Appearance: Rowan Snow could be handsome- if he tried, or if someone forced him to take care of himself. His skin is a color that girls would make girls envious. It looks like a natural tan, caramelly, except that it is his skin tone and not some tan. His messy dark brown hair desperately needs a haircut, but is otherwise unremarkable. His nose is thin and slightly long, his forehead is rectangular, and his mossy green-hazel eyes often seem to be looking somewhere else. At 6'1", he's of a respectable height. Rowan always seems to look a bit ridiculous and out of place. As a Muggleborn, he never got quite used to robes, and chooses not to wear them. He should be able to wear matching clothes and such, but because of his absentmindedness the buttons on his shirt might not match up, his socks not matching, or a tie on backwards.
Personality: Rowan fits the mold of an absent-minded, slightly crazed professor. He's untidy (yet not outright messy), forgetful, and smart without being brilliant. He learns from hands-on activities and enjoys teaching in such a way, rarely assigning written homework, but his exams are just as difficult as any other topic. Professor Snow is sympathetic, almost a bit too much. He grades fairly, yet tears might prompt him to feel bad, which might lead to him giving a few extra points back. He used to be terribly shy and it shows when he is among his peers. Strangely, in front of his students or in trying situations, Rowan becomes a confident, self-assured individual. He is still not a very strong leader, and never will be one, yet he is no longer completely the follower or loner that he used to be.
Outside the classroom, Rowan prefers to spend his time on the grounds, venturing into the Forbidden Forest, or in the Owlery. He loves to be outdoors. This professor also enjoys practicing archery or beating things with sticks- after all, if you are the Care of Magical Creatures professor and venture into the forest or other suspect places, you need more of a defense than a wand and magic. He's quite involved in both sides of the world, Muggle and wizard, and receives both the Daily Prophet and the Times (London times).
Family: He has a younger brother who is married and lives a perfectly non-magical life like his parents. However, all three are terribly supportive of Rowan, and are proud to have a wizard in the family. After all, he can bring very interesting and fun presents from the wizarding world!
History: As a boy, Rowan was exceptionally different. He was a nervous, kind boy who loved to help others, but was very afraid of simple things. Cats with claws scared him, as did rats with fangs, owls with talons, shadows of the dark, heights, swimming, paper...everything was a potential threat. He lived a non-magical life with strange incidents until he was eleven. The letter from Hogwarts became an exciting event in his tight-knit family, who had never believed in magic but were open to what might shape their son's life.
So Rowan went to Hogwarts, and he was just as scared and timid. He was sorted into Hufflepuff, and was never an exceptionally good or bad student. Rowan was average and made few friends, no enemies, and quietly enjoyed Hogwarts and his classes.
It was only after he left Hogwarts with not-so-good grades that something changed. Always a loner, Rowan had never had many friends, engagements, or anything else to tie him down. He decided he would o traveling across Europe for no particular reason, spending time in different wizarding communities. He probably would have become some sort of wizard hobo for the rest of his life had he not run into the troll.
For some odd reason there was a troll terrorizing a small Muggle village, and although a coward Rowan felt he had to do something. So he engaged the troll- and somehow, he won. It was this victory and run in that inspired Rowan to learn about magical creatures, and it just may have planted a measure of courage in him too. The young man continued to travel and learn from his experiences about different magical creatures, helping some and fending off others, his quite strength always growing. When he was 30, Rowan Snow received another letter from Hogwarts inquiring whether he would want a post as a professor- naturally, he accepted.
Habits: To make every creature they handle sound completely dangerous and exciting, staring off into space
Goals: Become Head of House for Hufflepuff; be a good role model
Likes: Scaring his students, working with animals of any sort, teaching
Dislikes: The letter U for unknown reasons, people who can't give respect to animals, people who steal HIS scare for his students
