So, I was thinking I could get to work on this. I just don't have a music-making program. Simp might have one though, I'll ask him to hook it up.

Soo, you are implying that we are making our own music?
Yikes, maybe we will make a few tunes, maybe themes for custom characters and such, but we still should use majority of the FE music.

Well, just a few smile.gif. Nothing special, just want to try my hand at it. If we don't like it (which we probably will) we just won't add it.

Well, a free program for making .MIDI's is Anvil Studios. I used to have it, it worked really well. MP3 making programs are allot more in depth and difficult and I do not recommend them. I would say you should DL Anvil Studios

One problem, Jyro. After keeping the engine sample long enough, the music stops. Is that supposed to happen as its not done yet?

Yes, I am aware of that, I have to look up and configure the DLL so that it loops, I think I need to use another function. But I will fix it.

On slower computers, the chiptunes slow down the frame rate. It's sad, I know, but I think I will have an option that you can choose between Midis or the chiptunes, becouse Midi files are really really small, and I have all the Fire Emblem songs as Midis too.

Midis? 0_0 Do we have to use midis? Can't we include a few .wav files too?

Reason being is because I know some tunes that would suit this game so perfectly from a game I know called Castle Fantasia. Also, .wav files are much higher quality than .midis.

On the other hand, .wav files are larger in size than midis. What do you think? A few .wav files in the music collection?

.wav files are meant to be for short sound clips, like sound effects. if it is a full song, then I will transfer the format into .mp3. they will be the same size as .wav, but in general, its a totally different type of sound. Midis are absolutely tiny in size, and very easy to make and play. mp3's are getting into the megabytes, and it will start to take up allot of space. Chiptunes are also very small in size, but it takes allot to play them, because its being emulated as if its the gameboy playing them.

Is space an issue? happy.gif; In my opinion, good games are always lots of megabytes.

Each of the tunes I have in mind are about 1:15 long-- about the same length as the overworld Fire Emblem themes. Several are about 7 megabytes.

If no, I'll look for some simple midi-maker. I have a little music background.

7 megabytes is way too big, people wont download the game if its going to be that big.

So, by the time the game is finished, how large do you estimate it will be?

I'd add that the FE7 ROM is around 16-20 MB (dependign on version) and people are generally fine with that.

If its worth it people will download it, especially in an era with so much abundant high-speed internet anything below 50 MB is pretty reach able. (the same size as a few Youtube clips, or a compressed anime episode)

I agree with Generic Hero Man. The finished game will be much larger than a GBA game. The map I'm making here is almost 10 megabytes.

Truthfully, if our game looks like "crap", then our game isn't going to get many players regardless of how large it is. On the other hand, if our game looks like it could be commercial quality, players will overlook the size. Players also (from my experience) recognize a game's quality by how large it is. If you didn't notice, Jyro, people actually pay twenty bucks to play games that are 5 megabytes large (GBA cartridges).

With this note, I really think we should add 2-3 high quality tracks. Just a few. Like in the title screen, world map, and the preparations area. Good music is really, really important for the image of a game, in my opinion.
