Convince me I'm wrong, whether through reason or sheer force of numbers, and I'll let him back. Otherwise, meh. My patience grows thin in my old age.

I have definitely not kept up with the puppet situation here, but I don't think that whether or not I know or like the person in question should factor into my feelings on this. I don't feel like posting an article is as bad as just saying how you feel about something, but there is certainly the intent of an action to consider, and even without intent, I guess respect is an important factor. I remember once when the forum was young, Foxx started a thread that made liberal use of the word 'nigger', a thread which I participated in.

Certainly, that particular topic could also have been inflammatory or considered racist, but I do not believe that was the intent, although it was certainly a bit immature and disresepectful. What I am saying is that depending on the reasons for banning in this case and not that one, I could definitely agree.

And to be fair, even if we disagree with an action by our administration, the set of rules that govern the forum is largely up to them and we are willing participants. I'm an asshole though, so who knows?

I wouldn't say anything except that you asked.

I guess I thought that talking about ideas was safe and there would only be a problem when it got personal.

I don't know who his puppets are so I don't really know what other incidents there have been.

Well i'm with Spoffin on all three counts.
Likewise, I don't know what the other puppets/ incidents were so it's hard to comment. I also haven't paid much attention to any of his other posts in the past because I already know they're going to bore or irritate me. I have no positive wish to see him back here, whoever he is, but that's not necessarily a reason to ban him since i've happily ignored him up until now. As Spoff says, if it had got personal with anyone i would feel very differently.
But I say all this without knowing what other offences he or his puppets have caused.

Skoff, while I can appreciate your concern. I didn't suspend him for disagreeing with me, I suspended him for being an annoying fuckwit who crossed what I consider to be a pretty big line.

I mean, as far as disagreement goes, I've allowed and do allow it. You've bashed feminism; the Spongebob thread still exists; I've had any number of disagreements with Spoff about any number of things; Galliam and I are complete political and religious opposites; Roach continually talks about drug abuse (which is a HUGE hot-button issue for me); etc., etc. etc.

However, the reason I felt this crossed a line is because it was neither thoughtful, nor humorous, nor ANYTHING else but inflammatory. I would like to remind you all that not all of our members are white, (although, interestingly, only white member have commented on this thread.) That article, when presented without irony or criticism, was essentially "hate porn": no redeeming social value, just lurid, explicit racism.

However, I feel you all do have fair points. I have been inconsistent, and I'll freely admit that I'm biased. I don't like him. Period. And it affects my judgment.

Aside from my personal feelings about this poster, I'm caught between my desire to stand for two very dearly held beliefs of mine: the importance of a free flow of ideas and discussion, and the importance of standing up against ignorance, bigotry, and hatred.

That being said, I suppose if I want my decisions to be consistent, I should stand up for my beliefs by eviscerating him (and allowing him to be eviscerated) in discussion, not by booting him from the forum. I'll try not to let my personal feelings about individual posters affect my decisions in the future; I don't want this to be a schoolyard clique where people have to worry about kissing admin butt.

The person annoys me, and the article NAUSEATED me; I'll unsuspend the account, but I do reserve the right to remove flagrant hate-speech.

Welcome back, Princie-poo. I'm not God or your mother; it's not my job to punish you.

Here's just hoping karma kicks you in the ass.

im somewhat surprised by the amount o disagreement i see. to me this wasnt an issue of free speech or free flow of ideas, it was a simple matter of trolling. that thread seems like an obvious attempt at trolling to me. wikipedia says about trolling that:

"In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts controversial, inflammatory, irrelevant or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion."

and the original post fits that to a tee. thats why i hadnt disagreed anyway

I've only just seen this thread and having once been accused of being an evil puppet-master, I wish to say it's fuck-all to do with me.

Thank you, your arse kissed too Luny.

I think your first reaction was understandable and right, you mad old cow. I think your subsequent agonising here was unnecessary but typical of a decent chapette.

Now and then (fuck cliques and kissy groups) it's good to show a little steel within that velvet glove. I haven't the faintest idea who the vile prince is and I may well like him in other persona's, and our little world gets shaken and stirred by the occasional nastiness and that isn't too bad a a thing, we to tend to get a touch over-cosy sometimes.

However, no-one wants this refuge for the lost, damned and plain bonkers to smell like Welcome to the New Death!. So, good girl, arse kissed again, and for chrissake, stop questioning yourself all the time.

If this user drifts into spewing this sort of stuff again, I will simply ignore it.

I do appreciate the content removal in any case. It was vile in a very disingenuous fashion.

Exactly. The topic could actually have been introduced in an entirely different way and we may even have been a bloody good discussion.
