So, I suppose I can update this now I have internet and am not pushed for time. I doubt it'll be as good as you crazy freshers, so I'm going to use a lot of hyperbole. So with that in mind, so far I've DJ'd for an NME recognised broadcaster at a professional nightclub, fought a raging fire, and had over 400 pints. :D
The DJing. Well, to start with SIN Radio got a mention in this weeks NME. We had a radio meet-up at the Union Bar last night, and everyones pretty impressed. They neglected the mention the Tom and Dan Show, cornerstone of the Thursday evening line-up though. The DJing was at a club called Diva, for the Solent Sports Fair. Me and Dan were asked to play 'mellow music'. Sorry, that should read 'Me and Dan were asked after we'd brought all our music to the venue and started playing it, to play mellow music'. There was a bossy woman who kept complaining we weren't being mellow. She had a point. Dan played Kanye West - Stronger, and the floor was vibrating. But no harm done. Only to SIN Radio, and their lifetime ban from playing there again, I expect.
I also fought a raging fire. Basically (very basic) Jamie set the kitchen on fire and it's entirely his fault. He was grilling sausages, had left them alone for about 1 minute and next thing we know the oven is on fire (the oven, not the sausages). I heroicly dived in to blow the fire out ran to get some water, rememebered it was an electric oven, and decided that it would probably make things worse. Luckily the fire was contained within the oven and hadn't set fire to anything else so it went out a minute or so after we'd turned the grill off. We reckon something spat up and landed on the grill setting it alight. Since then we've cleaned the oven vigourously, but haven't used the grill since (fried everything instead). We also moved the smoke alarm closer to the kitchen, but that caused it to go off whenever we opened the over door, so we have to take it down whilst we're cooking, which slightly defeats the point. The rest of the house is fine...ish. In our bathroom we've got a very loud extractor fan - last week the case fell off the front and caused a hell of a crash. We've had to get someone round to look at our TV ariel, which is broken and means we only get BBC2, ITV, CH4 and a very grainy BBC1 and CH5. Hopefully being sorted. And today we got our internet activated. But it's basically a toss up between whether we burn the house down...or it just falls down at its own accord.
I've also had over 400 pints........to serve to the customers of Southampton Football Club. Started my job there, and it's good fun. My first match was a Wednesday night game vs Colchester, where my supervisor greatly overestimated how much was going to get drunk. We threw away 113 pints! Contrast that to the following Saturday, where we ran out of lager 3 minutes into half time. It's all very relaxed and we have a product each week which we have to try the sell the most of out of all of the bar units. Once it was Yorkies, the other time it was crispts. This weekend they play West Brom which should be quite a big crowd.
I feel I should mention my ridiculous timetable. I don't get a day off. On Mondays I'm in until 7pm. On Wednesdays I don't start until 6pm, and finish at 8pm. My radio show is going to be slightly compromised by being in 3-4 on a Thursday (our show is 4-6, on the other side of the park). I can assure you it's very bizzare having a whole day off, and then going into uni in the evening. It's like a night school. It also means weird meal times...in fact last night we went straight from the lecture to the Union and I didn't eat at all. My earliest start is one 10am though, so that's ok.
I'll also mention Will, since he's unlikely to come on here and do it himself. We met up on Tuesday night. He's enjoying V-Neck university and its proximity to the M27 motorway. He's basically become accustomed to a very sleazy club which apparantly "has water and glass all over the floor". I should mention it took him about 40 minutes to make the 20 minute journey from his halls to here because he went completely the wrong way (benefit of doubt: It was dark). We got back in about 1:00 so I let him sleep round, but will force him to return the favour somewhen...and I get his "single yet oversized" bed, he gets the floor!
