GLITTER: POSTING GUIDELINES AND ENFORCEMENT
GLITTER: REVAMPED GUIDELINES AND RULES FOR POSTING
1. THINK TWICE, POST ONCE. This is the Golden Rule of Posting here at Glitter, and we’re pretty sure it encompasses every other rule we have, so let’s repeat it: Think twice, post once. Before you post, think of whether your post violates any of the guidelines below. After you’ve thought about it, think about it again just to make sure. Then, and only then, post.
2. BE RESPECTFUL OF ALL “REAL-LIFE” PEOPLE. This includes Kristin, her co-stars, the people who review her movies or theatrical work (be the review positive or negative), magazine editors, other people in the industry, and so on and so forth. Also, please remember that the other posters here are "real life" people with feelings just like you, and that you must be respectful of opinions that are not your own. So while debate and free speech is encouraged, use your common sense.
3. NO POSTING OF “INSIDER INFORMATION.” This includes any information about a production or upcoming appearance that hasn't been approved through the proper channels. We have this guideline for two reasons -- one is to prevent any misinformation/rumor from spreading, the other is to protect ourselves, the production/event, and YOU, from any legal liability resulting from privileged information being accidentally leaked.Nothing should be posted on Glitter without the inclusion of a reputable source (AKA: Variety, Hollywood reporter, reputable website, etc.) In short, we don't care if your uncle's brother's cousin was the camera man on THE WEST WING or BEWITCHED, or if you ran into Kristin at Starbucks and had a good chat about the show she’s doing, or an upcoming project -- if it hasn’t been cleared by a publicist, it shouldn’t be posted here on Glitter.
4. NO GOSSIP. Gossip is considered any discussion of Kristin's personal life (ANY aspect of her personal life) that she has not made public in interview format. We don't care how reliable your source is; we don’t care if you saw it with your own eyes, we don’t care if she told you on the phone/email/set/stage door/grocery store/shopping mall. Her personal business is not our personal business, and it doesn't belong here.
5. NO SPAMMING THE BOARD. Every post you make should contribute something to the conversation. Don’t post just to see yourself post, and if you are posting in response to a question, don’t just say “Yes” or “me too!” or “I agree” – say WHY, as well. That way, the conversation can continue. Speaking of conversation – stay on topic in your threads, and do not chit chat with other members. We want you to get to know each other and have fun, but in the appropriate threads. Three pages of conversation in a thread about Kristin’s next album just irritates the members who come on and think there might be new info, only to discover that the only new info is that so-and-so #1 thinks the new album is the best thing since sliced bread (which is fine), and so-and-so #2 thinks bread is great (not so fine), and so-and-so #3 really likes French baguettes from this bakery down the street (now we’re spamming), and so-and-so #1 knows someone who used to work there, and all of a sudden we have three pages on the personal history of French baking in a thread about a live album.
6. NO ARGUING ON THE FORUM. There is absolutely no reason why anyone should be arguing on the Glitter forum. You can RESPECTFULLY disagree with each other, and in fact we encourage you to, but there is no excuse for arguing. If you have an issue with another member, contact one of your moderators and let us help you mediate the issue. We are here to help you guys, and we want any disagreements on the forum sorted out in the most peaceful way possible. A fair warning from the GStaff: if you DO argue on the forum, we will warn you into next Tuesday (meaning the usual 10% warning increase is much more likely to be a 20-30% increase).
7. THINGS TO REMEMBER WHEN YOU POST
a. READ BEFORE YOU POST. Before you post your reply, please read through the entire thread to make sure someone hasn’t already posted the same link/photo/tidbit, etc.
b. READ BEFORE YOU START. Before you start a topic, make sure there isn’t already one for the subject you are posting about! This has been a HUGE problem in the past, and it needs to stop. We don’t care whether you joined six months ago or six minutes ago, go back and scan the thread titles. It doesn’t take long to look through several pages of thread titles (and remember, the board default is to only show threads from the last 30 days, so you will have to adjust the drop-down option to see the older threads), and it saves the board from being overrun with five different threads asking about Kristin’s favorite ice cream.
c. DO NOT USE NETSPEAK. Or as we here on the Glitter Staff like to say: “Use your words.” The English language is a beautiful, if complicated, thing. We want to see you using it in all its glory. What we don’t want to see is internet shorthand on the forum. Remember, Glitter members are all different ages, including many of us who remember life before the internet! To you, “Gr8, c u l8r” may be a quick and easy way to communicate, to many other members, its just annoying, and to those members for whom English is not their first language, it is downright confusing. Full words, always, please.
d. DON’T MESS WITH YOUR FONT. Please don’t change the color, size, or font of your posts. It makes the forum harder to read. We do allow people to put their name in their signature in a different size/font/color, but it should be ONLY your name, and the font size should not exceed size 5.
8. THINGS TO PROTECT YOU AND US
a. DO NOT POST YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION. Remember, there are more than 1700 people registered on Glitter, and when you post your address/phone number/full name/mother’s maiden name on the forum, you make that information available to all 1700 people.
b. DO NOT POST PICTURES OF YOURSELF (OR ANYONE ELSE YOU KNOW) IN ANYTHING REVEALING. NO bikinis, NO leotards, NO teeny tiny tops or shorts, NO NUDITY AT ALL WHATSOEVER. Post them on your Facebook, post them on your MySpace, but DO NOT POST THEM ON GLITTER. We’re going to be blunt: As stated before, there are 1700 people on the forum, and we have no way of knowing whether “iheartkdc72468” is actually a 15 year old girl from Ohio, or a 51 year old man from Washington who just likes to LOOK AT 15 year old girls from Ohio. Aside from wanting to protect you guys, this is a huge liability issue for us, and believe us when we say that if anything were to happen to any of you, and it could be traced back to Glitter, there would no longer BE a Glitter. We’d be shut down faster than you can blink.
c. DO NOT POST ANYTHING THAT VIOLATES COPYRIGHT. No bootlegs, no YouTube links to Kristin’s last appearance on The View, no reposting the entire text of an article, no advertising illegal recordings of Kristin’s concerts (neither audio NOR video!), no anything that violates copyright in any way. This is to protect us – many a good fansite has been shut down for violating copyright, or allowing discussion of things that violate copyright. We don’t want that to happen here. A note on YouTube: you CAN post links to things that don’t violate copyright – you and your friends doing cartwheels, someone teaching knitting lessons on YouTube (they’re there!), that puppy that can whistle – those are fine. But nothing that is copyrighted (a performance, tv show, movie, etc.).
9. BANNERS AND AVATARS:
a. Banners should total no larger than 400 pixels wide and 100 pixels tall. Want four 100x100 icons to be your banner? Great! Want five? Not so great. Want your banner to be 120x380? 410x106? 200x200? Too bad. 400px wide, no wider; 100px tall, no taller. If your banner does not comply with our size guidelines, we will simply delete it. If you notice your banner has suddenly gone missing, check its size. Chances are, it was either too wide or too tall, and we deleted it. Don’t repost it, because we will just delete it again.
b. Avatars should be no larger than 100x100 pixels. We’re fairly certain the forum won’t let you make them bigger than that even if you want to, but just a reminder if you’re making your own: 100x100 or smaller.
c. For the sake of any members still on dial-up connections, we are once again asking you not to use animated avatars. Graphics that move take a lot longer to load, which is a pain for anyone who is on a slow connection. No moving avatars, and no moving icons in your banners please.
d. No nudity in your banners/avatars. We all know that Kristin has on occasion posed nude or nearly so in print, but we also have many people who check the forums from work or school computers, and we don’t want them to get in trouble because there is a naked Kristin Chenoweth on their computer screen when someone walks by. As such, we have to ask you not to make banners using the images from the Allure, FHM, etc. photo shoots unless they are from the shoulders up!
e. Always credit the artist behind your avatars/banners! If you did not create your avatar or banner, make sure you add a line to your signature crediting the person who did. A lot of work goes into those little graphics, and the people who create them deserve credit for their talent.
A NOTE ABOUT GUIDELINE ENFORCEMENT:
We are changing the ways we enforce the rules. The new deal is this (and listen up, because we’re only going to say it once, and everyone will be expected to follow). All our mods will be on the look-out for any posts or threads that violate our guidelines. Any such posts/threads may be deleted without warning. Any member who violates the posting guidelines will be warned. Once a member’s warning level reaches 30%, they will be automatically put on moderated posting. Since most of you have never had your posts moderated, let us explain what that means: When you post a message on the forum, it will not show up on the forum immediately. Instead, it is sent to a “post queue” in the Moderator Control Panel, where it will wait until a moderator approves it. MEANING: Your posts will not go through until a moderator gets online, finishes reading the new posts on the forum, posts in whatever threads they want to post in, etc. THEN, they will check the queue for posts that need to be moderated. Needless to say, it takes a while for your posts to be approved and finally show up on the forum. Further, posts from the approval queue don’t appear at the bottom of the thread; they appear exactly where they would have had your post not been moderated. If six unmoderated people posted after you, then there will be six old messages after yours, and chances are, most members won’t end up reading your post. Our advice to you is to not end up on moderated posting.
