Title: Speedrome Improvements
ColeTrickle51 - November 17, 2016 12:25 PM (GMT)
Since racing season is no longer upon us I am getting bored and thought this would be a good topic of discussion. What improvements would you like to see made by the new Speedrome ownership? I feel like it would be nice to see the perspective of the fans as well as some of the drivers. I'm sure Kevin Garrigus has a master plan, but maybe someone will bring something to light that he hasn't already thought of.
-Previous ownership took care of resurfacing the track so it should be good unless I hear different from one of the actual drivers.
-My biggest thing would be facility upgrades such as stands and bathrooms. People always complain about the weekly cost to get in is to high, but myself as a consumer wouldn't have a problem paying the price if the facility has better up keep. Under the last ownership the attention to detail went to the wayside, and the track just looks plain dead. As far as the bathroom goes, I am a guy so I don't really care where I have to pee. With that being said the saying goes "happy wife, happy life". She is absolutely appalled by the constant state of the women's restroom so much that she really only comes out a couple times a year.
-The next point would be the concessions. Like I mentioned above people complain about the high prices, but as a consumer I don't mind the prices if the quality is there. Last year it seemed like week after week they would run out of food and beer. That is literally leaving money on the table because everyone knows the profit margin on concessions is high.
-Run the track and all the shows with integrity. Do not show favoritism to any driver or team, and don't be afraid to make the tough decisions. Yes it may upset a couple drivers, but if you are fair across the board they will end up coming back.
Just my .02 as a fan.

New grandstands all the way around the track like the old days, Block wall like the sportsdrome, Pave all the pits, I guess new bathrooms, and new track and parking lot lighting. It should look like Bowman Gray stadium after all it is the home of the "World Figure 8 Championship".

Its a big investment to upgrade but the Speedrome is on track to be the facility worthy of World Class Racing.
The new owners are all in and they aren't waiting until spring. to get ready for the new Spring 90 minute.. Can I buy my tickets yet? Sounds like a great Christmas present Santa!
Just a Spect8ors opinion

The track has made a post about how they have already started working on the south end bathrooms. This is the thing I was going to mention was the fact that they need to just do some upgrading of the facility. Just to make it look more attractive and give it a more welcoming feel should go a long way. Most people realize at this point that the place is old and rundown. So if they spruce it up with things like improving the restrooms, new fencing, new boards around the track, fresh paint, better concessions and a more friendly atmosphere, i think the place will see an increase in attendance.

Really parking lot lighting that's the least of worries 2nd tthe original scoreboard at the Speedrome worked fine Joel missed on that one shoulda kept the one for lineup and people at the other side was able to see but he tried to get fancy 2 one of the Main issues when it comes to the upkeep WE as fans are no better I have seen them come fix a fence twice in one night and some ADULT went right threw the same place the 3rd time the police had to stop him so half of our problems is us

Here is a picture and a statement from the Speedrome about them working on the transition areas around the track. Pretty cool.
Not only is the Speedrome culture going thru a transition, but so are the track transitions. The transitions from the infield Figure 8 course to the oval have been dug out for replacement. This will make the areas much smoother and stronger for the great Figure 8 stars to show their skills in 2017 and beyond.

The track also announced that they are repairing some of the walkways around the track including the walkway directly in front of the main grandstand.

Today's news release about tires:
While progress continues on the rebirth of the facility, the freshest news item literally revolves around racing in the premier classes. The Indianapolis Speedrome is excited to announce a deal struck this week with Hoosier to be the track's sole racing tire supplier. "There is a 3-year deal with the Indianapolis Speedrome", stated Hoosier's Irish Saunders. "And we are thrilled to be a part of the track's bright future".
"We were looking for a quality tire from a great company at a price point that we could pass savings along to our competitors", remarked new Speedrome owner Kevin Garrigus. "And Hoosier Tire hit all three qualifiers". Track President Jonathan Byrd added, "Hoosier Tire has been a prominent supplier to tracks and series around the world. My father and driver Rich Vogler had a great relationship with Hoosier Tire leading to many wins around the country. We are proud to have them a part of the Speedrome and its future".
Beginning in 2017, Hoosier will be the official tire for the Late Model and Stock season championship races as well as the Figure 8 Stock contests. Hoosier will also be the signature grip provider for September's 41st Annual World Championship 3-Hour Figure 8 Endurance Race and the inaugural Spring Shootout 90-Minute Figure 8 in May. Hoosier Tire mounting teams will be at those weekends as well. Tires will be exclusively sold at the Indianapolis Speedrome.

Today's news release:
It has been a very busy first month for the new ownership of the Indianapolis Speedrome. Many projects have taken the green flag in preparation for a new and exciting season. New track proprietor Kevin Garrigus led a wave of workers willing to get their hands dirty as the ink was still drying on the purchase. The next few years will be a transformation of the Speedrome not seen since the late-1970's and early-1980's when John and Susan Stiles began a stellar two decade run as caretakers of this classic short track.
It all begins with the basics. While there are a variety of cool things on the drawing board, the team showed pride that had been missing in recent years by gathering trash and picking up neglected debris to fill multiple dumpsters. Abandon trailers and old equipment deserted behind the backstretch were scraped. Saws and other cutting tools started tackling the task of removing overgrowth around the property and chopping down dead trees. Fencing has been removed that separated back field sections for the pit area reconfiguring and expansion. The property is beginning to shine.
A long disregarded focus were the restrooms. Even though winter weather is quickly moving in, the crew has managed to completely strip out all sinks, toilets, and patricians in preparing for a fresh new rebuild this spring. The south end concession stand is getting the full makeover care too after seasons of little attention. In addition, the pavement was literally pounded in several areas. Key transition runways connecting the famed Figure 8 course with the oval were cut out set for fresh concrete. Other roadway bad spots on the Speedrome property have also been prepped for resurfacing. This is just a sampling of projects. It is a great time to be a fan of the Home of the World Figure 8 as a new era approaches.

I drove through the lot this past weekend as they had crews there working.
Wow have they gutted the place.
All the chairs in the stands were removed with a complete clean-out around the track.
The south end concessions has been completely torn down.
The Spectator Ticket Office gone.
The Sno cone concessions gone.
Interior fences separating the spectators and pits have also been removed.
The fence and concrete barriers from the pit office all around the track to the back pit entrance has been completely removed.
All in what i expect is for repairing and resurfacing of the the areas surrounding the stands with fresh new barriers around the perimeter.
The oval track and transitions has a fresh new surface. Looks like the turns have a bit more bank to them too.
The pit areas also were gutted leaving what appeared to be just the Tech building and Pit Office.
Fresh gravel was spread expanding the pit area.
The west spectator parking and south spectator parking along Brookville had fresh gravel base as well.
New exterior gates by the pit entrance were being prepped for installation.
Well folks I'm excited to see what is in store for us when the gates swing open this year!

Good report there Spect8tor. I seen today where they just got some new buildings arrive at the track. A new concession stand and a new restroom for the south end of the track. And a new ticket booth as well.

It will never matter someone will always mess with something pretty ridiculous that We finally get somebody in there ithat is doing the right things and making the improvements that need to be made but somebody decides they want to take out a huge portion of the fence that separates the parking lot and brookville Road that they just replaced ridiculous
