blue with her new friend Risty Wilde. I crouched back a little in hopes that they didn’t see me. I noticed Kurt, who randomly popped in, frantically panicking to get his image inducer on. After that it was one mistake after another. I grimaced hoping our cover wouldn’t be blown to Risty. Rogue quickly pushed Risty out of the house after that, and came back in to be lectured by Professor Xavier about guests. She didn’t feel too happy, and that I could just tell by her face. As she walked up the stairs she made a quick glare at Jean.
“He doesn’t treat me any different than you.” I heard Jean say before I saw Rogue’s eyes almost bulge out of their sockets. Rogue’s embarrassment shot at me like a bullet, but there was another emotion that I was more concerned about after Rogue stormed off. Jean seemed a bit surprised and afterwards very confused. I wanted to ask her why, but I decided it was best to leave now. I heard the Professor kindly ask me to in my head.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That morning during breakfast Jean looked very tired and stressed. Something was not right with her. Even though she didn’t act like it, I could tell she was feeling uneasy around everyone. Rogue ignored Jean completely, got herself a bagel, and disappeared as quickly as she entered. She was still mad at Jean for entering her head last night.
“So what are you trying out for today Jean?” Kitty asked. Jean jumped slightly at her and was silent for a few moments. She looked at Kitty as if trying to determine whether it was really Kitty who said that or Kitty’s thoughts. Finally she replied, “I don’t know. Maybe the long jump.” Jean kept her answer short and simple.
“You riding with me Jean?” Scott asked. Jean’s uneasy feeling increased as she explained to Scott that she was going with Duncan.
“What?!” Scott said in anger slamming his fist on the table. Jean’s uneasiness was then replaced with defensiveness.
“I promised Duncan I would go with him to the track and field tryouts.” She replied eating a muffin. Scott opened his mouth to rebut but he could think of nothing. There was silence the rest of the morning. I did not dare speak for fear of losing my temper like Scott almost did. Even though he was quiet I could feel his anger pulsating like and aura around him. I excused myself from the table earlier than usual unable to bear Scott’s anger and Jean’s uneasy and jumpy feelings. By the time I had changed out of my pajamas and into normal everyday clothing, Jean had taken off with Duncan, and Scott with Kitty.
I sat in my room thinking about Jean and the way she had been acting as of lately. I dove into my many feelings trying to pick out the ones that I found were Jean’s. I analyzed each one for a rather long time. Why was Jean acting so weird? Jumpity, uneasy, weak, confused, and- then it hit me. Jean was struggling with something. Most likely she was struggling with her powers. That had to be the answer right? Why else would she enter Rogue’s mind without permission last night? Or why she mentioned that she couldn’t hear herself think yesterday morning at the school assembly? Of course this was all in my head and I could never know for sure unless I asked Jean herself. However there was no time to think anymore after that because I felt a low rumble beneath my bedroom floor. That was soon followed by the Professor entering my head announcing that all X-Men should suit up and report to the common room elevator immediately because Jean was in trouble. I obeyed and arrived just in time.
The Professor, Logan, and Scott all emerged from the elevator. The Professor was wiping his forehead, Scott’s clothes had rips in it, and Logan was unharmed.
“Is Jean all right?” Kitty asked. The Professor said in a serious tone that she was not. He explained that her powers were out of control and that she could not control them. Two points for me for guessing it correctly. After discussing it we decided the best option was to have Rogue drain Jean of her powers. The Professor immediately disliked the idea, as did I. “You think you could handle the emotions?” I asked Rogue but she did not reply.
“We don’t have too many options, Charles.” Logan said and the Professor had no choice but to give in.
We made our way in and right away I was bombarded with a dissection pan. Talk about jumping in feet first.
“Clock’s running. Let’s move!” I heard the command from Scott.
I used what wind power I could against Jean’s telekinesis. Her powers were strong. I never knew the girl had such power in her. I stared at her floating body in the midst of all the debris. A sense of chaotic feeling entered my mind and I used it to fuel my power. Without thinking I flew off and swooped Rogue up in my arms. “Hang on. I’m flying ya in.” I said over the whistling of my wind. The closer I got to Jean however the harder it was for me to push against her telekinetic field she had around herself. A small table cam in contact with my face and it sent us flying back to start. I lay there trying to shake off the headache that was starting to come. Rogue went ahead dodging debris and getting close again. This time Scott came to her protection and blasted away some of the debris. I got up again and stood next to the Professor this time helping to keep the debris away from him. I watched as Scott worked to blow the debris into bits. Kurt, who was now beside me, watched in terror.
“Kurt, port Rogue in. It’s the only way to get past her telekinetic field.” The Professor commanded. A second later Kurt was gone and in front of Rogue. He ported her off and next to Jean before being thrown back. I caught him and we went flying back a few feet. We watched as Rogue struggled to make her way to Jean. The emotions, oh the emotions I was feeling now. I had never felt them so powerful and intense as the time I had first discovered I had empathy. Poor Jean floated in the air. The chaos in her mind was increasing every second as I watched Rogue getting closer and closer. Jean was losing her control, and I felt it so strong that if it were a smell it would completely burn my nose away. I shut my eyes tight trying to control it. I felt it starting to take over in my head as if a new personality was trying to emerge from within me.
”Jean, I know how you’re feeling right now. Lost…confused… scared. Please fight it. I’m fighting with you. I can’t win if you don’t help fight with me. Don’t loose who you are, or I might loose myself.” I tried to send her that message telepathically, but I doubt it reached her. I laid there on my knees, cape fluttering violently, my hands rubbing against my temples, and watched as a helpless Jean continued to throw debris everywhere. It appeared as if Rogue was not getting any close to Jean and the hope of helping Jean might soon fail. What would happen if we could not get Jean back? She could harm us, or worse innocent people. That was not like Jean. She was a role model and Miss Perfect. But in my eyes she was a normal teenager going through problems just like everyone else. This was just a very big problem that needed her friends to help her through it. Jean was always there for us, it was time we were there for her.
Then a glimpse of hope came. Rogue succeeded in touching Jean with the tip of her fingers. Suddenly I felt taken back as the terrible emotions switched from Jean to Rogue. I watched as Rogue and Scott communicated and suddenly with a burst of energy Jean regained control of herself. Everything immediately stopped in mid air and dropped. There was the loud clanking of metal against concrete, and a body hitting the ground. I breathed a sigh of relief. Jean had returned and Scott went rushing to her side. I smiled as I felt him more relieved then I was to see that Jean had regained control. I looked over at Rogue with her head drooping down. I walked over to her and placed my hand on her shoulder. Jean slowly gained consciousness and I watched her come back to life. It was as if she was reborn again.
Someone who may not know Jean like I do would see her as perfect, but behind that mask she is just your average teenager going through life’s problems like everyone else.
