I've just started playing through the plug, but I've noticed that the sounds from EV Nova's hyperspace jumps seem to be retained. I thought it might be a bit more Firefly-like if all the ships were set to be slow-jumping, thus using the sound file for warp-ups used by the IDA frigate in EVN - a more grinding, older sound which seems to suggest a rickety old engine on the verge of falling apart.

Also, the *BANG* sound for the actual jump could be deleted or changed to something (such as a deceleration sound) that would imply a more gradual journey as opposed to an instantaneous transition.

I would test this latter part out for myself, but for some reason EVNEW crashes every time I try to open the first Firefly Sounds file.

Hmm, MissionComputer has trouble with the .rez version of the sound files too....odd. Seems to not like any of the Windows rez files with a snd or DITL resource, at the least.

Anything that I haven't come up with a good replacement for in the stock Nova scenario still remains. Hyperspace sounds would be a good thing to replace, but I'm not sure what to replace them with.

I don't think there's a difference in sound for different jump speeds. It just uses a different sound depending on if you're set for 2x mode or not (caps lock). I could replace either or both of those sounds if I had something better.

No, there's definitely a different sound for slow-jumping ships. If its the same sound played at lower speed, the difference is night and day. I tried it out on a Starfairy and thought it a vast improvement. Your own mileage may vary, of course, and if you're eventually going to be replacing the sounds anyway it doesn't really matter.

One other thing I was curious about - I've noticed the lack of sounds in the space battles, and I think its a great, realistic touch. However, were you planning to have sounds for weapon impacts, when bullets and the like actually strike your ship? You'd hear that part, after all.

To be honest I haven't put a whole lot of thought into that angle yet. Mostly I went for silent weapons simply because it was easier than trying to find sounds for them.

If you know a good place to get sounds or someone who's good at generating them, let me know.

And I didn't mean the hyperspace sound was played at a different speed---I meant that there are two different sounds. snd 128 is called "Warp up", and snd 129 is called "Warp up.x2". It's possible that for slow-jumping ships, 128 is used even if you're on x2 mode.

Even if you can't get into the Firefly Sounds 1 file for whatever reason, you can get those resources out of the Nova files.

It seems that RezConv which I've been using the make the Windows releases may have some kind of problem with snd resources and DITLs, maybe more. In the future I'll use MissionComputer's "Save as Windows" option to generate the Windows versions of the files instead.
