Hey all for the past few years I've felt that there is a need for a new political party in NI So I jotted down some principals. I know that not all the principal will be universally liked here.
Northern Ireland Christian Democrats is a group of like-minded individuals, with a view to forming a political party in Northern Ireland. We support morally conservative policies on one hand yet who are more liberal on economic and social matters. We believe in the concept of social justice both locally and globally. We support the right to life and dignity from conception to natural death. We support responsible stewardship for God's creation. We recognise the importance of the Christian Faith in our society. We support the view that traditional family and marriage traditional and between a man and a woman is beneficial to the individual society. We believe it is important for Christians to be in leadership roles in the community and politics. We wish to provide a unifying political voice to Christians which is not shackled to the "tribal" politics of Northern Ireland, believing God is bigger than unionist or nationalist and seeks unity rather than division. We assert that government should be run as efficiently as possible and that waste should be kept to a minimum. |

Well you have the Christian People's Alliance that these policies are based on. To be honest I don't see the NICD taking of because of finances and my own personal loyalty to the DUP locally I couldn't run against some of the people who have helped me immensely over the past few years. But I guess this is my political statement and that's good enough I suppose. |

lol BTW I started a group on face book called the Northern Ireland Movement for Christian Democracy with the same principals but as a pressure group for members of all parties rather than a party in it's self |

I understand that "conservative" and "liberal" don't exactly mean the same things in Europe as they do in the US. Care to explain what you mean by morally conservative policies & liberal economic and social matters? Thanks! |

Sure. With the regard to moral conservatism that is with regard to morality it genially would be opposed to abortion, homosexuality, pre marital sex and the promotion of marriage and the traditional family and other such issues yet in the economic sense we would put more money into the health service and social housing and other areas of economic need and would basicly would work towards the eradication of poverty. to explain it here is a scenario, Northern Ireland has the highest portion of teenage pregnancy in Europe many of these girls aren't given the support they necessary so they go to Scotland (abortion is still illegal in Northern Ireland except in exceptional circumstances) to have an abortion, I believe that girls who find them selves in such a situation should be given the support they need weather that be financial, housing or otherwise to enable them to raise the child or give him or her up for adoption rather than abortion, however we would also works to reduce teenage pregnancy in an abstinence based education system. This I believe is a situation where moral conservatism and economic liberalism could go hand in hand. I don't see it so much as complete liberalism however as I would also make efficiency cuts to cut the waist of public funding, I see it more as conservatism with a social conscience |
