Warming Up

((From the Park. Whee, I dunno what t do, so I'm sorry if this is short ;;)

It seemed like forever had gone by since Jaden had last visited the cafe', even though the reality of it was he had been there earlier on in the morning. It made no differece though, time was a trivial thing to Jaden, and coffee was always good to have.

He happily bounded into the little cafe' smiling around the room to see if he knew anyone, then turning back to see if Marienna was still there. Seeing nobody he knew, not even that pretty blue haired waitress, he toddled up to the counter to read the menu, fully aware of of the intersted looks he was getting due to his lack of warm attire. People were such funny little things.

"Mary-anna! They have, ummmmm Chai tea, do you like that stuff? It's pretty popular. Should I order that for you? Oh um, wheeyeas, I know what I want!" he half yelled and asked Marienna. He smiled brightly at her, then turned back to the counter, "I'll have a macho freeeeeeze pleeeeeeease!"

Upon entering the Cafe', Marienna quickly surveyed her surroundings. She had been here before; though not often. It seemed everyone always met with their friends here and she had no friends to meet with, so she thought it not all that necessary that she come. Though she had met with Ramone here a couple of times, that was the extent of her human contacts.

When they approached the counter, Marienna looked around at the other people in the cafe'. They all seemed to be looking strangely at them; or perhaps it was just her imagination playing a stupid trick on her. She shrugged it off and looked up at the sign behind the counter. She listened to Jaden for a moment and tilted her head to the side, contemplating the decision.

"Eh, Chai tea's alright but it's never been my thing... I think I'd rather have hot chocolate with extra whip cream." She smiled at Jaden.

Jaden nodded his agreement with Marienna before turning back to the person at the register. "Can I also get a hot chocolate with extra whipped cream? Please? THANK YOU!" Jaden hollared the last part and smiled 'extra pretty', as he called it. Then he checked around the cafe' again to look for an empty table. Spotting one, he made a pleased squeak noise and trotted over to it.

After a second he trotted back over to whever Marienna might have ended up in the short time he was gone, "Oh yes, I almost forgot! This place, um, sometimes they bring the coffee, sometimes there's a waitress, and sometimes there's nobody doing anything so you gotta get stuff yourself. It's a confusing thing, I think, so I'm just gonna assume they'll bring it, wanna go over to that table?" Jaden asked as he randomly fidgeted with his nails. Maybe there were too many people around, or maybe those losers turned up the heat. Either way, Jaden was starting to feel itchy.

Marienna blushed lightly when he smiled at her. Suddenly, an interesting thought came to her mind,
Why is he being so nice to me, anyway? I mean... I don't want to be too trusting or anything and- wait, stop. It's no big deal; you're just havin' a drink at the cafe'... not a big deal. Besides, I could probably kick his ass if I needed to.

She shook her head to return from her conversation with herself and turned to Jaden, who had trotted away and returned to her side.
"Yeah sure, let's go." she said with a smile.
She noticed Jaden feeling physically uncomfortable and bit her lip. As she walked towards the table he had pointed out, she turned to him.
"Are you OK, Jaden?" she said sympathetically, "Are you too warm or something?"

The chair was wobbly and made a creaky noise when Jaden settled himself into. That only amused the blonde, so he did it several times over and laughed until he felt a few eyeballs on him and stopped. Not because people were staring though, oh no, but because Jaden decided he needed to seriously ponder over the taste of eyeballs. He assumed they'd be salty, like tears, but then they also came in many colors, like candy. The funny 'advanced humans' with the color changing eyes probably had to best flavors over all. Maybe eyeballs were like salty candy, Jaden didn't know, and he couldn't lick his own eye to prove anything, so he'd have to settle for somebody else's eyes. Not this moment though, cuz right now he was occupied with Marienna.

Realizing that he had started to stare blankly at the table while pondering eye flavors, Jaden snapped his head up and stared ate Marienna. A moment later he grinned and started to suck down his coffee, making obnoxious slurping noises as he did so in order to hopefully make some people leave. It was too warm, and these people should be out Christmas shopping or something stupid along those lines, not fucking up the nice air of the cafe. The people in the table over were espicially annoying, stupid teenie girls talking about stupid stuff, and he knew he could wear their clothes better. Idiots. Lucky for them they decided Jaden was 'so totally immature' and left.

Satisfied with himself, Jaden returned his attention back to Marienna, "No, I'm fine right now, I'll just step outside if it gets too much. No worries at all, kaypasa? OH! I think I'm going to speak in song lyrics now! Hello there, the angel from my nightmare the shadow in the background of the morgue," Jaden replied, in his usual manner, to Marienna's prior questions, making sure to sound completely conversational while using song lyrics.

Marienna watched Jaden fool around with his chair as she sat across from him at the table. She ed her head to one side and watched him, periodically taking a sip from her hot chocolate.
This guy is great! It's like he doesn't even realize how funny he is... Man, I could hang out with him all the time and never tire of it...

She looked to the table next to them and saw the girls sitting there. Marienna found them annoying. It was as if their lives were just so perfect and the biggest crisis or conflict was a 11 o'clock curfew. That was just the way they looked to her. She had a sudden urge to say something obnoxious and resisted the temptation. There was no need to spoil the good time she was having; on second thought it could make the evening even more enjoyable. Just as she was about to open her mouth and speak, however, the girls became obviously disturbed by Jaden's behavior and stood from their table.
Now she was definitely annoyed, and the urge to tell off a group of vally-bitches was rising to a definite high. Once again, however, she chose to remain where she was and leave them be. The cafe' would have a better environment with them gone and there was no need to get herself thrown out for an outburst.

Turning to Jaden one again, Marienna rolled her eyes. "Don't people like that just get on your nerves? I have half a mind ta slap that pretty face, ya know? Jesus..."
She sighed and leaned back in her seat. "Oh well... I'll get over it soon enough I should think."

She listened to Jaden speak in song lyrics and began to relax a little. His talking seemed to take her mind off her annoyance with aforementioned s. She leaned her elbow on the table and rested her chin in the palm of her hand. The hot chocolate directly below her head emitted a fragrance that rose to her nose and was delightful to her senses.
"I guess the real challenge of speaking in song lyrics is seeing how long you can keep it up." She smiled at him and raised her eyebrows.

It occured to Jaden after only a few moments that speaking only in song lyrics would be difficult. It was sad really, he had such an extensive amount of memory dedicated to memorizing the words to songs, and yet it seemed to prove completely useless as he had a habit of getting only one song stuck in his head at a time. He was currently having that problem now, with a Cher song no less.

Not knowing what else to say about those girls, since he didn't really care about them one way or the other, Jaden simply shrugged and worked with what he currently had, "If I could turn back time I'd give it all to you." Satisfied with that response, Jaden proceeded to fidget. He was startig to get bored again, and while the air around them was a bit cooler, Jaden was still feeling a bit too warm. After a while Jaden thumped his hand on the table to gain Marienna's attention, then made various gestures indicating that he was going to step outside for a minute.

"It's getting hot in here, so take off all your clothes," he muttered with a slight grin, then stood up to make his short term exit.

Marienna sighed deeply and sat back in her seat, eyes on Jaden. He seemed to be struggling in speaking only in song lyrics and she found it rather sad.
"Good luck to ya, man. I wouldn't be able to do it; I don't listen to enough music lately." she said with a shrug.
She cleared her throat and took another sip of her drink, letting her eyes travel about the cafe'. There weren't very many people there really; a few towards the enterance and a couple towards the back, but not many.

When Jaden thumped his hand on the table, Marienna's eyes instantly returned to his face. She gathered that he was going to step out and nodded in agreement. It was slightly boring in here.
She finished off the last couple drinks of her hot chocolate and set the cup back on the table, rising to her feet with Jaden.
She laughed at his last comment and walked to the door with an amused grin on her face. Pushing open the door, she stood back and held it open for Jaden.
"After you?" she said.

Making a spaztic squeak noise and involuntarily twitching, Jaden dashed out out of door that Marienna was holding for him and stopped himself at the edge of the sidewalk. He didn't think she would have wanted to follow him outside, but she did, and it perplexed him a bit. Not that he really cared one way or the either, he just assumed it would be too cold. Ah well, Jaden simply shrugged it off and bounced a little in place, trying to think of how to speak in song lyrics.

It took him little more then a minute to finally become bored with that idea, and so decided he could speak freely again.

"Right, I can't think of anything to do, and I don't have my ID on me, so I can't go get drinks, annnnd I think I wanna find Pez. Oh yes, definately that. Hey! Do you have a place to stay at all? Cuz, I think you could crash at our pad. Um, Wanda's bitchy, but I think the other people are either disinterested or are too unnerved to pick on girls that might kick their ass. Either way, I want to go find Pez now, and you're welcome to come with if you wanna," Jaden chattered on for a while, watching all the cars go by with great interest. The lights could sometimes hit a shiny car *just* so... Jaden sure wanted to be in those lights. It was sad though, Pez always got mad when he tried to get into one, with much yelling and 'are you fucking nuts? They could have hit you!' and such. Jaden never understood how lights could hit him, but he listened to Pez anyway.

Jaden did many things to make Pez happy. He sure missed him now.

Marienna walked out the door after Jaden and leaned back against the building from whence they came. It was still chili out of course, but the hot chocolate she just drank helped to keep her warm. She folded her arms infront of her chest to trap extra heat and watched Jaden mess around.
When he finally spoke again it wasn't in song lyrics; Marienna assumed he had tired of that idea.

"No, I don't really have a real place to stay... I crash with uh... friends... every now and then but I don't have an apartment or anything of my own, so... sure, I'll come with ya I guess... got nothin' better to do." She paused for a second, then continued. "Oh, and I got an I.D. if you want to get drinks on the way."

She reached back with one hand and scratched the back of her neck. She bit her lip, thinking about whether this was really a good idea or not.
Eh... as long as no one messes with me, I should be OK. Either way, I'm never gonna know if I don't check it out... so, why not...

Finally, she spoke again, "So, where to first Jaden?"

(whee, sorry, been busy.)

"I think, sometimes in general coherently but usually not. Anyway, I think we could go back to the house first, cuz that's where Pez should be. After that, you can have my room, yeah, that works, I don't use it much. ANYWAY if Pez isn't there, then I must have an searching adventure," Jaden informed Marienna of his current future plans. Of course, that was always subject to change, but Jaden was pretty sure he wanted to find Pez. Drinks were pretty tempting though...

Jaden shook his head, nope, no, naw, Jaden liked his liquor well enough, but he had no interest in going without Pez. Besides, that usually pissed the other boy off, especially if Jaden ended up forgetting himself and went making out with people. No, Jaden wouldn't do that, angry Pez made him very sad. So did roadkill, but that was a differnet matter.

"Oh yeah, no thanks on the drinks, I don't feel like be a whore today. Did you ever get a song in your head, and then it wouldn't go away and then it, um, took over all of your thoughts? I hate when that happens," Jaden rambled quickly before taking a twirl on his heels and trotting away to the boarding house.

((It's all good; this weekend's been a bit more than hectic for me ))

Marienna found herself wondering a few things about her new friend. Instead of trying to guess all night she decided it would be best to simply ask him. It didn't seem he would mind at any rate.
"Well, I don't know who Pez is... but I'd be glad to go on that searching adventure with you if need be." She smiled at him, "And that's really nice of you to let me use your room, Jaden. I mean, seriously, if I saw me hangin' around I probably wouldn't even talk to me... let-alone let me have my room... if I had one that is... OK, I'm done rambling now!" She mentally kicked herself for being such an idiot.

She shifted her weight from one foot to the other and back again, breathing in the chili night air. While it chilled her badly and gave her goose-bumps, it felt strangely good as she breathed it. Just another one of those odd blessings of nature.
She listened to Jaden speak again and then responded with a shrug, "Well... I think the last time that happened was maybe about... a year ago? Yeah, I was in JDC and almost got my ass kicked 'cause I was hummin' some stupid Thai children's song." She chuckled to herself for a moment, "It was actually sort of funny."

Marienna saw that Jaden apparently wanted to get going and she couldn't really blame him. However, she had different motives. No matter how enjoyable the air was in her lungs it wasn't all that great anywhere else; she was now officially cold.
She secured her knapsack to her shoulders and followed Jaden down the street.
