Title: Music?

CloudyObsession - June 12, 2008 08:51 PM (GMT)
What kind of music do you like?

To be frank, there's not a lot of music I don't like. Rap and Country are my two big no-nos, but other than that, I'll pretty much listen to anything. A lot of my music library is random songs I heard a few times and decided I had to have. The genres I listen to the most are rock, hard rock/heavy metal, progressive metal, techno/electronica/house/lounge/trance/dance/beat/club/synthpop/whatever, indie rock, and JRock.

Some of my favourite bands:
The Black Mages, Guns N' Roses, Gackt, Freezepop, Daft Punk, Shiny Toy Guns, The Beatles, Rage Against the Machine, The Killers, L'arc~en~Ciel, Asian Kung-Fu Generation, Queen, Explosions in the Sky, Orange Range, Cheap Trick, Coldplay, Utada, "Weird Al" Yankovic, and Panic! at the Disco.

There's a few more than that, but those are all that came to mind.

I don't really like one particular kind of music over another. But if you don't mind, I'll post music videos here, as such:

Handlebars

CloudyObsession - June 12, 2008 09:05 PM (GMT)
That was ineresting.

At first I thought it was just randomness, but I liked the message later on.

Music is my obsession, point blank. If you can touch, tap, exhale through, strum, or strike an object, and it makes a sound, I'm the bored fucker making music with it.

As far as genre, I have one favorite kind: Music. All kinds. While some rap songs will get me steppin' it out, at the same time, I can jam some Garth, or crank some Megadeth.

So, yeah. Music is my favorite kind of music.

But don't get me wrong. Every genre; hell, every band in existence has at least one song I can't stand.
That being said... I'ma go try to rattle my car apart.

CloudyObsession - June 13, 2008 02:55 AM (GMT)
........you have fun with that..............

My musical tastes are rather eclectic, but music remains a major part of my life.

But...here's my favorite song by my favorite band...

Ah NIN.

I have a friend you would get along with well.

Brownmccoy - June 13, 2008 06:38 AM (GMT)
My style of music is... a little varied.

My favorite bands are Disturbed, Avenged Sevenfold, Sonata Arctica and, recently, Dream Theatre.

I also listen to Linkin park, Three Days Grace, Jimmy Eat World, Billy Klippert, Billy Talent, Coheed and Cambria, Dragonforce, Paul Stanley, Thrice and more.

On top of that I also listen to some 'classical' style music, like the soundtracks to halo, Team America (The music that isn't aimed to be funny is actually incredible). I also listen to some rap, but none of that 'gangsta rap' which has such little substance and talent that makes me want to do whatever the equivalent of 'gouging my eyes out' is for hearing.

Those sites no longer exist....

I'm a big fan of Soundtracks. They make up a large part of my music collection.

Also, three bands I forgot to list: Dragonforce, Heart, and Buckethead.

NecroWolfExPaladin - June 14, 2008 01:53 AM (GMT)
I basically like anything that isn't 50% about cursing or sex with little to no other value to it. That almost completely removes all of rap. X-P

Pretty much the same... xept for country and jazz... And soft rock.

CloudyObsession - June 14, 2008 02:46 AM (GMT)
How soft is too soft? Like Coldplay soft or Air Supply soft?

I have always preferred a good instrumental, something clean and mathematical. Techno and Classical are about the only genres you can find things that consistantly fit this, although I have found more than a few video game compositions I really enjoy.

My distaste for vocal focused music comes from a problem I have with my ears that makes it hard for me to distinguish words from background noise (which, if you meet me in person, makes it seem like I'm deaf when I'm somewhere with a lot of white noise like a bus or next to an air conditioner) Because of this, I can almost never make out the words of a song, and it just sounds like a lot of mumbling. And to be blunt, when you take the words out of most modern music, most of it seems to be a load of crap.

BlueTiger - June 15, 2008 12:49 AM (GMT)
While I don't like one genre of music over the other, I actually pick my music basied on how much I like the lyrics (you are what you listen to). But that is tough to do with classical, techno, and jazz. I'm a little squimish about them, but I tend to like them once I listen to them a few times.

Anyway, point is, the reason why Handlebars is my current favorite is because I like the lyrics. Not to mention the video that goes with it is great X3

Koebi - June 15, 2008 01:47 AM (GMT)
I listen to just about anything, minus most country and rap. Pretty much anything that sounds good, has a nice beat, feels epic, or is energetic in general is good for me. I have a lot of Daft Punk, Maroon 5, Blue Man Group, musical soundtracks.. lots. XD

My favorite new additions to my iTunes've been the orchestral and fusion jazz arrangements of the Phoenix Wright soundtracks. :3

Queens of the Stone Age is my musical obsession. I also like Soundgarden (and just about everything else grunge), and by extension Chris Cornell and Audioslave. Lately I have really been grooving on NIN's With Teeth album, although I don't much care for most of their older work.

I like QOTSA. I need to really sit down and absorb more of their material though.

I saw them live when they opened for NIN a couple years ago.

Josh Homme's other band, The Eagles of Death Metal, is also good.

If you sit down and listen to Songs for the Deaf, which is their most widely-appreciable album in a commercial sense, you need to listen to it from end-to-end with no stopping or skipping. Its presentation is very linear, and the interludes between songs are sometimes very amusing. The other albums you can play mix and match with and it won't affect the overall experience much, although Lullabies to Paralyze also likes being listened to in order.

Firstly; the new coldplay album. I bought it yesterday and it's good! The pre-release, Violet hill remains top of my Coldplay songs playlist, tho. Also, Lemonjelly, Bloc Party, Pull Tiger Tail, Artic Monkeys and Raiohead also feature prominently among my most listened to songs.

Oh, and Crystal Castles. XD

I want Viva la Vida so bad. It only comes out in North America on the 17th.

I haven't heard anything from the new Coldplay album. I was a bit underwhelmed with the last one, but it was still ok.

I got a little excited though when I heard Brian Eno produced the new one.

CloudyObsession - June 15, 2008 07:52 PM (GMT)
Yeah, X and Y wasn't as good as the first two. But I heard some stuff from the new album and I really liked what I heard. It's no Rush of Blood to the Head, but it's still pretty good.

You... You're just an epic... I dunno. You're more than a person... You can't be a person... You come near Chuck Norris... Seriously. No matter how many remixes I hear of that song, I keep listening to them. It's just... Wow.

RoruArcher - June 21, 2008 09:50 AM (GMT)
Hrm... I listen to everything except rap. For every major artist I've ever liked, I can think of at least 5 songs off the top of my head by the same artist that I hate. I have a playlist with classical music, techno, metal (of many bands and varieties), disney movie soundtracks, Jpop, Jrock, alternative rock, and a dozen songs by Jonathan Coulton on it that I keep on shuffle-repeat playlist.

Every once in a while I throw in new songs and take out ones that I've gotten bored of, but that's pretty much what I listen to.

I don't really have a favorite artist for more than a day after I've discovered the artist in question. My musical tastes are... eclectic, to say the least. >_>'

... and yeah, I have 4 mixes of the Tetris theme song too.
