Local Coin, any interest?

So, the Slave Lake area cachers made their own local coins. I'm wondering what interest there may be in GP to do the same? It's not cheap but if we get enough interest, maybe we can change that. Plus you can always sell them on eBay - lots and lots of geocoins on there.

Ive wanted to do someting like this for a long time. A Grande Prairie coin would be cool. Even if it ones of those mini geocoins it would be nice.

I would also like to see a Grande Prairie Coin. Could we get some information at the CAR III event? Prices and commitment needed? Also some artwork ideas would be good.

Let's get some ideas out there - what defining subjects remind you of Grande Prairie? Or what would you want to see on a coin?

We should also snare some interest from Peace River, Dawson Creek, etc.

I think Grande Prairie is just fine we would want to have local stuff on the coin and it would be harder with more community's.

I just saw a cool coin on the landsharkz website. Its an Inukshuk and it has a micro coin that snaps into it. Says you can personalize it. Might be a way to get a cheap start to an exclusive GP coin right away. Then we can work on a more exclusive coin for the near future.
I do think GP is synonomous with the Swan though too. If we had a coin shaped like the one east of the court house, maybe the side view...

I did a google search of swan and geocoin and only came up with one. I also came up with some very cool swan images that would look good on a coin or geotag. I will put them all in a word document and email it to you or try to attach them here somehow (I am not very familiar with forums).

The reason I suggested including other nearby cities is to help with the cost of the coins. I mean, how many are we each going to buy, right?

more than happy to help you through it.
I would be interested in anything you guys put together as I am a
selective Geocoin collector.If you need a hand with anything just let me

We also might want to pick a design that is "catchy" - for example, pirate-ish designs have sold better than say, a corn field design. Glow-in-the-dark is another attractiv attribute.

Something that includes all our surrounding areas is the pumpjack, but I am rather tired of seeing the pumpjack used to represent everything in Alberta. The south has the dinosaurs, etc. We don't necessarily need to depict something from our region, although it would be nice.

We should throw out ideas about what things remind you of our geographical area, and also of what ideas would simply be appealing in a coin YOU would buy. Even if the idea isn't "good," don't be afraid to get it out there anyway because it may jog somebody else's mind on an idea.
