HBP Family Group: Admin Posts: 26,912 Member No.: 4 Joined: 5-July 08	My laptop that is .... it starts ok and sometimes worls without problems but all too often the screen is going blank ... totally black ... if I keep typing the words do appear when the screen clears again so the lap top itself is still working Anyone any idea what is wrong and if it can be fixed without being too expensive ?????? <flag> <flag>

I am no expert on computers, but I have had my share of problems with them. There are a few things that I know of that could be causing your trouble. You could have a virus. Do you have up to date virus protection? If not, get some and run a scan. If you have a program to help with viruses and haven't manually done a scan lately, do one now. Try going into your system tools and remove all the old cookies. A lot of viruses get into your computer that way.

You could be experiencing a computer crash because it might be overloaded. Do you have a lot of programs on your computer, games and mp3 files? You might need to eliminate some of the things from the hard drive?

You may be dealing with a bad hard drive. If it is an old computer, that is a real posibility, and if that is the problem, eventually the computer will stop working for good. You can get the hard drive replaced, but it is not that cheap. Still, it is less expensive than buying a whole new lap top.

If your primary purpose in using a computer is surfing the web, you can get a pretty inexpensive notebook from Wal-Mart that will serve that purpose, and that is what I use on the road, but it doesn't have a place to download anything on a disk. My opinion is that your computer can be repared much cheaper than going out and buying a new one, but if my first two suggestions fail, you will need to take it to an expert for help. Good luck.
