Holy crap? Is it march already? I don't want another birthday, I haven't even accepted the last one yet...

Google seems to think I'm 18-25, can I just go with what Google says?

Oh, and it's an update.

A March update T T

Happy birthday on the 12th Rae.

http://dissonance.comicgenesis.com/ Dissonance is up! Last update before my *shudder* Birthday...

I must have been drunk when I storyboarded this (which is weird because I don't drink) because when I actually went to put all the inks together I realised none of what I had drawn made any sense. I managed to cut and paste and rearrange everything as best I could but there's still a couple of details I'm not happy with. In any case, The argument continues. This exchange should only last about one more comic before we can get back to a little more Pandora interaction.

Also, two more peices of news: If you or anybody you know is going to be in the Toronto area March 16-18th, I could use a hand at Furnal Equinox on Saturday March 17th. I'll be wearing a rather bulky costume with slightly limited visibility and tactile prowess, so I could use somebody to help me around the convention center, talk to people for me, and hand out stickers. So if you know anybody interested in helping out a comic artist, please give me an email at rae.bruner@gmail.com

And one last thing, I've been working on and off developing a brand new idea (not related to Faulty Logic or Dissonance in the slightest.) I don't want to give anything away, but I'm preparing a primer that I will be sharing at the end of the month.

Death Drak - March 10, 2012 02:01 PM (GMT)
Is it saying "Dandora"?
Because that is what it looks like to me...

Wonderdummy - March 10, 2012 07:14 PM (GMT)
To be fair, /p/ is supposed to be one of the harder sounds to make even having a regular human mouth to make them with. As far as we can tell, she's completely skipped straight from mute to words without any "Buh buh buh buh..." phase. I think we can cut her a little slack on this one.

Rae - March 11, 2012 07:04 AM (GMT)
News update about my birthday and a donation drive and maybe a little secret if you look hard enough.

Wonderdummy - March 12, 2012 04:08 PM (GMT)
Welp... its a... thing...

It looks like its made from various Dissonance strips with photoshop sliders set to 'pink'.

... but I could be wrong crazy

Caber - March 14, 2012 02:19 AM (GMT)
Happy birthday!(sorry for being late) <3

Rae - March 15, 2012 09:16 PM (GMT)
A Friday update on a Thursday night? What Sorcery is this!?

They likely have less rights because they were bred for science.

Wonderdummy - March 15, 2012 11:04 PM (GMT)
Rae, I'd think you of all people would be aware of the dangers of meddling with the time stream..

((Wibbly wobbly timey wimey ball of... stuff))

El Nerdo Loco - March 17, 2012 06:09 AM (GMT)
Oh, time manipulation and British television. That explains why there is a new Red Dwarf series coming up. I knew something must have gone wrong, and Rae is apparently partly to blame.

Rae - March 20, 2012 02:50 AM (GMT)
Not me! *hides the Time Furby* I haven't been secretly going back in time to patent things before they were invented! No sir!

Also, apologies for the lack of monday update. I was originally planning to do it today and sneak it up before it was officially late but doing my computer assignment took more time than I originally planned to allow for it. I have given up the fight at only about 75% completion and now I have to get ready for bed for early class. > <

The short version is I think you'll have to wait until Friday to see the next dissonance update.

Rae - March 23, 2012 11:10 PM (GMT)
It's up! Sorry for Monday. See you again next week!

PhantomFox - March 24, 2012 04:32 AM (GMT)
Is the mouth trying to escape from her face a stylistic choice? It's probably a personal thing, but it looks kinda silly to me, and it's draining the tension some.

It's how I like to draw exaggerated expressions. At first I didn't want to include them in Dissonance when I came from Faulty Logic, but I'm finding I really miss stretching reality just a bit, so I use them every so often in Dissonance too.

http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7641964/ Whoops! I just accidentally pasted what was in my clipboard into this forum post! How silly of me, now I have to go find the delete key, which is a shame because I so often get it confused with the post button...

El Nerdo Loco - March 24, 2012 07:09 AM (GMT)
So, is this video game somehow related to this upcoming project you have mentioned?

Also, New Dissonance! Hooray!

El Nerdo Loco - March 26, 2012 06:44 AM (GMT)
Yeesh... This is an update that will either generate a ton of discussion or none at all. I am never sure how to discuss these kinds of faith specific positions without running a risk of seeming disrespectful. In real life, I have to tailor it to what the person I am talking to is comfortable with. All I can say is that people holding fundamentalist positions like Sarah's parents were almost unheard of when I lived in Maine. Where I live now however, I know two people with similar backgrounds to Sarah's. One who no longer speaks with his parents and changed churches, and another who thinks of himself as a cured homosexual. I like to think religiously based homophobia is a minority position even here in Arizona, but it is still pretty easy to find. We almost banned gay marriage in our constitution along with California. The vote was practically a 50/50 split.

Is this kind of thing at all common in Canada?

Rae - March 26, 2012 05:14 PM (GMT)
In Canada, at least around Southern Ontario, No. Bible Thumping is not common, however homosexuality is far from being completely "accepted". Although I know a good number of gay people who are on fairly good terms with their parents, there are some who are not.

Sarah's parents are not meant to represent the "normal" religeous viewpoint. I don't believe being a Christian goes hand in hand with homophobia. Sarah's experience is meant to contrast James's who actually grew up with a healthy version of Christian values.

El Nerdo Loco - March 26, 2012 06:32 PM (GMT)
Yes. I never meant to imply homophobia and Christianity go hand in hand. I know there is no shortage of arguments saying any kind of discrimination is actually contrary to the religion, and I think most people subscribe to that line of thought.

The contrary is probably heavily regional here in the US, and I am glad to see it is not as present where you are.

Death Drak - March 26, 2012 09:52 PM (GMT)
Is that Gen? Good to see that they have been together for a while.

PhantomFox - March 26, 2012 11:59 PM (GMT)
Just... be careful. Dealing with such subjects is a minefield sometimes, and people can and will jump to conclusions at any opportunity. I think the usual train of thought for such jumps goes 'Protagonists are the Good Guys. Good Guys Do Good Things. Author writes the Protagonists. Therefore the Author always believes what the Protagonists do are Good Things.' Or in short, people can interpret protagonists espousing beliefs they don't like as unwanted moralizing. Which can sometimes actually be the case where there is a Mary Sue Author Avatar smacking around a Strawman. Which is far too often given the amount of self indulgent bad webcomics out there. Thankfully this is not the case here.

I appreciate the warning, I'm trying to be mindful to make sure the comic comes across fair minded in general. That's why I made sure to include positive christian role models like Pastor Peter before I went ahead with this particular thread of the plot. However, I cannot guarantee that I will not offend people. Religeous controversy will be a more common theme as the comic continues on, and those not prepared to see their beliefs questioned by some of my characters may find such conflict uncomfortable. But ultimately, this was the whole goal of Dissonance, to really bring to the surface how much people really don't like being faced with the possibility they might be wrong.

Rae - March 27, 2012 12:34 AM (GMT)
Also, I can't tell you how glad I am to see posts with topics other than how cute Pandora is. (Not that I don't appreciate that she is such a beloved character) It's just nice to know that people do come to this comic for something besides Pandora. ^ ^

Wonderdummy - March 27, 2012 05:26 PM (GMT)
I for one, think the drama is a nice change of pace from all the hard sciences... but anyone who can't look past something like sexual orientation, especially for their own family, just makes me sad. They'll never know what they're missing...

On an unrelated note, Pandora is one adorable critter...

Caber - March 28, 2012 08:33 PM (GMT)
Gah, that last picture... I wish I could hug them both and tell em' it'll be okay, that things will get better.

Rae - March 30, 2012 03:23 AM (GMT)
Last update of March! Hopefully I'll remember to post a brand new thread with the next update. Hmm... the beginning of april, why does that seem so familiar?

El Nerdo Loco - March 30, 2012 05:55 AM (GMT)
I expect it is a two parter as well. There is a piece of information oddly not present in this comic which makes me think you have more up your sleeve.

tkzv - March 30, 2012 09:58 AM (GMT)
April Fools by Gen?

Her putting your name over the strip you draw is a giveaway. For those, who don't recognize her style at once.

Death Drak - March 30, 2012 11:11 AM (GMT)
This is so fake, I mean, just look at the art style. It is vastly different from how Rae normally draws.
Pandora's hair/mane is not the right style. Normally, it is smooth, but here it has rows.
And Sarah's hair, it is much more poofy and curly than it normally is.
The noses are pointed, compared to the usual curved look.
The ears have more definition to them than usual.
Jame's hair is different as well.

So either you are trying out a new style, unlikely, or this strip is an April fool's joke.

Wonderdummy - March 30, 2012 03:35 PM (GMT)
And I wanted to get a leg up on April fool's this year somehow, but what does it do... It goes and happens in March... Mere hours before I get a chance to field "Team Nooblord" in a serious vidja game tournament *grumble grumble*

((tkzv has it guys, other half at http://www.little-tales.com/ for anyone who doesn't already read it))

edit: sorry for spoiling it for the people who were just playing along with the shenanigans...

Rae - March 31, 2012 12:44 AM (GMT)
Yes, this non-canon update was provided by Genesis Whitmore at http://www.little-tales.com where you can find my half of the April Fool's trade. I hope you all have enjoyed it, you know I can't let an april fool's go by without rattling you all just a bit.

El Nerdo Loco - March 31, 2012 06:18 AM (GMT)
That is the information I was talking about. I had no idea who drew this.

Now that I do know though, I have to ask. Is the character in dissonance with the same name named after her?

No, that was a complete coincidence. I was not thinking of Ms Whitmore at all when I was naming Gen. I only realised it later and by then I had already updated the cast page with her name.
