I think we have some hard decisions to make.
1)-Do we go along with the NHL CBA rules in this league? 2)-is our cap going to work the same way? 3)-since no $$$ are going to go towards any players we need to get rid of to fit under the cap, do we need to just release players? 4)-should we do a waiver draft? 5)-how are we going to do our 2005 Entry draft with no way to do a weighted lottery? 6)-for goalies, I assume we are going to use shoot out wins/loses the same as ties? 7)-and is there anything else that I am missing that we may need to address? |

1)-I think to a certain extent we should. I mean there are going to be rules we cannot duplicate or very tough to simulate (i.e. defined team by team revenues to derive a cap) but I think we should give it a shot.
2)-As a starting point I think we should assume the team max ($39M) and then try to figure out a way to incorporate a "success measure" to adjust down from that. If that's possible... 3)-Apparently the NHL is going to give its teams about 10 days to drop guys without it counting toward the cap (after it would count)... do we do the same? Will timing be an issue? 4)-Probably necessary 5)-Definitely need to figure out a way to handle this 6)-Another topic to discuss (I hate this type of rule but maybe an extra .5 pt/pt for the winning goalie?) |

1) I don't know.
2) We should probably adjust to 39M, if that's what they sign on. It'd be easy enough to figure out the rolled back salaries if that's not what report anyway. 3) yes 4) yes 5) We could either just use the order that the NHL uses, or just randomize it ourselves. 6) probably, but it's 7am right now. |

since their cap includes bonuses i think maybe just make our cap roll back 24%
depending on out come some sort of waiver draft or dispersal or even both the entry draft we could do a few things reverse from our draft a new copltly random we could link each of our teams to its real counterpart and thats how we end up and for points it is too early for me to put real thought to it but im sure the fine minds here will have a good debate and we will find a solution |

I say we go with the new salary - the rollback should help most teams.
As far as releasing players, many players released by their NHL teams may re-sign for lower salaries - I don't think many teams would want to dump players and then find out their real salaries will be much lower....but releasing players should be up to the individual GM's. We should use the draft randomizer for the 2005 draft - I can't think of a fairer way. |

Lets go with the $39M cap and take the rollback (76% of our old $50M cap is $38M anyway... most of us should be good to go).
Considering we didn't have a season & a number of players are going to be staying in Europe, I think we should hold have teams start waiving any players they don't want right away. I don't know if we'll be able to organize a waiver draft... but perhaps waived players automatically become UFAs. |

I agree about using 39mil. Salaries listed on the NHLPA site should reflect the 24% rollback.
I also think it's a good idea to let people release any players they want to. We could then have a short, quick, roster refilling draft of like 3-5 rounds. This could include any remaining FAs and the 2005 Entry draft players. (In other words, just do the entry and regular draft together.) That'd keep it simple and sweet and would allow us to finish up and be ready for the season in just a couple weeks tops. |
