Okay, the city should be big, but not huge. Maybe comparable in size to a Raccoon city type with a Central Business District surrounded by an Industrial Area and Residential Suburbs. There should also be the following:

* A large park area near or in the city centre.
* A Museum
* A University (with campus grounds, labs, etc included)
* A massive mall/shopping complex
* An amusement park
* A nearby mountain range (not huge, but large enough to take a one or two day hike in)
* It should be along the ocean in order to have a docks area (or maybe a lake?)
* A well developed subway and rail system
* Several schools (we can focus on one)
* A Public Library
* A high class nieghbourhood
* A slums area
* A large factory complex
* An Apartment building close to the city centre
*

What do you think? Are there any areas you think we should include that I don't have? Anything you want to add or change?

I had an Idea I want to run by you. What do you think of making a slight change. Instead of Gantz being in an apartment, the black ball can be located in a large house (maybe in the high class nieghbourhood?) It would make a change from the apartment and make us a little more distinctly original.

I like the design so far. happy.gif Lots of areas will mean plenty of possibilities for the missions, too. tongue.gif

I'm assuming we're gonna add specific stuff like a nightclub and a bar and all that in there too?

Hmmm, interesting idea about Gantz's location... If we put him in some big house, then it could also provide more spaces for all the Hunters (aside from new ones) themselves to interact with one another without having to be transported the specific room Gantz is hiding in (which will probably be inaccessible when there's no mission, just like with the appartment in the manga/anime). Sort of like an unofficial Hunter HQ. biggrin.gif

Yes indeed. Most of these will be compressed and made into sub-forums in order to not clutter the board.

That is almost exactly what I was thinking. biggrin.gif

This what I've worked out so far. I've named the city 'Century City'. (You can change that if you like) The reasoning is that this city is a fairly recently established city (and recently as the turn of the century - 2000) and although it has grown rapidly, both in development and population, it is still a fairly new place with more development going on. This will give us a reason to add things later.

The areas below are all located withing the City Centre or CBD. The other areas will be the Factory District, the Residential Area, The Docks, and the Mountains.

Let me know what you think so far.

Century City

-Central Business District
-- City Hall
  • City Hall is situated right in the geographic centre of the CBD. It houses the city's government offices and also a branch of the local police force.

-- Century City Museum
  • The Museum of natural history is situated close to City Hall. In fact it is just opposite and across th Central Park.

-- Central Park
  • Central Park is a large public, urban park located in the very heart of the city. It is approximately 3.5km square and is a favourite location for meetings, picnics, jogging and a simple walk in the park.

-- Centurion University
  • The Centurion University is the city's bastion of education with students attending from all over the country. Although a relatively young institution, it has already gained renown for both its endeavours into research and achievement in sport.

-- The Grand
  • The Grand is a massive shopping complex in the city centre. The mall contains over 400 stores, 20 movie theatres, many restaurants and bars and an entertainment section, skate park and science centre. It has twin towers which each house a 10 floor office complex and 45 floor residential apartments. The towers has become quite a recognisable landmark.

-- The Junction
  • The Junction is an amusement park located adjacent to the Grand. It has over 70 rides and attractions and an open air concert hall and various entertainment centres.

-- Century City Subway System
  • Century City has an extensive subway system that connects the entire city, including many residential areas, with a currently reported total of 150 stations.

-- Century City Public Library
  • The Century City Public Library (CCPL) is one of the leading public libraries in the state and is fast becoming one of the most significant research libraries. It is a privately managed, nonprofit corporation with a public mission, operating with both private and public financing.

Ooh, I'm liking this a lot so far. happy.gif And Century City seems like a pretty good name too (aswell as the reasons behind it), so we can go with that unless anything else comes to our minds.

I'm guessing the Central Business District, the Factory District, the Residential Area, the Docks and the Mountains will be categories and the things within forums and sub-forums? Then perhaps we could have one category above it for the Hunter HQ.

I think the only thing we gotta watch out for is that the site won't get too large yet - lots of empty forums never look good. Aside from that tiny bit, it's awesome. biggrin.gif

Too many obviously empty forums are not good, I agree.

I actually meant for 'Century City' to be a Category and then 'Central Business District', 'Factory District', 'Residential Area', 'Docks' and the 'Mountains' to be forums and the areas within each area could be subforums.

Hmmm, really? Interesting. It may just be a difference in site-making between the two of us, but I always have at least a few RP-specific categories. So it would look something like this:

CENTURY CITY
- Central Business District
- City Hall
- Century City Museum
- Central Park
- Centurion University
- The Grand
- The Junction
- Century City Subway System
- Century City Public Library
- Factory District
- ...
- Residential Area
- ...
- Docks
- ...
- Mountains
- ...

But wouldn't the site look a little 'compressed' like that? Though if we're ever going to expand beyond Century City, it would look fine.

It would be fine either way in the beginning, I think. We can always adjust things later. I think we'll only really know when we see it put into action. Factory District, Residential Area and Docks are almost ready. biggrin.gif

The Factory District, the Residential Area, The Docks, and the Mountains.

Let me know what you think so far.

Century City

-Industrial District
-- Orion Chemical Plant
  • The Orion Chemical Plant is run and owned by the Orion Corporation. Nobody is exactly sure what they do there and security is very tight. It is not uncommon to see protesters outside the plant demonstrating their disapproval of the industry in general.
-- Kusari Manufacturing
  • This large facility is the biggest manufacturing plant in the state. They produce a variety of consumer goods ranging from toys to radio's to TV's and microwaves.
-- Century Warehousing
  • These large warehouses store goods to be delivered to the various concerns throughout the city as well as goods manufactured here and to be exported elsewhere via rail and road.

-The Docks
-- The Harbour
  • Cruise ships, cargo container vessels and private yachts. All and sundry are tied up here with the Harbour Master's Office ten story building and tower prominently dominating the port.
-- Quay 4
  • Small civilian owned shopping complex for those who prefer to meet, shop and play with an ocean view. Features boat rides and harbour and helicopter tours.
-- The Grand Waterfront Hotel
  • A popular tourist accommodation the five star hotel is way out of the price range of the average citizen of Century City. Many famous movie stars and celebrities visit and stay here.

Sorry for taking so long with this. I hit a mental block last week (with all that is happening at work and in my life) but things are flowing nicely now. I'll finish up later, but I wanted to show you what I have so far.

unsure.gif I was thinking about adding an airport to the mix. What do you think?

The Airport and the Mountains.

Let me know what you think so far.

Century City

-The Airport
-- International Departure
  • Passengers here are traveling to and from international destinations. Security is tight and people are varied. From tourists to business people.
-- Domestic Departures
  • Local passenger and cargo flights all over the country depart and arrive from this terminal.
-- Airport Mall
  • The airport mall is duty-free and quite extensive. Restaurants jewelers, florists, clothing stores and even a mini supermarket.
-Arklay Mountains
-- Arklay Cable Station
  • This cable station ferries people to the top of the mountain. It runs from 8am to 8pm. There are also many hiking trails that lead deep into the mountains from here.
-- Arklay Mountain House
  • The other end of the cable line. The Mountain House has several facilities including a hotel and restaurant. From here one has a spectacular view of the city (when clouds do not intervene) and also access to hiking trails.
