Sir,

by browsing the web I discovered your website. As you will recognize by the
email address I forward this email on the GER Army net. I work at the G4
shop of the GER Army Area Command = WBK = Wehrbereichskommando
"Süddeutschland" in the BAYERN Kaserne at Munich. The Bayern Kaserne was
once known as Henry Bks.
I was aware of the fact that the former Henry Bks are now the Bayern
Kaserne. I was stationed at Bayern Kaserne for the first time from 1997 to
2001 and I returned to Munich for my last tour in Feb 2006. I will retire
this year serving my country for 37 years.

Your website is great and the pictures posted provides chances of
comparison how Henry Bks had been 40 years ago and it looks now.
The situation has changed compared with the late 60ties. The old main gate
was closed in early 1980, when a Mech Inf BN and FA BN was stationed at
Bayern Kaserne. At the adjacent western area apartment buildinngs were
erected in the 60ties and the people complained about the "permanent noise"
of the tracked vehicles. The ADA Regt stationed at Bayern prior from 1969
to 1979 was moved to Fürst Wrede Kaserne, known to you as Will Bks, in late
1970. The main gate is now locate at the North West at the Heidemannstr.

In 1992 the Mech Inf BN and the FA BN were disbanded and an ENG BN moved
in. It was disbanded in 1994. In 1994 the HQ of 1st GER MTN DIV (1.
Gebirgsdivision) was moved from Garmisch to Munich, Bayern Kaserne. 3 Co of
the so called "Command Support Regiment" of the 1st GER MTN DIV (1.
Gebirgsdivision) were billeted in Bayern Kaserne too.

In 2001 the 1st GER MTN DIV and the Command Support Regiment were
disbanded and the HQ was reformed as the HQ of the Area Command
"Süddeutschland".

I have sad news for you!
The HQ of the Area Command will be moved NLT summer of 2011 to the former
Will Bks and Bayern Kaserne will be shut down. The Munich community has
plans to tier down all buildings and utilizing the ground for new buildings
for apartments and houses. BMW has a facility to the East of Bayern Kaserne
and is eager in acquiring eastern parts of Bayern Kaserne.

It's a shame that in three years Henry Bks/Bayern Kaserne won't be no more.

I had the impression that you may be interested of the "story" of Bayern
Kaserne and it's projected fate!
